Royal Oak Hotel reviews
31Another absolute gem of a pub in Fitzroy North. We popped in yesterday after checking out the Sporting Club, and man these pubs stand up, elevated menus, thoughtful craft taps and awesome decor, always a vibe. To eat. I tried the kangaroo samosas, and the best side of chips I think I’ve had in the city
Great corner pub!
Stopped for an impromptu dinner with some friends and enjoyed a bowl of chips, chicken schnitzel, fish and chips and some lamb chops.
The fish and chips had a good ratio of batter to fish and the lamb was delicious - I just wished there was more of it!
June2023. Really enjoyable meal, very busy on a Sunday. A little loud as music competed with conversation. Will experience again perhaps on a weeknight to compare. Lovely decor and cosy setting, with the fireplace. Great local pub.
Dec2023. Back for a 2nd Sunday meal, some months later and really pleased to see better value in the increased size of meals. Food was lovely, (Pork Katsu) cocktails and wine too. Noise level, much better. Well done Royal Oak. Thank you for listening
OMG there is this adorable bartender from England there! He's 5 foot f all and just the cutest
The service is extremely slow and having been there twice, it’s taken more than one hour for the food to arrive.
Really enjoyable meal, very busy on a Sunday. A little loud as music competed with conversation. Will experience again perhaps on a weeknight to compare. Lovely decor and cosy setting, with the fireplace. Great local pub.
A group of four went for dinner, the service was good and 3 of the meals were very nice, but…. The fourth was foul - it was “supposed” to be a Porterhouse steak but looked more like a large tumour removed during a medical program, it was disgusting. The explanation was that it must have been the end of the cut…. Bit like saying the last pice of fish was the head but please enjoy. Will never return and will also advise others of this shocking experience.
Wonderful venue for a very special wedding dinner. Food was excellent, staff amazing. Nothing was too much trouble.
Great spot for a long lunch on a weekend. Enjoyed the delicious food and relaxed cozy atmosphere.
Fantastic food and great service; the staff catered very well to a large group and the food was perfectly executed.
Walking into the Royal Oak is like walking into the past with its retro colour scheme and carpeted floors. It’s great!
Steak was cooked perfectly, the gnocchi was like eating soft, fluffy clouds. Staff are happy and friendly. Great local pub.
Visited recently for the first time prior to renovations. Nice looking fitout. However, front bar was practically an echo chamber - far too noisy. Maybe some acoustic paneling may help? Food OK, staff a little hipstery. Overall, would not rush back.feels like many a renovated pub does nowadays, open and lacking cosiness.
Food is absolutely delicious, great menu and fabulous wine. Staff are very professional and really friendly. This place is a must visit.
It was recommended by a friend, and exceeded expectations, Mains were great, bread & butter pudding the best I’ve ever had. Staff were knowledgeable, friendly and efficient. We’ll be back.
Great Wine list, fabulous food very fresh and well prepared with great but simple flavours. Not overdone and not your usual pub food.
The decor is so stylish and there’s a great vibe here, toilets are in need of a refurb and outside could do with some greenery.
Highly recommend the duck. Enjoy
My partner and I went tonight (09/01/23) to have a quiet bday dinner.
Food - clean & vibrant & intelligent
Ambience - intimate, yet not cluttered
Music - good volume, non-invasive
But the service… This is why we will be coming back.
A very grateful shout out to Tamara & Arcadia and all the beautiful team for their dedication, patience and accomodation. Nothing was too much for them and all the other guests in the dining hall seemed very relaxed and content. Thank you so much.
For a charming Monday night dinner or date night, family groups or work catch ups, we strongly recommend the Royal Oak.
In the spirit of Karenism, “no bread? ”?
Love and kisses to all.
(Pictured: Kingfish Sashimi. And a very handsome snack.)
The fish and chips was sub par, batter tasted like European donut. Atmosphere is OK. Bartenders very hipster. For the price there are much better places for food. Bar is open but the venue is chill. Age range is mostly locals 25-40
Great meal and great service (the girls were fantastic). It’s been a very long time since I’ve been here, but the spruce up has definitely make it a much inviting place and sitting outside on a beautiful melbourne day is all the sweeter …
While a piece of me misses the "old" Royal Oak with the barflys and the TAB machines this is a pretty good makeover.
Tasteful renovations breathe life to the space and the refined but fun food + beverage options = fun times!
Thanks for the great experience. Dinner tonight was spot on. Attention to detail, amazing service and a on point drinks and food menu. Steak tartare a must. Will definitely be back to try out the rest of the menu.
