Shalimar Indian Restaurant reviews
37 Best Indian food I have ever had
Beautifully family run restaurant.
Food was delicious and fast, and service was amazing
Highly recommend
Have been going to Shalimar for 15 years and it has always been superb, delicious food and fantastic service. So yum!
The name Shalimar is such a beautiful name, belonging to a love story! It is a shame that the cuisine doesn't reflect this, the food is below average, and very bland, the daal was not tarka daal, there was no masala used, and the bbq platter wasn't fresh, and the food is not flavorful! The naan was very dry and also tasted stale, the only item we enjoyed was the sparkling water. I do suggest this restaurant lower their prices also, as the cost is not worth the food or the dining experience. I would like to also say they should hire someone who knows how to prepare desi-style food, as this is not it! If you wish to experience bad tasteless food, overly priced; that isn't even close to good Indian (desi) cuisine, then this would be the place to try. Honestly save your money and prepare at home.
Without a doubt I'll be returning here in the near future. Top-notch Indian food, very attentive and helpful staff with a friendly and conversational approach that seems to be lost these days in the restaurant industry.
The waiters knew the food and menu inside out and were obviously very knowledgeable about their dishes. Also the recommendation they offered to me after listening about what sort of thing I go for was spot-on.
You cannot go wrong with this place. Melbourne's longest-running curry house - and you can see why.
Lucky enough to stumble upon Shalimar while walking by, my partner and I had a fantastic experience. The vegetarian banquet was great value for money and incredibly fresh and delicious. Definitely exceeded our expectations and will be going back! The lentil Dahl is a must-have.
A beautiful family owned restaurant with a wonderful ambiance. Such friendly hosts who showed my friends and I their history of how they came to own it in 1981.oh and the butter chicken was amazing!
I will definitely be going back, so I would absolutely recommend it
The restaurant had a pleasant ambience. The menu offers a large selection of choices, all of which are incredibly fresh/authentic and just delicious. The staff were so lovely, very attentive. Will definitely be visiting again & recommending to others.
Couple of starters were good but curries, dahl, rice, etc was below average. Popodums were burned. Disappointed
a
Delicious food, great service and prices.
Thoroughly enjoyed their banquet and the selection range and tastes. Well.looked after as we were a large group of 18 and still kept our water glasses and wine topped up and food coming at the right times and not rushed or not too slow. Highly recommend it
We visited this family run restaurant in Brighton this week. The food was delicious. Highly recommend to visit.
It is waste of money there. I order paneer tikka masala curry and they gave me dry paneer tikka as like of appetizer. And after that i told him i order curry she took back and she add some gravy in that and gave me. Thats makes fools.
I’ve been coming to this amazing establishment for almost 5 years & I’m impressed every time. The staff are super friendly & always go above and beyond. All the dishes I’ve had are full of flavour & so delicious. Very happy to know they grow their own curry leaves & fresh chilies & various other herbs that they use in their dishes. Burra Kebab, Tandoori Cauliflower & Murgh Mumtaz are a must. Looking forward to my next dinner here. Highly recommend.
My partner and I had dinner. I chose the goat curry in medium and my partner had lamb korma in mild. Originally the first indian restaurant in Melbourne. Food is fresh and cooked with love. We really loved the experience of being able to interact with the chef and it created a fun atmosphere. This restaurant is a gem. Great for parties. The prices are very reasonable. Delighted.
An absolutely fabulous restaurant that always goes the extra mile. Gagan and his family are generous and they know how to cook exceptionally well. Would recommend wholeheartedly. Ps.their roti are ace and they actually make their curries spicy, if you ask for Indian style!
Second time this year and the food was excellent. We enjoy hot food and the 3 main dishes, lamb, chicken & beef were all very much enjoyed. Would definitely recommend.
Wasted money. Not worth of even being called "INDIAN FOOD" for those who know what Indian food is. Ordered murgh tikka masala which came as mix vegetable curry with chicken pieces in it, saw first time where Mango lassi came with ice cubes in it for kid. 1 samosa is for $5 comes in a plate of 2 for $10 with full skin on potato i kept peeling it to eat as not to let it go waste. Never ever will visit again. Wish could give 0 stars. Not recommended at all.
I have been to this restaurant many times and will continue to be a regular customer. Fast and friendly service. Great tasting food. Delicious actually. And very good value for money.
This has been our local Indian for years. The food is always great and well priced and the service is great. Reading some of the reviews, ok the food isn't 5 star fine dining, but you're not paying for 5 star fine dining. Would definitely recommend.
Nice aesthetics, shambolic though courteous staff, but sad food and always empty. How it endures is a mystery.
Really tasty Indian, in a lovely old school venue. Parents took us here and told us not much has changed in 30 years.
