Mugen Ramen reviews
78Stopped by on a Friday night with two friends, the staff very were friendly, helped us with our order and accommodating to our needs. The dipping ramen is my absolute favourite way to eat ramen and I wish I lived closer so I could have it all the time. It’s a tight space but it echos Japan’s ramen scene and feels genuine. Highly recommend!
Not too bad.
I’m a person who like tonkotsu ramen only but it was fine. Their noodle was good. Tsukune was also tasty.
All the Japanese staffs were super friendly.
Best tsukemen ramen in Melboure. Brings me right back to Osaka when I dine here, to a little 8 seater tsukemen restaurant that was simply delicious! The restaurant is quite small so I recommend booking ahead before dining here.
Thank you Mugen for the delicious meal!
I love it when you use dashi rather than MSG for seasoning. I also very much appreciate your excellent service.
Mei is kind and considerate and I had a wonderful time.
If you like tsukemen, the dipping ramen, this place does it really well.
The wafu tsukemen is the popular choice here.
The Japanese tapas are pretty good too.
It's best to book for a table here since it can be pretty crowded.
Overall it's highly recommended.
Favourite ramen place in the city, and their dipping ramen never disappoints (particularly the curry tsukemen)! Good drinks and service too, all round solid place
One of my most favourite ramen places in the CBD!
Easy to grab a table. Bookings are recommended but staff are always happy to accomodate walk-ins. I've never had to wait long a table.
Beautiful atmosphere. Japanese artwork and films playing on the wall via a projector. I love the ambience.
Ramen is delicious and affordable.
Very quick service, friendly staff.
Terrible service. Waited an hour to order then to be told we had to pay for our food when we ordered. Another hour later our food had not arrived, when I asked for our meal the waitress advised she had forgotten to send my order to the kitchen. Worst experience and dining experience
After being in Melbourne for a few months, I delayed on making a visit to Mugen Ramen as I wanted to knock some other restaurants out first. This turned out to be one of the most regrettable decisions I made while living there. Mugen Ramen is king in Melbourne and their tsukemen is what takes the crown.
For the love of God, why did I wait until the end of my stay? This bowl was superb in every way.
The noodles - the texture, stretch-level, absorption rate, flavor, and the amount is was cooked at were exactly what one should get when eating tsukemem. It was fun just to lift the noodles from the plate.
Pork - Clean, marinated, and cooked to excellence.
Broth - the wafu broth was absolutely delicious. I still remember the taste and aroma after a year later. It was balanced so well in flavor and just thicc enough!
This bowl was consumed way too fast. I couldn’t stop eating it. Not a single drop or both or a single noodle was wasted.
Mugen took the prize of best tsukemen in Australia and my most memorable bowl there by far. Highly recommended 10/10.
Left Mugen on an empty stomach last night after waiting for food on reserved table for more than 2 hours. Website indicated veggie options but got there and waitstaff said they no longer provide that option and made no attempt to check with the chef if they can accommodate veg request. Reluctantly I ordered a fish dish tapas style. Everyone else had finished their ramen and my fish hasn't arrived. When followed up we were informed that the chef FORGOT to turn on the oven and have to now wait for the fish to cook. When the fish finally arrived it was clearly overcooked with no sides whatsoever so I had to order one white rice. 10 mins past again we followed up for the rice the waiter said she doesn't know how long the rice wil take because the docket is 'end of the queue'. Another 10 mins past I had to cancel the rice order because the fish gone cold. I don't understand how the kitchen can screwed up my fish order and didn't care to look apologetic and just serve me one bowl of rice you can just scoop from the rice cooker in 5 seconds. No compensation offered and we had to pay $20 to takeaway the cold overcooked fish with no rice. Thanks for providing such a memorable first night out post lockdown.
The Japanese waitresses are always really nice. The owner Victor and his business partner have built an authentic and exceptional ramen joint with the Tsukemen being the speciality. They serve great sake as well.
Great tasty sauce with chewy ramen but double check your order when you pick up. We ordered two tsukemen a week ago for pick up, with fresh noodles. The person at the counter assured us that the order was correct, however upon reaching home, we found out there was only ramen and dipping sauce. No charsiu or bamboo shoots or seaweed, it was just plain noodles and the ramen sauce.
It's one of those adventurous decision: walked through an alley way and chose this spot! Very glad I did! A funky two-stories eatery that gives you the feeling you're in downtown Tokyo. Good selection of ramen, and they're quite different from the usual ones I found in Perth. There are also other items, like Kaarage and rice. Good portioned, allowing you to upgrade to bigger bowl, and affordable. Service was quick, which I appreciate. Staff were friendly and welcoming. Worth the visit!
I liked ramen noodle. They use special noodle which i have not try other ramen shop. However, Bonito flavoured too strong in broth and dashi for me.
Tried the goma tsukemen and the wafu tsukemen. Both very delicious and light. The wagyu steak paired with the yuzu ponzu sauce is phenomenal. Close your eyes when you try it.
Bad experience, service was rude. I ordered a seafood salad as the menu stated the first ingredients was soft shell crab, the food was served without soft shell crab as they run out of stock and they didn't notice you until you asked them they said they would give you half price. My point is not about the price, but the customer service and experience
Not an easy place to find but worth the effort finding it. Cool interior that is synonymous with things Japanese.
Had chicken nanban don for lunch. There was no one but me at the restaurant, almost closing time for lunch, but a waitress insisted to sit at the bar. Order came chicken nanban itself at first by mistake and then I could get right one after. Miso soup was very bland and side salad came out one big leaf. Nothing but just one huge green leaf. Kitchen should be bothered to cut stem. Chicken was fair. $17 is definitely overpriced for rice, sauce and 5 pcs of chickens.
The ramen disappointed me a little.
The Char siu should has more fat to improve the tasting.
Gyoza is okay.
Overall it’s a place for have some foods before/after drink.
Don’t have a high expectation for the foods.
WATCH THE STAIRS!
I sprained my ankle because there is no light for the stairs.
Won’t be there ever again.
It was okay. Had the wafu tsukemen. The tsukemen broth was watery and the noodles weren't that thick or chewy. Also find it hard to grab the noodles with wooden disposable chopsticks. It didn't quite live up to the price in terms of quantity or quality. And at these prices, having some decent reusable chopsticks should be standard and would be more environmentally friendly
