Okami (Doncaster) - Japanese All You Can Eat reviews
60 Would have been 0 stars but I have to give at least 1 star. The service was slow and the food was cold. As a table we paid nearly $400 for the meal only to get home and have them ring us to tell us they had made a mistake and we owed another $26.70. They then demanded that we transfer them the money for the mistake that they had made. I have no problem paying the extra, but it could have been dealt with in a better way.
Update: Thanks for the reply Okami Doncaster. What am I struggling with is the fact that the staff openly admitted the mistake and we're clearly embarrassed by what they were being asked to do by ringing us. It was clear that there was a person in the background who claimed to be their Boss forcing their staff to continue badgering us till we paid the balance of their mistake.
Great authentic japanese food, will go again many times.reasonable price and good service
Edit: 19th May 2022, changed to 1 star, we arrived at 8pm, 30minutes over the booking time. We were told last order from the kitchen is 9: 15pm.
It's now 8: 20pm as we sit here waiting for staffs come to our table, and hopefully give us the pencil and paper to write our order.
The staffs saw that clearing the empty table next to us more important, we haven't even been given water.
Waiter finally came to take order as we were about to leave. (We were supposed to call them apparently).
I don't care how good the food is, will be very hard to convince me to come back
Go to another restaurant. I've been to other Okamis and never had the bad service like I did at Doncaster. We were ignored the while time of being in the restaurant. We had to continually flag the staff down to ask for water, food, chopsticks etc.
They even forgot to bring out most of the food we ordered, even after reminding them, they accused us of not ordering anything (however we ordered 6 items and they bought out one of the items.it was clear that just forgot)
Food was average - we ordered the beef and it came out still partially frozen.
The restaurant wasn't busy at all (possibly only 20 people in a restaurant that could seat 100+
The staff were rude and absent.
Better driving a little further for a better restaurant next time
The quality of food is not great as I expected.
The service was good.
Atmosphere was good.
Price was good for what you get.
I don’t think I go back.
Used to be rated 4 stars. Went to Doncaster apparently where there is a 'shortage of salmon'. Many items ordered didn't come out and some came 45 minutes later. Never again! Quality of the food that came out has dropped significantly.
After reading a few good and bad comments, we'd like to venture to give it a try on my birthday. Dishes are delivered fast and neat, food are fresh and delicious. Service was not bad as like other comments mentioned, or I should say they have tried hard already with just 3 waiters serving all the tables including taking orders and serving tables. The only thing has taken out the one star would be the tuna. Think it should put a sticker to mention about wht the tuna is not included in the assorted sushi dish.
Liked the idea of all you can eat Japanese. Suchi and Sashimi platter, tempura prawns were tasty as well as the noodles and thinly sliced beef.
Take-away review only: Food is plentiful at a decent price. It is also delicious. Staff are friendly and try to be helpful but need to work on customer service. Couple of recent separate experiences are waiting for all the food delivery drivers to be served while watching my food go cold, and being given the wrong blll. Wont stop me going back though.
Quality of food isn't fantastic but still delicious. Avoid the sushi it does not taste fresh. You get what you pay for being around $40 for all you can eat. Good place to go if your strapped for cash but want a big feed!
Been here quite a few times with family as the place is spacious, good value for money. However today the service wasn't great, many dishes disappeared frommenu. We ordered 10-16 servings of each dish for our big group 16 ppl but were only served 3 servings of each dish for the whole table. We could not eat as much as we wished but relied on what they provided us with. Only 2 hour seatings and food came out very slowly although we have asked for multiple times. Each of us could only eat a small portion of each dishes and not worth for what we paid at all. They are losing their regular customers, they should have looked at the table size to bring out more food at the first time. Dont come at busy time such as dinners on weekend as you wont be served as much as you want
Quite noisy, found it difficult to chat within our own table. Felt crowded.
Food and staff were nice. Great that BYO wine is allowed.
Good food and a good variety of dishes for a very reasonable price. Food is ordered a la carte and brought fresh to the table.
In this Japanese style restaurant, you may order anything except the sashimi and sushi. Salmon slices are as thin as a pice of paper, not even better than any sushi take-away, forget about it. Strongly suggest to remove from the menu.
I don't wanna give it even one star. This is NOT a real buffet. It has an unspoken rule that if you order too much you won't be served. There are much invisible salt and sugar in most dishes so you need lots of drinks and easily get full. My order has not been served after one hour and I had to make my last order in one and half hour, not 2 hours. I washed most dishes so I still can have more but they just deliberately ignore me. This is the first time I had a buffet and need more food to top up when I go home. Okami has been removed from my list.
Were not very friendly.
Wanted us out as soon as possible.
Refused to serve us more than one of the same dish at a time (we had a seating time limit) - this was not helpful.
Food came up pretty quick at the start but getting slower with smaller portions after.
It is acceptable that service is slow on busy weekend dinner but it is not acceptable for the waitress to show her attitude when we are just trying to chase up the food that we have been waiting for 20 minutes.
We ordered 3 servings of sushi platter but they don’t provide tuna nigiri for us. Then I ask for reason as their menu clearly shows tuna nigiri. A boy said they provide it for larger group but we just 2pp. This is so weird and unacceptable. I ask another girl requesting tuna nigiri then they suddenly can do it. Foods are cold even skewers and beef. Stir fried veggie is too wet. Not happy for today’s food.
Price has gone up.food arrives cold.multiple items ordered from when we first arrived never came.
Good food with good value, the main downside was they served the birthday cake inside the box!
Didn’t bother taking the cake out of the box and light up the candles.expected more from such restaurant!
Good value with great food at an affordable price. The service staffs was so so, probably because of the mask and they were busy so they didn’t smile that much (which is understandable to me). We came as a group of 4. When we read reviews online, many people praised the Beef Carpaccio but I found it not that delicious. However, Eggplant salad and Agedashi tofu are must-try dishes, make sure you won’t miss them.
The BIG BIG downside was the cashier woman (whom I guess was the owner). Her attitude and customer services was 0/100. She didn’t bother asking whether we were enjoyed the food or the atmosphere, nor even smiled with us (although we were paying money). And that to my humble opinion, it was a terrible thing a customer should experience. This is not how you do business. We never come back since then, it was our first and last time there.
