Melbourne resident’s favorite restaurant
I've been to all kinds of pho restaurants, but this is my favorite.
The spring rolls are really crispy and have a lot of shrimp in them.
The brisket noodle soup is clean and has a deep flavor, making it the best rice noodle soup in Melbourne.
The spicy rice noodles are also refreshing and spicy, so it’s a great hangover!
(Both rice noodles have lots of toppings and are great value for money!)
p.s. Please be kind, boss

The best pho in Melbourne
The owner is also funny and kind, and gives tangerines to Koreans when they come. Haha, he says they are Jeju tangerines.
It's close to the city, so if you come to Melbourne, eat pho here!
Spring rolls are also great

As someone who has travelled frequently to Vietnam this is probably one of the top 3 phos I've eaten in my life. The pho is very clean and feels very yummy homely comfort food. Highly recommended to anyone around this area to try it out!

Visitor from NZ and this is certainly one of the best Pho in Melbourne. Love the food and family atmosphere here. Will surely come again:)

As soon as I entered the store, I felt it was stuffy and messy. I ordered a bowl of raw beef pho. The meat was a bit tough and it tasted uncomfortable. The soup was too salty. I don’t know why it was rated so high. For this price, you can eat it in Springvale, cheaper than this, more delicious, and a big bowl

PHO A DO NOT GO

This review is posted to ensure people are aware of how this establishment is run. Relying on fake reviews with a very angry owner operator who gets wound up by the smallest triggers ie not sitting in allocated seat, asking for extra bowls or condiments or even angry for taking children.

FAKE 5* reviews. Review all the positive reviews and notice all the similarities (people from overseas/interstate very low review numbers and claiming what a great experience with owner - FAKE), review all negative reviews and notice the similarities (high review numbers claiming how angry the owner is and advising not to go here - REAL). Trust the negative reviews before going somewhere else.

Here is a response by owner that posted an honest 3 star review in August 2023 - "we can't recall exactly what really was at the time u were here. But, according to what u wrote, please don't come again then. Yes, don't come back. Was that clear?

And another for a real 1* review. "Fr: tom, rich b, lee mills & u; whole bunch of coward, the scum of society, never set foot in here, but kept post and re-post the made up bad review, for what? Fuk ni a ma. "
Fr: tom, rich b, lee mills & u; whole bunch of cowards, the scum of society, never set foot in here, but kept post and re-post the made up bad review, for what? The idiot lee mills is the leading one: post and repost since August last year. And that idiot also posted the Hanoi Pho and ask our customers to go there months and months, then no one respond to his full of hatred review. Finally, that idiot remove that post (perhaps Hanoi pho stop paying him

And here's about response to another real 1 star review September 2023:
"Crazy margin root, fr 3* to 1*: because you can't handle the true, right? Why not give 0 then? I respond nice to u.but u don't care. Oh yes, quiet, so what? R u itchy? In here everyone is equal, oh u r not happy b/c u don't want to sit at the position for one customer only. And u want to sit at a big table by yourself. When the boy say No, u pick on everything. Let me tell u this: at Pho A Gogo, we serve the Best Vietnamese Noodles Soup in Town and we serve our customers with our pride! But not u. "

U think it's fun to post and repost the review will make us to scare of u? The answer is: Big No.u was asore loserwoman, u r and will always be a soreloser woman.

By far the best Vietnamese noodles I've had in Melbourne!
Highly recommended, although the owner may have his or her likes or dislikes, nice guy

I recently started patronising Pho A Gogo as a take-away customer. I’ve managed to sample quite a variety of the pho and rice dishes on offer thus far, and have always been completely satisfied. (The spring rolls are awesome too.) Pho A Gogo is easily a 5-star casual Vietnamese eatery, and definitely one of the best (if not THE best) pho joints in Melbourne, and perhaps, beyond…

Having not dined-in, I cannot refute many of the highly negative reviews left here. But what I can offer is this; Pho A Gogo is a private business, and IMHO well within its rights to set and enforce its own rules, especially when in regards to health and safety, and pricing.

As a consumer, I appreciate authenticity, and I do believe at this establishment, you get an entirely authentic experience.

The boss is very interesting. The beef pho and spring rolls are very authentic. The rich soup with refreshing bean sprouts, lemon and basil leaves is the imaginary Vietnamese taste. Five-star recommendation

We’ve had pho all along the East coast of Australia and this place is number one! So much flavour and no msg thirst afterwards.
Highly recommend the prawn spring rolls also.
Very reasonable prices and the most friendly service. We’ll be back every time we come to Melbourne!

Interesting experience… firstly there was a lock on the entrance door which wasn’t very inviting at all imo. Felt like I was trapped inside the restaurant.

Also overheard the owners asking customers to leave a 5 star review, probably the reason why the restaurant is so highly rated (read a previous review that said the same).

Nevertheless good food, but experience was a let down.

I’m of Vietnamese background and you could basically call me a professional pho eater. The pho here is ace. Soup is delicious and they give you a generous amount of topping. Watch out for the chilli it was super spicy!

Tl;dr good food bad service hidden charge

Food is decent enough for sure and kids are also cute for sure, but beware of hidden charges (a dollar for an empty bowl) masquerading as (paraphrase) "oh our pho is already great value, if you share you half the price and is even better value, washing the bowl costs extra, one dollar is not a lot". Sympathy money? Shame money? Whatever this is. We would happily pay an extra dollar (even two!) for the pho but hidden charges are not reasonable. They can charge more for the pho, they can set minimum spending for each customer, or even a 10% service charge. But NOT asking the customer "is one dollar a lot? " in the middle of the restaurant and going on and on with the ridiculous explanation. Which is sure a great way to spoil a customer's meal.

That sure felt like the owner was trying to shame us into pay the one dollar.

A shout out to the two guys at another table with voicing the same opinion at the owner, saying they feel sorry for us being yelled at. We just can't be bothered to argue as we are just tourists who, good pho or not, probably won't be back anyway. Cheers guys.

Edit: I edited some spelling mistakes.

Edit 2 to owner: Sure, whatever you say man, you still have 4.8 stars, and I did say you food is absolutely fine. I still won't be coming back anytime soon, Covid or not, but, yeah, whatever you like, sure, yes. Feel free to tell your side of the story.

The pho is very authentic and delicious. The business has been affected by the pandemic and the boss needs support from the community to revive the business.
