New Shanghai reviews
64 I ordered pan-fried buns and Chao Shou. The first pan-fried bun was still a little raw in the middle. I told the waiter that I wanted him to take a look at the kitchen. He didn't take it away and went in to ask the kitchen. The kitchen said that the cooking time was enough. I asked another waiter, he took it directly to the kitchen and made me a new one.
The Chaoshou is not as delicious as before, and there is very little red oil and peanut butter.
Very busy Chinese restaurant in the heart of Chadstone can offer Authentic Shanghai flavors. The service can not be discussed as all waiters try to make all customers happy on the busy day. The food was average, and there was nothing to impress me. A normal flavor covered with spices. Give it a try and let us know what your opinion is.
Noodles were good. Dumplings filled me up. However, the chilli oil wonton we ordered was sweet for some reason.
I don’t usually write reviews. This food is the worst. Pork dumpling were close to inedible. Everything was bad, don’t waste your money. The fried was was the best and it was only good because it was plain and safe. It was also $100 for two people no alcohol.
Food was decent but nothing extraordinary. Expected better for the price tag. I wouldn't go back.
Really bad service. We requested to sit on the window seats, which had dirty dishes which had not been cleared up. The employee said we could sit and that she would clear up the table for us. We waited for 15 minutes and noone came to clear up the table until we asked one of them to do so. Even then, the employee cleared up the table and did not wipe down the dirty table! Again, we had to ask for our table to be wiped down after another 10 minutes of waiting because it was so dirty! I never had to ask a restaurant to clean the table which was previously used by a customer. All employees seemed like they were half asleep and didn't want to be there.
I recently had the pleasure of dining at New Shanghai, and I must say it was an outstanding experience from start to finish. This restaurant truly captures the essence of authentic Chinese cuisine while providing a modern and inviting ambiance.
The moment I stepped inside, I was greeted with warm hospitality and a friendly staff that made me feel right at home. The decor beautifully combines traditional elements with a contemporary twist, creating a comfortable and visually appealing space.
Now, let's talk about the food. The menu at New Shanghai offers an extensive selection of dishes that showcase the diverse flavors of Chinese cuisine. From classic favorites to unique creations, there is something for every palate. I highly recommend trying their signature dumplings, which were exquisitely prepared and bursting with flavor. The freshness of the ingredients was evident in every bite.
The service was exceptional throughout the evening. The waitstaff was attentive, knowledgeable, and eager to assist with recommendations and any special dietary requirements. They provided prompt service without making us feel rushed, allowing us to enjoy each course at our own pace.
What truly sets New Shanghai apart is their attention to detail. The presentation of the dishes was stunning, and it was evident that great care had been taken in their preparation. The flavors were well-balanced, and the portion sizes were generous.
In addition to the fantastic food, the restaurant had a well-curated beverage menu, featuring a variety of traditional Chinese teas and creative cocktails that complemented the dishes perfectly.
Overall, my dining experience at New Shanghai exceeded all expectations. The combination of delicious food, welcoming atmosphere, and impeccable service made it a memorable evening. I wholeheartedly recommend this restaurant to anyone seeking an authentic and enjoyable Chinese dining experience. I can't wait to visit again!
Good food but a tad overpriced for the serving size. Very poor service as I waited nearly an hour for my drink to come out and the food was well and truely finished by then
New Shanghai used to be a great place to visit should you need your dumpling fix. It has now turned into a restaurant that is dirty where tables are not cleaned properly and no sense of customer service is available at all.
They must have put the wrong settings for the microwave to heat up the Crispy Fried Chicken Noodle Soup as the soup and noodles were lukewarm, my morning coffee is hotter. Tables who arrived later than us and also ordering after us received their food first. Would not return.
Great food, delicious, however very bad service. Had to ask a waiter twice to clean up food from previous people. I would go back when I am shopping in Chadstone but otherwise I wouldn't go if I wasn't shopping.
Gone downhill a bit, had to wait ages for a table when there were plenty of empty tables inside. Inflation, shrinkflation and surcharges all hit pretty hard, not good value for money. Not sure why but pork and Chinese cabbage dumpling (a very typical dumpling dish) wasn't even on the menu (it used to be). Won't be back in a hurry.
Used to be good a couple of years ago. Now definitely not worth it. Especially considering the price, a lot of better options out there.
A few times I have dined here and not necessarily had a problem with the food. It’s the service, they force you to pay and order via the app which includes a huge service fee. Why did my order of $97 garner a $12 fee? Doesn’t make sense if I want to tip I will, don’t want to be forced to do so. And the service itself is below average.
We ordered dumpling, 麻婆豆腐, fried rice and 小籠包. Everything was really tasty and was a good atmosphere.
Reasonable food and nice ambience. Staff tried their best to serve although they seemed overwhelmed. Wished they had chilly oil placed on the table. Incidentally we benefitted from the Victorian Dining Rebate which approved our meal claim within 24 hours!
Went on a busy Sunday afternoon and was seated immediately after queuing up. Service was great as the first dish came out within 10mins of waiting. Really enjoyed my experience her as food was tasty and reasonably priced.
Visiting New Shanghai at Chaddy with my family right now. Unfortunately, this place has the worst customer service. Can do so much better if the staff was not rude. Should’ve read the reviews first before coming here.
Food: 4.5 stars
Service: 0
Came here with my wife and mum and between us we ordered 6 dishes. 3 came out pretty quickly and tasted great, however we waited 30 minutes and then had to follow 3 three separate times after just go a bucket of rice, wonton noodle soup and a red bean pancake.
Bloody ridiculous that we had the ask twice for the rice whilst our vegetables are sitting in front of us getting cold.
Food overall tasted pretty good but some dishes were cold by the time the rice came.
With so many other food options at chadstone, please step up your game!
Normal service. And the noodle taste like nothing.
Regret to go. Better to go food court.
Pricey too.
Not recommend and not worth it
Wide range of Chinese food. Try their xiao long bao! (Dumpling). Take it out carefully so you dont burst and leak its soup within. Add vinegar to enhance it:)
