Racecourse Hotel reviews
55Terrific attentive service which is rare these days. However, overpriced venue you expect to get what you pay for but in this case they under delivered
Driven past a million times but first time in. This was never going to be a huge NYE venue which was just why we chose to go. Hope this doesn’t offend but staff were all a little more mature than usual which was appreciated. Good selection of drinks, sports bar, gaming lounge and bistro all very separate. Now, the food was fantastic. All 5 meals were faultless. Just perfect and such high quality. Thank you team
The roasted lamb salad (special) was below average. Potatos and pumkins were nice but not the lamb. Service was good and the bar itself was nice.
Marvellous evening with returning neighbours meeting family before they return home! Drinks & food menu top class, service even better!
Pretty cool place. Didn't have food but the overall vibe was pretty good. Friendly servers.
Lovely place for quiet drink
Lovely staff never seen a cross word between patrons ever in bar or restaurant
Haven't been to the Racecourse Hotel for many years & the service was magnificent
Stopped in recently for the first time mid afternoon. Didn't see anyone for a few minutes, so we sat ourselves. Then the manager told us we couldn't sit there because it was reserved for dinner only, followed by complaining how 'they were going to have to reset the table' as a result of us sitting there. Bizarre, seeing as we could have just.continued on with our meal since they were going to have to 'reset the table' anyways? ! Anyways, we moved to a different spot. They had a limited menu, so we ordered the calamari. I'll be perfectly honest: whatever that was, it was not calamari. Tasted more like a Hoki or Whiting tossed in some breading and seasoning used for calamari. Between the rude manager and some questionable 'fish', can't say we have any intentions of ever coming back.
Dropped on on Wednesday night. Had a couple of pints at the sports bar. Moved to the Bistro area. Was quite busy. The dining area looked upscale with nice area table cloths and wine glass.
I ordered the Surf and turf. Nice Scallops and shrimp with a nice tender piece of Eye Fillet on mash potatoes with brocollini.
Would recommend this place for dinner
Amazing food just eaten the best pork belly and my friend had the best Surf and Turf ever, so thankyou to everyone at the Racecourse Hotel
We were told we were allowed to sit anywhere we’d like. We did. Then a waitress proceeded to make comments in regards to our seating placement. We weren’t sure what we did wrong to get that. Then she proceeded to make it difficult to place an order. Told a manger about it. Didn’t even listen to our side of the story and went on a completely tangent about how our behaviour was wrong. I believe the only thing I did wrong was picked up water behind the bar. At the same time the employees didn’t approach or really give us a way to get more. I believe the establishment to be too posh for the typical tradies.
When Calamari is on the menu as a starter and seniors main meal, but when you ask if you can have it as a main, you are told,
"No, the menu is fixed, and the chef is immovable! "
- then I won't come back!
The menu is pretty 'meh', to start off with. Really boring.
They are much more accommodating and the menu more exciting at The Glasshouse Hotel in Caulfield, which is where I will go to eat in the future.
The old floor is interesting and that is about the only thing that is.
Staff are lovely, and the cocktails are good, but don't go for the food!
At 60th birthday NYE had great time. Staff great Food great. Facilities great. Had great experience
Hi Racecourse,
Normally visit your hotel about twice a week for lunch and enjoy the meals. Today, the Friday16th December 2022 visited the hotel and ordered a Pie of the Day" which said on the seniors menu to ask the waiter. I did so and then when paying they charged me $34-00 for a glass of house chardonnay and the Chicken pie of the day.
I questioned the young waiter and waitress who said you did not specify it was a "seniors meal" and "sorry mate"! So paid the account and shook my head not saying anything.
I am a senior of 67 years who visits your hotel regularly and orders a seniors meal or, if not particularly hungry, a Saganaki.
The problem is not the money but the attitude of the young staff members who have seen me on many occasions.
They need to be taught some customer service and some of them need to smile.
I have supported you during many lunches when there have been around about 8 people there.
This has put me off going there any longer.
They need Anna to teach them some customer service skills.
I would not have received this attitude from Anna. She is very good.
Cheers,
Nigel Carter
Love the Racecourse. Have been coming for 18 months now, and every time the food and service are great. Matilda is always an amazing host who goes above and beyond for their guests. Can’t wait to come back for our next visit!
The bar/restaurant manager was very pleasant and gave excellent service. There were 5 of us and we all very much enjoyed our meals.
We celebrated a big birthday here with a dinner for 20 people. The staff were all excellent and went out of their way to ensure the night was a great success. The food was very good and all our guests were very impressed.
Very nice.the food was good although limited as the kitchen is under renovations.the staff were very helpful and friendly.will definitely go there again.
When my partner and I moved in down the road from here, it was our local pub. Weeknight dinners were always amazing, service is always great. We have since moved 30 mins away, and yet still, last night we travelled so we could spend our anniversary dinner here, like we did the year before. We come here for our special occasions because it just feels so homely, and we know we are going to have a great time. We always feel welcomed, especially by Matilda, who always remembers us and treats us like old friends every time we go
Highly recommend to anyone looking for a quality, classic pub meal. TIP: always get the sticky date pudding for desert.
Great pub, wonderful atmosphere, delicious food. This was the perfect place to meet with people coming from all directions. A lovely evening.
