Murasaki Tanuki Japanese Takeaway & Dine In reviews
73Honest opinion, the food wasn't as good as we envisioned it to be. Came across the restaurant accidentally and saw its high rating and thought we'll give it a try. The Udon and Ramen came out bland, and while the takoyaki and kaarage taste decent, but there is no real "wow" factor from both dishes. Maybe we ordered the wrong dish, maybe that's what authentic japanese food tastes like and we're expecting a bit too much. But if we ate there and decided to go next door to another restaurant straight afterward because we're still feeling hungry and a bit dissatisfied, says it all. We'll give it a second try, but not coming back anytime soon
Deliciously fresh with a wide variety in their Bento boxes.
You can tell when fish is fresh by their distinct lack of fishy sea smells and the salmon that came with the Bento was perfectly unstinky.
The miso soup is perfectly hot and not too salty and all the ingredients are very fresh and very high in quality.
One of the best Japanese restaurants I have been to in Melbourne. The chicken karage bento box and Murasaki rolls are my favorites! Long wait times but the food is worth it! Highly recommend. Sometimes it can be hard to place an order as the place is very busy. The food is made with great care and the presentation is excellent.
Authentic Japanese at a reasonable price. Place could do with a makeover however food and service is good.
Amazing Authentic Japanese restaurant!
Friendly staff and beautiful food.
I love their cake and Chirashi don:)
Very nice and authentic Japanese restaurant. Certainly brought back the memory and atmosphere of eating in a restaurant in Japan. Certainly recommended.
Probably the best affordable Japanese restaurant in the area. My personal go-to spot for Japanese food cravings. Sushi and sashimi is extremely fresh, and the amount of fish is very generous. I would also recommend trying the udon, which has a broth which is probably one of the best I've ever tasted. All other dishes are very satisfying and I am yet to be disappointed.
Good quality of traditional Japanese food! Probably one of the best for this price range.
However the waitress was too busy and was not able to properly serve the customers sitting on the outside tables
Always good for family gatherings. Excellent sashimi and sushi. Bentos are highly recommended. Desserts were gorgeous. Family run.
Fantastic restaurant. Good food and friendly staff. Have to wait a while for food but definitely worth it.
Used to visit regularly before lockdown. Today went for dinner with my wife. Same embience but more staff for the increase patrons.
Menu increase with more varieties. Food fresh but serve size remains same although prices increase.
On the whole, we enjoy and will return. Services are good & friendly.
Incredibly fresh sushi, traditional and enormously generous for the price. A must try for sushi lovers. They were very busy and we were told there would be a wait for sushi and it was well worth it. Excellent service as well! Everything we had including the matcha latte and ramen were delicious.
Fresh and authentic sashimi. Real Japanese restaurant you cannot find another one in the area. Services are excellent too.

: Got these delicious treats from my friend. How amazing do these look? I’m a big fan of Japanese dessert, especially anything chestnut or pumpkin.
️: My favorite was the Chestnut Tart. The perfect amount of sweetness, the chestnut paste so tasty and full of flavor. The Strawberry daifuku was also so soft and creamy. Just the right texture!
Consistently one of the best and most authentic Japanese restaurants in the Eastern Suburbs of Melbourne. We’ve come here again and again and every single time we leave so satisfied with our food. The sashimi is always so fresh and melts in your mouth.the karage chicken is always fried perfectly.and the dessert is home made and so delicious. The experience of eating here really brings us back to Japan, can’t think of a higher review to give!
Don't let the 'ordinary decoration' and 'non fancy plating' fool you. Way too cheap for their level of quality. Can easily charge a little more and still be worth it.
A hidden gem in the area, this small and cozy restaurant serves up the freshest sashimi and sushi rolls, along with generous sized bentos. We ordered takeout from them recently and their murasaki roll is to die for
Highly recommend their sushis, sashimis and rice dishes. Would skip the ramen as its just average.
Haven't been here for quite a while, but the standard is still good. It is more crowded now and I saw the take away order was non-stop. The Bento set was simple, fresh and feels like it's home-cooked; not too salty nor sweet. The curry katsu rice was very filling and good too.
Very nice Japanese food in the suburbs. Their dessert is amazing too! Can be quite packed but nice food, good service and good price!
Delicious and freshly food, For many years of loyal fans, although it takes half an hour to drive to this delicious restaurant, I like it, and I am willing to drive farther.
