I absolutely love that I can just book online without having to request a quote or ask for availability. Saves so much time and means I can quote for jobs quicker too. Their booking process and customer service are on point! Plus they're almost always cheaper than other Melbourne rental houses.

I have hired from these guys for almost 10 years now and they have always provided the best product and service. They offer the perfect range of gear for what I need, and they take care of their gear (the equipment is clean and neatly presented upon hire with freshly charged batteries). Very organised. Can not fault them.

I used to rent photography equipment for my Canon gear through Michaels Camera in the CBD, and due to the pandemic economic impact, they are no longer offering the hiring service. Today, I went to Offshoot Rentals looking to hire a flash for personal use this weekend in a family member wedding, and trusting it was more convenient for me as this business is located just around the corner from my house.

Unfortunately, I just encountered absolutely rude servicing staff. After paying a booking fee and providing all my details, credit card, drivers licence, address, medicare and identification passport; the staff tells me I can’t hire the flash because I’m just a Permanent Resident and not a citizen of Australia. The fact of being only a Permanent Resident is not a reason for discrimination and having proved all the necessary identification, as a consumer it translates automatically to the service rights for anyone operating under the Australian Consumer Law.

An absolute discriminatory situation and unprofessional treatment. It was better for me then to go and buy the flash rather than support a local business? I guess $30 for this hire booking is worth more than a proper customer service. Whereas I have acquired premium products through other businesses in the country, I found this situation frustrating and disappointing.

Since we first rented from these guys almost a decade ago, we've always loved the friendly service they've provided. Having evolved from Ben's Hire in Fitzroy to Offshoot in Preston, the level of service and interest in our projects has remained constant.

They're an absolute asset to Melbourne's production community!

Friendly and helpful service for a reasonable price. Take their time to explain the equipment and conditions. Now at a better location too (previous location had poor parking)

Grace and the team were instrumental with ensuring that our shoot went well, and everyone was quite accommodating through the entire process. Booking gear from across the globe can be quite stressful, but it never felt like there was anything to worry about.

Communication is amazing, equipment was quite reasonably priced, and the overall experience was excellent. 10/10 Would rent again!

This has to be the best place to get your gear from. Staff are always so friendly and have helped me out on a number of different shoot where I’ve needed gear at the very last minute. Very fast replies by email and have a good selection of stuff to pick from. Parking there can be a hassle but they are moving to Preston and I was told would have more parking. Highly recommend

Great people overall

I’ve been using offshoot for various camera and grip rental for the past 4 years. They’re super friendly and easy to deal with every single time. The range of equipment and their attention to detail are fantastic. Can’t recommend them highly enough. Only thing that can be annoying is parking out the front of their building for pickup and drop off, otherwise only praise for Offshoot!
