Rayners Orchard reviews
66Extremely disappointed rushed not enough time to pick plus the lack of fruit to pick the tour is not worth $30.00 very poor quality will never going back stick to local orchards
Hi,
Visited on 13/01/2021 to purchase fruit and have Morning tea.
Unfortunately have Two issues of an adverse nature.
1. The prepackaged Nectarines when opened at home were as hard as cricket balls and one was starting to rot. (unseen in container at time of purchase)
2. More importantly the Food handling practices at the Cafe where not up to standard. The young male at the register did not have hair restraint on (needed Cap, Net or Bandana fitted) and kept running his non gloved hands through it. The same person when delivering the coffees to the table carried the cups with his non gloved fingers and thumbs over the drinking rims of the cups. (sanitized by ourselves prior to consumption)
Both of these would result in a fail on a Food Handling Audit.
Training badly needed.
Great fresh fruit and vegi delivered today Thank you, but did order 4 zucchini and got 3. Not charged by the kilo! Overall lovely and fresh.
Thoroughly enjoyed the ride through orchard stopped and ate lovely fresh fruit along the way Dog friendly great fresh fruit and produce for sale Trees for sale etc. Recommended for school trips as an educational project and experience friendly staff highly recommended will definitely be back awesome
Great range of fruit trees. The shop has nice range of gifts and super fresh produce. Their home made icecream is yummy. The chef was making family pies while we were there. Definitely a place to visit again.
I met Farmer Len at a Social Food Project event and we chatted about the best fruit around - the Feijoa. I've literally been waiting about 8 months for Feijoa season to hit so I can roll in and purchase me all the boxes. Friendly staff, and a great little shop with other pre-picked fruit and preserves available. Possibly a cafe was there but I was really there for one reason only - to get as many feijoas as possible for my belly. Thanks Len and the Rayners Orchard team.:)
I went to the Nursery:
Prices are comparable I got a discount for buying 2.
The Range of Fruit Trees is really excellent and varied.
Look up the web list of what they sell - it is extensive.
The Size and Health of the trees is very good.
Staff were polite and helpful.
I will come back and get some more - some of the plum variants
they sell are awesome.
Thanks
$30 per person for a tractor ride is way too expensive. Purchased one kilo of apricots for $7, when opening up the packet the next day, it turned out that many of the apricots at the bottom of the container were mouldy and I had to discard half of them.
I buy most of my fruit trees from the nursery here. Quality is always great but also the knowledge they have about all of their plants is amazing and they are always so so helpful on the phone and in person
Awesome place for fruit picking and a great educational tour. Farmer Len was amazing and took care of everyone. Thank you also to the staff in the cafe and on the grounds. Family had a great time. Happy Birthday shout out again to Farmer Len! Thank you and hope to see you again.
$32.50 per adult for an hour ride it’s a little over priced?
We are restricted to pick too? We were only allowed to pick from two sample trees that he pointed us to? Unlike the other cherry or berries picking experincen it’s a lot more free and easy!
Its a little too rush especially with young children? They don’t get to have much fun to run around or even to look at the fruits, select and pick! Just as my daughter started to pick the 2nd fruit, we were asked to leave? I don’t even get a chance to enjoy picking my own fruits!
Each stop is a stress for us too because we need to take the kids down and walk the uneven ground carefully.its easy to twist an ankle if one isn’t mindful.i wouldn’t recommend family with young children age below 3 to go.
My 4 years old is totally enjoying it! Len is friendly, drive us around a tractor. For the amount of fruits we have tasted and the guided tour, it worths the ticket.
Minor complaint but major gripe for me. Went just to purchase some fruit which came to $12. Presented my card to tap, and informed that there's a $1 surcharge for amounts under $15. C'mon guys, it's nearly 2020. Who carries cash and who on earth charges $1 to tap!
Little things like this matter.
Friendly and knowledgeable staff. Delicious fresh and jarred fruits, my favourite being the clingstone peaches. They also have unique homemade Liqueurs and spirits. Only downside is that a lot of the products can be considered expensive depending on your standards.
Visit here in November. Great guy Ian, very friendly and funny. Get a chance to take a photo sitting on the tractor. Only get to pick lemon during the visit and taste orange, apple, tamarillo.
Took an hour and a half drive there from Melbourne CBD as we heard the place was a fun place to explore. While it was a beautiful orchard with plenty of fruits to sample, you can only explore the orchard via a guided tour at $32.50 per pax (a supposed one hour tour where you get to eat fruits along the way). The guide himself was very friendly and knowledgeable, but the overall tour was a bit of a disappointment considering the price, as all we did was complete a short circuit (approx. 30 mins) around the orchard with only brief stops along the way. We did get to sample the fruits, which was delicious but for the price we were paying for, it was not worth it. All in all, if the price per pax was cheaper, it would have been more satisfactory. $32.50 for a brief tour and some sampling of fruits is too pricey.
Very bad experience.
The ticket is expensive for only 1 hour trip.
The tractor driver showed and stoped near the fruits which do not sale easily and have not good quality.
The tractor driver had only 1 knife and he was not willing to pass to people. We asked 3 times to give us knife so we can cut the fruit which we like.
The trop was only 1 hour. They even do not allow to visit alone and pick whatever we want.
Overall, they are making money rather than entertain customers. The plants are also very expensive as compared to other farms.
Maybe the people that keep complaining about the cost should just stay at home. The price of fruit is more expensive because it's organic. Surely, you're aware of how much the tractor ride cost if you bought the tickets. Seriously stop whinging.
Great place to buy quality fruit trees. Friendly, helpful staff who are happy to share their knowledge, and will help you choose the best tree.
The cafe looks pretty basic, but the food is delicious.
This may be one of the best places to pick stone fruits in Eastern Victoria but only during the correct season. So, make sure you go there during the fruit picking season. On our second visit, we called the place and asked if it is the stone fruits season. Instead of clearly advising it was not, the person answered the call hid that fact and said they have plenty of fruits to pick. Two hours later on the road, it turned out they only have few Kiwi Fruits and Citruses. We are less impressed (compared to our first visit).
