Moshi Moshi Japanese Restaurant reviews
53Amazing Japanese food in South Melbourne. Definitely an address not to miss for all the Sushi lovers.
Food is great - but they use so much plastic in your take away. I can’t order again from here, because of the waste.
Please change to compostable packaging and use paper bags at least!
Not impressed, tasted more like a food court japanese shop then restaurant quality. Not fresh.
Really enjoy the clean and chill vibe over here. Server were nice and sweet, and gentle. Ordered Mixed assorted sushi taste pretty good, definitely bite size for that sushi. Also had the agedashi tofu. Slightly bland a little, tofu aren’t crispy. Pork dumpling are juicy, grilled Eggplant and zucchini was alright. Lastly we have the pork belly. It’s pretty tender and melt in the mouth. Sauce was a little too thick, or it will go with the rice perfectly!
Very presentable place
Food was excellent
Wondering why is not busier
Will have to try again soon
A good restaurant for the area. Decent Japanese fare, but service can be slow and haphazard. Food is your average Japanese neighbourhood quality.
Food was yummy but just stay away from fried chicken and fried soft shell crab as I found them too oily and heavy. But overall it was a good Japanese food.
Stumbled across Moshi Moshi & were surprised. We got there late on a Friday night with not much time before the kitchen closed. We called in to make sure it was ok. We were seated, ordered and had finished eating within 40mins. Maybe looking at the menu before we arrived helped.
Ample parking due to its location which is a bit ️
Quality and presentation of food was sensational.
The staff were pleasant. Given after Covid and the staffing issues we face the restaurant did well to cater for its customers. Highly recommend the soft shell crab roll &
Sashimi salad.
Overall a very good experience.
Fitted us in last moment. Allowed amendments to the menu - couldn’t have been more helpful - 5 stars
Ate here years ago and it was Fabulous.
Dined here last night and it was horrible.
I’ve been to Japan multiple times, I don’t expect a recreation.
This place is very far off the mark.
Had the tempura which was vile half of it was salmon pieces. In a batter that isn’t even close to tempura four prawns a few beans and two pumpkin pieces.
Gyoza had to be store bought frozen and cooked in store.
Staff standing around chatting.
Sorry you need to lift you game, glad we only ordered four items.
People avoid this place even the owner’s response’s to negative feedback is lazy.
Excellent menu which catered so well to pur vegan guests. Restaurant was booked solid but staff maintained wonderful composure and excellent service throughout. Standout dishes: Agedashi tofu, zucchini and eggplant dengaku, pork gyoza and a delicious seaweed tofu salad.
This restaurant was once great. We dined regularly for years and were never disappointed. To say things have changed would be a gross understatement. I would prefer to happy clap with Scomo at his moronic singy church than repeat last night's atrocity. The waiting staff were all on their first ever shift in hospitality, I'm guessing, and had recently had personality bypass operations. There WAS someone in the kitchen, but he certainly wasn't cooking or preparing. His job was to peel the cling-wrap off of the entrees that had been prepared yesterday and placed in a blast freezer. On asking for oysters: ' are they freshly shucked? ' (as they claim in writing on menu). 'Yes, they were done this morning'. Christ on a bike, why did I not exit this Earthly version of Hades there and then. 'Where are the oysters from? ' 'Ummm, I think, ummm, the market'.
Am I on Candid Camera?
The food wasn't inedible, it was just 'nothing'. So cold and gluey as to be totally tasteless. There wasn't any background music at all, not even the standard, painful Ministry Of Sound Sunday Sessions.
Whilst I'd like to give them another chance, I simply can't see ANY way they could improve. There were 6 people in the restaurant a week before Xmas. Hopefully they were all off a cruise ship, thus easily pleased.
Fail. Utterly appalling.
#1.
Everything of highest quality and DELICIOUS! Especially beef tataki, my fav. They moved up the road, wherever they go, I go.
Quaint restaurant with tasty Japanese food. Was served quickly and had good portion sizes to share.
Keep coming back! I wanted to leave a review, and realised that I’ve done that already in the past. Simply BEST Japanese food in Melbourne!
Delicious! GREAT SERVICE!
Ordered here during lockdown so we had takeaway. We were disappointed and unsatisfied with the food, the portions provided and lack of presentation considering the price. $32 for a few pieces of raw fish on rice, would have been better to go to Sushi Sushi. There are plenty of other places more worth your time and money.
Cosy little place that provides high quality Japanese food and drinks. Extended wine list is well worth a look. Smart casual dining or great for take away. Loved it.
Fraudsters. Cancelled my Fork booking even though I spent $50 in their restaurant and left them a tip!
Came during dinner time on a weekday and plenty of seats available. The food for most part are average. Chicken katsu was juicy and the wagyu Tataki sauce was refreshing but the meat isn't as tender as I imagined. The Gyoza was plain and the seafood Hotpot tasted like korean spicy soup.

Food 3.5 stars. Service 3.5 stars, ambience 2 stars.
It might be the new reality for Melbourne restaurants that they do more delivery than dine-in however the mood of eating at Moshi Moshi is killed by the constant uber eats drivers coming and going. The other thing about Moshi Moshi is it kinda feels more like a western style bistro than anything oriental. Served quickly and pleasant enough, just didn't feel all that welcome. If you want informal japanese meal this is pretty good value and seafood was good quality.
