Robert Gordon Pottery and Kitchen reviews
42Great food, paint your own was so much fun. Prices all round are very reasonable. Staff were LOVELY!
I purchased 3 wall lamps which I love. 2 were half price as they were "seconds" but still beautiful. The staff were very lovely & helpful with my decision process! Highly recommend the cafe too!
Did the paint your own pottery 1hr workshop class. It’s affordable however I feel like they are commercialising this opportunity and there are better workshop experience elsewhere:
- it’s only a one hour workshop. You need more time to actually enjoy the experience but once time is up there is a hard timing for you to leave.
- you only get 6 colors to choose from
- they don’t teach you how to mix colors, how to pain, what textures can be achieved in detail (at all)
- you literally walk in, choose your pieces, get your own brushes and paint away yourself
Other than that, the place has a good vibe and their own pieces are really pretty. Food was also decent at the cafe.
It is a bit far away from the city, but worth the visit once a while. The shop is huge and well arranged with everything priced lower than shopping them elsewhere. The cafe is lovely too, food and drinks are in good quality and delivered good taste.
Staffs are very friendly as well.
Food and customer service was a huge let down. Waited half an hour just to be served, no water offered after having asked for water, they still did not bring any out! Waited over an hour for meals which didn't come out all at once. We had multiple servers come up to us to ask us what we had ordered over and over, and to add to that no cutlery was given, upon requesting cutlery not enough was given for our table. Usually great service and food here but today a huge let down, very unorganized and zero communication between staff!
The pottery selection is quite good. Everything seems hand made as there is slight variation in each item. We did a painting session here which was fun. We also ate here, food was decent but the service is a bit slow when busy. There's a small section for kids to play, but it doesn't have much. Nevertheless kids seemed to be able to entertain themselves.
Coffee, venue, food and dishes are awesome. Staff are amazing. Cool little area for kids is under construction so that’s exciting for me as a small young family.
Price… well.on par with most classy cafe’s.
I did see a egg cup that cost $9
Give it a go I say
The pottery pieces here are to die for!
Each shape is beautiful and organic, makes you want to buy every single piece!
Lots of great and reasonably priced pieces (outlet prices), with a section for 'seconds and samples', which are ALMOST perfect, for a lot cheaper (made in Australia - as some pieces made overseas).
We did the painting workshop and it was very affordable. My piece was around $30 including painting and firing. They didn't rush us out when our time limit finished but 1 hour really isn't long enough. Also wish they had more glaze colour variety!
Boxing day sale prices were excellent however would probably not make purchases otherwise. I liked the selection of seconds, but most of the store was general stock - not as charming as independant potters
Great place to find Pottery items. Friendly staff. Nancy Cafe, good food selection & great coffee.
Bought 6 sets (4 in each) of the entree bowls (online). Each of the 6 came in crude brown little cardboard boxes. Was very disappointed with the packing after reading one of the reviews on the website that said products were beautifully packed. This was meant to be given as Christmas gifts. However, the bowls were good and worth the buy. Really love them.
Was very fortunate to find the Christmas Sale last month saving hundreds of $. Thank you! Purchased quite a few items as gifts for our daughters engagement, and I'm very pleased. Can't go wrong with RG products. They're beautifully crafted and designed to the highest standard of craftsmanship applied, sturdy and lasting. Elegant products perfect for fine dining & entertainment. RG Pottery thank you for the added care applied ensuring save delivery of our purchases. 10/10!
Food was good. Staff were friendly. Really enjoyed doing the paint your own pottery class. I think it's expensive though for a factory outlet.
WOW! Absolutely incredible experience!
The factory was much larger than I initially thought it was going to be, and there’s an entirely seperate space dedicated to painting your own crockery! My partner and I spent 2 hours here today as part of our anniversary celebration!
The items you can paint range from mugs, bowls, plates, vases and platters–of all different sizes. Most start at $20 upwards, which I believe to be reasonable as each item is hand made (presumably using the ceramic wheels they have in the studio) and you can use as little / as much glaze as you like. And there are virtually no limitations to what you paint and how much you spend.
The amount of space in between each table was great, made us feel super comfortable with COVID. Atmosphere was brilliant, natural bright lighting, groovy tunes, incredibly welcoming staff.
Also, the staff weren’t overbearing and watching over your shoulder which was great! Must wash the materials you used, but it took us 3 minutes max as the glaze is very water soluble. Very quick cleanup!
Provided materials include:
- Glaze
- Sponges
- Paintbrushes
- Aprons
- Sinks
- Stencils
- Pencils to sketch your design
(potentially more, may of missed something)
If I could recommend one thing, i’d say maybe a pamphlet explaining in a little bit more depth about how glaze works/ answering some questions that are presumably asked quite a lot (and questions that I asked the staff today also)
For eg.
- Can you mix the glazes?
- If you mix water and glaze does it make the finish less opaque?
- Can you layer light colours on top of dark colours once dry? (similar to acrylics/oils paints in canvas)
There were a few kids today which was adorable, definitely could make some cute things with them–but definitely a bit nerve wracking with the very breakable items and watery glazes laying around to spill. Of course dependent on the child though. Probably more suited to slightly older kids! (again, dependent on the child)
There was also a large indoor / outdoor cafe area which looked brilliant! We didn’t try it today as we had already spent a few hours painting our ‘Noodle Bowls’!
Absolutely planning to come back for some more glazing fun! And can’t wait to pick up our bowls in a weeks time after they’ve been fired in the kiln!
Thank you, Robert Gordon Pottery!
Came here to meet a friend for coffee. And thought could do early shopping for Christmas. Really spoilt for choice for all different design, texture or pottery ware.
Prices are quite dear considered they are designed in Australia and made in China.
Would still considered buying it as gifts for good friends.
Place is great and staff are friendly.
Amazing coffee, great food. But service is poor. You have to wait for ages to get your orders on the table. My suggestion to management: you need more staff at least on weekends if you’re so busy and can’t maintain the quality of the customer experience.
Built a strong name creating a Australian quality product and now maximising profits using Chinese mass production.
Pottery is beautiful. Staff attitudes are very poor and bordering on rude. If you can ignore the staff (probably easy as they ignore you too) the shop is lovely.
Food fab place fab great menu staff a little slow but the manger is very good at her job … hope we can visit again after lockdown.
Really nice fitout with lots of seating inside and out. Great looking food and good coffee. Also plenty of nice pottery to buy.
