N.Lee Bakery reviews
56Banh mi, Vietnamese iced coffee. Both are great here. Ordering was easy and generally not too long a wait if you get in early or around off-peak times. They are very popular though, so there's usually a line most of the time but don't be put off by it - the line progresses quickly.
Hands down the best Bahn mi I have eaten in Melbourne. Well worth riding out of my way to get them. I may have found my sunday morning ritual.
You can ask for different levels of chilli from no chilli to extra chilli. Beware of the chilli level since they are actually spicy. I like them with extra chilli but I like burning my tongue off occasionally. YMMV.
I read a lot of great reviews about this place before visiting and I'm going to add to that collection. I visited on a Sunday lunch time and had the BBQ chicken on a wholemeal roll with extra coriander. OMG it was packed with flavour and filling and all for a bargain $6.50! I have to say this is one of the best cheap eats around inner city Melbourne so head on down and try it out for yourself. Trust me, you won't be disappointed.
Great banh mi’s here. Ordered the crispy pork banh mi and a meat pie for a friend. Bread was soft on inside and crunchy on outside, and generous with the crispy pork. Only issue I had here was it was on the little expensive side for a banh mi ($9.30). Accepts EFTPOS which is handy!
Highly recommend going to Peel Street Park and eating there out in the sun.
N. Lee banh mi lives up the hype for being one of the best in Melbourne and most accessible for those living in the inner city. Not all fillings are created equal with the best flavour to try is the chicken and pork combo. Whipped Mayo is the binding spread here which I gladly welcomed.
Drinks on the otherhand were average and slightly subpar with a dearer price tag if you're going for Vietnamese coffee/drinks.
Service is as expected and they're a lovely shopfront and I recommend this place and the options yoy can get.
Tax dodgers, instead of charging you the bank fee, they insist on you buying extra items to meet the $10 minimum. There are also better places on the street, their rolls arent even crispy. They are soft like hod dog rolls. Rude, especially the younger woman with the head like a boiled egg.
Yum! Pork crackling bahn mi was delicious. Do expect a wait of about 15-20mins at peak lunch time!
Alright I'm going to say it. This was the best Bánh mì I have ever had. Was the crispy pork and I loved it!
Fresh bread, meat cooked to perfection, ratio of the ingredients on point. Not a dull bite! Thoroughly enjoyed!
Will be back for more.
Best banh mi in the area, and maybe in all of Melbourne.
Pretty good ordering system too, you never have to wait long.
Try the vanilla slice.
This is the best place in Melbourne to get a good Bahn Mi (Vietnamese Roll). I personally recommend grilled pork or BBQ pork/pork crackling, but if you are looking for something a little more halal, then the chicken is great too. They make their own bread on-site and free ingredients are always fresh. The prices are reasonable.
Good banh mi. Not the best. Could do with more fillings. But their bread is very very good. I love the small dinner rolls. Perfection! Quick service.
Pork belly bahn mi is quite good. The meat is tender and juicy. Service is nice as well. They gave a genius explanation about every fillings in the bahn mi. Will try the tofu bahn mi next time:)
Crispy pork bank mi was just ok; 5/10 as Melbourne banh mis go. There were bones in the pork and the crackling was very soggy and not crispy. The pickled carrot and daikon wasn’t pickled enough so it was overall lacking flavour. And the bread was fresh but not crusty on the outside. If you’re after a banh mi on smith st there are far better options. However they are very efficient and clean.
It's a tiny take away shop, slightly larger than a hole in a wall. Had the Pork belly Bahn mi and a latte. The latte was strong, hot without a hint of burnt grains, very good well in line with Melbourne standards. The Bahn mi was also excellent. The pork belly was tender and juicy and full of flavour. The crackling is delicious and crispy offering a trademark crack and crunch. Full of strong savoury and umami notes. The rest of the filling is sharp and fresh adding texture to the roll. Comes with a healthy serving of coriander, so coriander haters beware. Also reasonably priced considering the standard they are achieving. The only thing that could be improved is maybe a tiny bit more crackling but that is maybe bordering on a bit indulgent.
Sensational Bahn mi served up here. Been coming here for 25 years and never been dissatisfied. Best in Melbourne. High praise and thanks to you all.
One of the best banh mi bakeries in Melbourne hands down! There's always a queue around lunchtime that stretches out the door past the next shop so try and avoid if you can but it's worth the wait!
Best Vietnamese buns so far in town. Always line up. Plus they open at early good to grab one after long night shift.
The most delicious and fresh pork belly rolls, egg and bacon rolls, pork rolls. Extremely quick service.

I was strolling around in Fitzroy-Collingwood area enjoying the weather when I found this cozy bakery cafe full of locals. One of the workers recommended me 'Crispy Pork Belly Banh Mi' so I decided to give that a go. I was first surprised by the generous portion of meat inside the fresh baguette. Pork Belly was crispy but slightly dry on the outside. Regardless, it was soft, fatty and juicy inside! I also liked how it was filled with fresh veggies with lots of chili and coriander - just perfect!:) Overall, it sure was delicious but nothing outstandingly special. Worth a visit only if you are in the area
Favourite place to eat in Melbourne hands down. Bread is phenomenal. Perfect balance of flavours in every banh mi.
