Papa Gino's reviews
47A family favourite for as long as I can remember. Quick service, fantastic pizza and a great vibe.
It was a good experience! Big serving and delicious food. Quick serving as well. They serve complimentary bread initially, would have been better if it has olive oil on the side. We ordered the 3 pastas, value for money is given and tasted amazing. Pizza calabrese was good too. Overall, i highly recommend this restaurant for families or anyone. Kid friendly as well.
Great food, unpretentious and comfortable. I enjoyed the capriciosa pizza and a glass of cab sav as a quick no fuss lunch in between things in Carlton.
I used to come here a lot in my student days and it hasn't changed a bit. Still busy and you can't book. But the waiting time at 1pm on a weekday was only 5 minutes. Pizzas were a little drier than I remember.
I really can’t tell why this restaurant is famous. The food I had that night was mediocre. Although the waiter who took our order was friendly, but they didn’t refill our water and didn’t serve the bread until we asked two times. After that, the breads were cold. And the pasta, they do have the fancy menu with so many options. However, those we tried were just disappointed to us. The price was ok. It just not a place that I will visit again.
Papa Gino's Italian restaurant has been around for many, many years and the food has stayed delicious the entire time! Give it a go! It's truely delicious!
Needed a lighter lunch and headed to @PapaGinosCarlton for a small pizza
#11 marescialla with cheese - tomato, ham, black olives, spices and bacon. It didn't take long and a steaming hot pizza was in front of eyes in no time. Crispy base that is not thick but holds firm, the first bite is lovely, excellent mix of ingredients with lovely flavour. Like the saltiness of the anchovies, black olives and bacon, slight oiliness from the cheese, gooey and yum with each bite, the tomato balances it all out. Solid pizza, just the perfect size.

One of Lygon Street Carlton's institution restaurants passed down from family generations. Good range of we'll priced decent quality food. Can get busy.
Ideally located in the heart of vibrant Lygon St, Papa Ginos is a great family Friendly Restaurant and Pizzeria, with excellent Service by its Staff and Delicious Food to enjoy.
Definitely a place that cannot be missed when in Lygon Street!
Staff were friendly and accommodating but the foods were not what I expected. Ordered a garlic focaccia, a pizza, lasagna and tiramisu for dessert. Must be what I ordered because I found the lasagna and pizza were very salty, the jug of water was the saviour for the night. Definitely the garlic focaccia was the highlight out of all the foods we ordered, tiramisu was better than expected.
Great pizza! Ordered a large, to take some home but could resist and ate the lot. Friendly service and delicious pizza. Thanks!
This is a little hidden gem. The pizza was really delicious and plenty of toppings put on
Music knows
Great old school Lygon pizza, pasta and mains place that’s run by a family of brothers since the beginning of time.fantastic with kids and great value
Have been coming here since the 80's. The food is tasty, the service is efficient & friendly & the atmosphere is always buzzing. Great value for money. You don't leave this place hungry!
Such a wonderful atmosphere, cozy and great service, the food was amazing and thank for the kind gesture of singing “happy birthday“ we all loved Papa Gino and can’t wait to return.
Loved it! We set out to support a Lygon Street business after recent events. The food was excellent, service fantastic and inside presentation very clean and well set out. Many thanks
This is one of best in Lygon Street for a no fuse good value meal. Seafood marinara is the best. Even better with the garlic sauce. Great value.
This is not traditional italian pizza. It is a totally different thing. 90s style australiana (italian inspired) pizza and it is one of my all time favourites.
I love this restaraunt.
One of my favourite places to dine in Melbourne. Their service is excellent and they serve affordable and tasty food with good portion sizes. Their cream-based Ai Funghi is to die for!
Excellent to go casual pasta place. Always go here to get my pasta and pizza fix and this place never dissapoints. I especially love their creamy mushroom pasta or carbonara. The pastas were cooked to perfection and the sauce was not overwhelmingly creamy or cheesy that would make it too rich to finish an entire dish, which is an issue I find with many other Italian restaurants. Great portion size and very reasonably priced. Fast and friendly service. Only thing I would say is that the interior feels very outdated and gloomy making other places a more preferrable choice when it comes to aesthetics, group dining or cute dates with a s/o.
PROS:
- amazing pasta, cooked perfectly with the right balance of flavours
- generous portion sizes
- reasonably prices
- friendly and efficient service with complimentary homemade bread and butter
CONS:
- atmosphere is bustling but feels slightly outdated and underwhelming for special occasions or a date night out
