One of the best Japanese restaurant in Melbourne. Very nice Sashimi and Sushi. Very authentic! Japanese owner and staff. Highly recommended

Saw this restaurant was recommended to me on Facebook so I started following it.finally got a chance to come here to try out, ordered a chicken katsu don for takeaway, took 15 minute to prepare and I was able to tell it was run by an authentic Japanese family, there are real Japanese people.the food is very delicious and the portion size is massive.immediately became one of my favourite here in Melbourne. Highly recommended!

I enjoyed the taste of Japan. I felt Japan from the sushi rice of chirashi sushi, and I was satisfied with the amount and quality of the ingredients. I will come back to eat again!

Delicious food and friendly service. Chicken was juicy and crispy and the desserts weren't too sweet but would have liked more flavour.

A stand out was the pudding which the caramel was done very well.

We took away some bento and dons and ate them at home. It was an extra emotional meal as we ate while watching the anime "Your Name". The food was so authentic that I felt like I was being transferred into the Japanese scenes of the anime. I particularly recommend the bentos. Every element of the bento was seasoned so beautifully - not a single bland ingredient at all. The dons tasted really lovely too and is a slightly cheaper option compared to the bentos. Highly recommend!

I almost never give non-5 star reviews if things are competent, but boy oh boy.

First we tried calling ahead three times, during their opening hours, to book a table, none of them were answered.

After we walked in, the three of us ordered a katsu curry, a una bento, and a sashimi platter. It took more than half an hour for the curry to show up, then the una bento. After the two of us were finished, the third person of our party was still waiting for her sashimi. I had to leave my friends there after an hour of sitting in the unheated outdoor dining area because I felt I was going to catch a cold.

The food was okay, the staff were friendly, but it doesn't matter if neither show up! It might have taken less time for me to catch my own salmon and cut it into sushi at this rate

By the way, shortly after we arrived, 3 customers gathered by the counter inside waiting for their takeaway. They haven't left by the time I left. At least we had somewhere to sit during the hour-long wait, I guess.

The ramen was the best thing I had tasted in Murasaki. The noodles were perfect and the soup was perfect. The Murasaki rolls are my another must-order item. Everything was so delicious

A family owned Japanese restaurant, it offers authentic Japanese cuisine. Whilst the place is small, the menu has a lot to offer. The sashimi and sushi are really fresh. The salmon remen soup base is tasty and the texture of the noodles is excellent. Most importantly, the price is reasonable, probably because the venue is a bit dated.

Murasaki Tanuki is a rare gem - a family owned and operated Japanese restaurant serving authentic food. The food is prepared fresh to order, so keep in mind longer wait times. If wanting take away, it’s a good idea to phone ahead, don’t just walk in.

Finally made it hear after recommendations from my Japanese friends, very glad I did. Really nice authentic food and good value for money. A good if somewhat small range of Japanese alcohol and drinks. Not a huge place so I think booking is a good idea, the staff are really nice and helpful also. I'm looking forward to going back to try more of the menu

Decent Japanese food at a more reasonable price than most "Japanese" restaurants. The Bento dishes are pretty good value and the Udon is tasty (serving is a bit small though). Miso soup is yummy too. This place is popular throughout the week and will get crowded at meal times (especially dinnertime) even on weekdays.

Cakes were delicious and in high demand! Unfortunately, the person who makes them is away, will have to wait for them to come back and resume selling the delicious cakes:)

This is my go to Japanese, all perfect and always the same. You may wait because everything is expertly prepared. I recommend this Japanese restaurant to anyone!

Did not take my order and time seriously.

I placed a takeaway order at 5: 25 PM on 10 Sep 22 promising my order would be ready at 7: 30 PM. I arrived on time, but my order was ready only at 7: 50 PM. All staff appeared to be prioritising dine-in customers.

The fried octopus I ordered was soggy when I collected it. Nigiris were okay.

Beautiful Japanese food, the agedashi tofu was sensational, all the dons were terrific but the star of the show truly was the sushi! The sashimi was fresh and wonderfully cut, and the nigiri made me see love hearts. Big, thick cuts of fresh fish on perfectly seasoned and shaped sushi rice, not hard or overly compacted. This restaurant is a new local favourite for me!

Good Japanese food. Love it. Not a lot of tables so may need to wait to dine in. Friendly staff, will go again

This is the place to go for high quality, consistent, Japanese comfort food.

Extremely friendly staff, great vibe, perfect food, what more can you ask for.

My favourites are the chirashi and katsu curry, fresh sashimi, seaweed on rice, curry with the perfect balance between sweet and salty.

Overall, just a great local Japanese restaurant in Knox.

Probably the best Japanese food in the area. Great bento (all of them, fish, katsu, teriyaki), donburi, curry, everything.

But.too popular. Sometimes they don't (?) pick up the phone - must be busy in the restaurant, before I had some times where the food wasn't prepared by the time I got there yet. Will keep trying in less busy times then.

Incredible homely Japanese food. Best I've had on this side of town! My new favourite restaurant =D
