Mother Dough

We came here for a birthday dinner and had their version of a Hawaiian pizza, the seafood linguine and the fettuccine gorgonzola. The wood fire pizza was good, soft dough with just the right amount of sauce and cheese and generous with the ingredients. The linguine was good with again a very generous amount of fish, pippies and prawns. The fettuccine was too salty but that’s to be expected as gorgonzola cheese is saltier. This was balanced well with the texture of perfectly al dente pasta. The linguine was very well cooked al dente as well.

They did lose 1 star because the service could have been improved. When I asked about the fish special, the lady who served me just responded with “snapper”. I waited a few seconds and eventually realised she was done so I pressed her a bit more on how it was cooked and she responded with “with oil” and added some comment on the side it came with but her “with oil” comment caught me off guard so I didn’t catch what she said next. I think they either need to train their staff better or just write it up on the blackboard or on paper.

Ordered two pizzas to take away. Capricciosa and Margherita. Both impressive. Good flavours and made with quality produce. Bases were flavoursome - perhaps could have been crisper - which added to our enjoyment. Not cheap - but if the proof is in the eating, the absence of leftovers would tell the tale. Good stuff!

Great place for classic Italian food! Loved the wagyu & black angus ragu and the pizzas! Gluten free friendly (the best gluten free pasta I've had). Excellent service and friendly staff - 10/10

My partner & I went for dinner & were caught by the opportunity to attend one of their new pasta making classes held every 3 Sunday. Geoff & Ally we’re absolutely wonderful!
They accommodated our desire to learn gnocchi which wasn’t part of the class schedule, fun, engaging, insightful but overall a great way to spend a Sunday afternoon. Highly recommend the cooking class & dinner at any opportunity as this place is a gem!

I found this place just by accident and I got a Campagnola, which ended up being my best pizza experience in Melbourne. This has been the best pizza, since I arrived here from Italy: beautiful base with delicious and fresh toppings enriched with rosemary and sage flavour. Not just a focaccia with some veggies. Strongly recommended. Also very nice and lovely staff.

I was waiting for more than 2 months to try the gnnochi Al forno. Unfortunately, when I finally had the chance to try it, it was out of my expectations. The gnnochi was still raw. Also it looked like instead of bring baked gnocchi it was only poached and topped up with napolitan sauce and parmesan. I believe I have had better gnnochis at my place. The sauce wasn't great either and the price for this was $28 which I don't think is worth the money. The service was good thought and the place is cozy.

Our favourite go to. Fresh and tasty ingredients and great service. Can't beat the seafood hotpot! After trying almost all the different pizzas and pastas, it always comes down to the tough choice of buffalina pizza or baked gnocchi.both so good!

Delicious wholesome food. We still keep coming back even after moving to a different suburb, it's our favourite restaurant. Great service too, professional but also warm.

Highly recommend trying all the ragu options by the way.

This small family run Italian restaurant is a treasure in the heart of Hawthorn. Beautiful handmade pastas, woodfired pizzas and great range of Italian wines make this perfect for families or couples looking for authentic food in a relaxed atmosphere.

Incredible dining experience. Food was amazing, portion sizes were very large, and very decently priced. Service was perfect. Will definitely be going back.

Edit: ordered during covid isolation through Uber Eats, and the experience is still amazing. Highly recommend:)

24 February 2021: Fabulous restaurant serving authentic & delicious salad, pizza & pasta dishes. Jeff and Elly are absolute geniuses. Do drop in if you are in the neighbourhood. You won't be disappointed. Highly recommended.

Easily the best wood fired pizza in the area (I've tried so so many in the last few years of living in the area). Plenty of variety between red and white sauce pies. Their Margherita is one of the best I've ever had. The owner is very friendly and has no problems tweaking a menu item to suit your taste. Would recommend Mother Dough over any other wood fired joint in all of Kew, Hawthorn, and Richmond. Great for dine in and takeaway.

It was quite tasty, but the pizza i ordered was meant to be with fior di latte but tasted like ricotta.

Cosy place, friendly staff and the dough is just perfect and it was so easy to digest.ate a whole calzone by myself:)

Agree with the previous review! I mean $30 off for a bill worth over $200 and we got blamed for writing the voucher? Pathetic

Amazing pizza. They make pizza the way it should be made. You can tell that it’s authentic and natural compared to what’s out there. Fantastic too!

Had a voucher given to us from management as a good will gesture. Went to use voucher towards payment next time we went and they tell us they didn't issue the voucher so its not valid.
Where else do they think we got the voucher from? What did they think we sit at home and make counterfeit vouchers for $30? If I was going to try something like that I would have at least made it worth my while. Poor form won't be making the mistake of going there again.

Ordered the take away main dish of spaghetti & meatballs. Received a total of 2 meatballs in the dish and was charged $30 for this. Called to confirm that this was correct, i was told that it was! Way over priced
