Montania Cafe - Bar - Restaurant

If it was just one thing, it would have been four stars. Unfortunately when it is 3 things it knocks the cafe down to two stars. However, maybe these three things will be fixed by your next visit.

1) Hot Chocolates are inconsistent - Not a big deal, I know. But when you go there the first time and the hot choc was awesome and the second it is pretty average, I guess you want it like the first time.

2) Charged for a swap - I know lots of places do this, but the good ones do not. In this case I asked if it was ok to make a swap, they said yes. So I assumed they would not charge me. If they said they were going to charge $5 for the swap, I would have said no, just minus then. Still not a great outcome, but still better than trying to hide it from us.

3) Prices are quite high - This is fine if the service and food reflects this or if the location is premium. Unfortunately none of the above. I'm all for charging high prices, but then service and food must match it. Otherwise you're pretending to be up market when you aren't. Still, the food/ambience would be classed as great if it was in a very picturesque place or/and if it cost 25% less.

Your experience may be a lot better than mine, so feel free to rate them high or low depending on how you go. However, I still say that if you are going to charge higher prices, then you need to also be consistent so that 99% of the time everyone loves the food and service.

Montanias Has to be one of my long time faves for the very warm and welcoming atmosphere and over all experience!

Shoutout to mike for making our night fun with taking our Polaroids for their special “Polaroid cocktail” he is a natural.
Shoutout to sash for her warm and welcoming smile & nature offering me a cocktail “to get the party started” when I rocked up alone.
Shoutout to the bar staff for their incredibly delicious prompt cocktails - strawberry daiquiri or espresso every time
And shoutout to the kitchen chefs - the seafood marinara linguine was the best thing I’ve ever eaten! Was like an exploration.
Well done guys keep the hard work up!

Always enjoy the ambience and great service at Montania restaurant. The food is high quality and plated with care.

Staff are just wonderful, friendly efficient and joy to interact with. Good and coffee great atmosphere joyful now suns out sitting outside is so relaxing. Didn’t take photos of diners for privacy reasons. Heaters as well.
Also they donate bread to the op shop next door to give for free

Very nice food, good variety with vegan and gluten free options. Friendly staff. Great range of good and very nice, with a large price range to suit your budget.

Beautiful food. I had the Greek salad with lamb that was divine! I highly recommend the red velvet churros OM gosh delight!

I think it's a great restaurant. All the staffs were very nice and helpful! The place was clean and maintained a healthy environment. Must recommend my friends. I am looking to go again. Thank you.

I come here all the time and i love this place, not only is the food lovely, the decor is good and the staff are lovely

The food here is amazing, matched by service that is friendly and attentive. Our group of 4 enjoyed the arancini (the baked kale topping is delish) and the tacos is reminiscent of the tacos we had in LA. It is top notch! Then we had their special of the day which is Beef Ragu (nonna approved), calamari fritti (freshly made and coating is crisp and not overly done that the calamari itself sings) and the linguine marinara. Then of course, we made sure we had room for dessert! The lemon meringue has got the right amount of smack in your lips tang and the red velvet churros was a stand out. All servings were generous and the taste is fabulous. This is a gem in Ferntree Gully that is sure to impress the most selective of palates. Will recommend this resto to family and friends!

The Sunday morning coffee experience was not great. We waited more than 35mins for two coffees. The coffee was average and tasted too milky.

Delishious fresh tasty food. Its the place I go to for breakky lunch dinner when ever I'm in the area.
Eat inside unless you want other people's dogs urinating on the furniture whilst you are eating

What a lovely cafe! Had the funghi pizza - it was amazing. Lovely truffle mayo on top. Very pleasant seating outdoors and in. Attentive service. It was the busiest cafe in Mountain Gate - always a good sign!

Absolutely delicious food and wonderful service. Prices are a little high but well worth it. The risotto is highly recommended and so is the breakfast menu. The level of patronage, even on a Sunday, is high which speaks to the popularity of the venue. They even have a couple of items on the menu for your dog! I have been twice and will definitely be back.

Food was absolutely amazing, all staff were friendly, but our waitress for the night Glicka was outstanding. Nothing was to much trouble, I along with the others I dined with will definitely be back.

Very warm and friendly atmosphere with lovely food. All the staff were extremely pleasant and the food came without a hitch — tasted amazing and unique. Thoroughly enjoyed our night and love the setup of the tables (especially upstairs). Would recommend a visit.

This was our first time there for our Xmas lunch and the service was good and the meals were delicious will return

I ordered the big breakfast. First and foremost it's not a big breakfast for the money. The biggest letdown was the eggs. I ordered scrambled. They were tasteless, rubbery, and dry. The worst scrambled eggs I've ever had. I will not return.

My family had a great dining experience in Montania. The food was tasty. I love my Honey Pumpkin and Chicken Risotto and the Peanut Butter Fudge for dessert. The staff were also very friendly. I will definitely be coming back.
