MERRICKS GENERAL WINE STORE reviews
70Recently had lunch here with a group for a friends 30th birthday - thoroughly enjoyed ourselves! Delicious food & wine and AMAZING service! Best I’ve experienced in years. Everyone was so friendly and the attention to detail we received from our server (think is name was Jordie) was next level and very much appreciated. Will be returning soon for sure!
Wow wow, this place is incredible, such a beautiful setting beachside and completely relaxing, food is fantastic quality and delightful. We had the Salumi platter and the cheese platter absolutely delicious and enough for two. But l have to say the service here is exceptional and l mean it, really terrific customer service by all, will be back here many more times am sure of that!
Delicious late lunch (really an early dinner because we had dessert too) after a wet start to the day.
Excellent service.
Well, try to support local businesses on the Mornington Peninsula? Be warned this cafe slash restaurant isn’t one to recommend to your friends. We had a booking for 7 people, the service was shocking and they forgot our order of coffee firstly? Then the mains came, well the eggs Benedict was so over cooked the muffin halfs were like cardboard and dry. The bacon had been precooked and dry, then the other mains the chef had forgotten the bacon, what a circus. The coffee came after our mains, we ask the so called waiter, Jordan, Jordie is the coffee coming, his reply was abruptly answered, well if you order your coffee it’s coming, and walked off? This place is over rated if your after great food and service, give it a miss, to think there are much better places to spent our money, As they say money doesn’t breed manners? Very displeased local? This so called waiter Jordie also delivered one coffee to one of the ladies who was sitting at the furthest end of the table and said who is this for knowing she was at the other end of the table, and just left it sitting there, before walking off, this guy needs some training in service?
Was really disappointed with the service and the food today. From the ordering of the coffee which was totally forgotten about to the actual food it’s self, just shocking, normally a great place but clearly something is quite off, the service person who attended our table was just plain rude and really should not be in a customer facing environment, shame really as it used to be enjoyable.
You can drop a pretty penny at some of the region’s more famous restaurants but if you do, you’re missing out. Merricks General Store is by far the best place to have lunch on the Peninsula. We cannot bring ourselves to eat anywhere else now. The food is always delicious, but it’s the service which sets this place apart. You feel welcome and looked after here. We always leave laughing and fulfilled. A really special place to try local wines and just settle in for a great experience.
We visited here a few months ago and had a beautiful experience. Great atmosphere and the staff were lovely. I had a pasta dish and my partner had the duck and they were some of the best meals we’ve ever had. Such fresh ingredients, simple but elevated in creative ways. The wine is delicious and tempted us enough to buy a couple of bottles to take home with us. Would highly recommend!
We had lunch today with our two young kids and the service was outstanding. The staff were so friendly and helpful and the food and wine was excellent. We will be back again soon. Highly recommended!
We love Merricks General Wine Store - first as a wedding venue, and second as a restaurant and store. In terms of a space for a beautiful country wedding, it's the complete package! Beautiful food and lovely wines, in a charming heritage building on the Mornington Peninsula. An intimate ceremony in the garden and dinner in the restaurant (especially in winter, with the roaring fire going) doesn't get more cosy and special! Highly recommend MGWS if this sounds like your dream wedding!
This review is only for the takeaway window as we didn’t dine in. We arrived at 11: 30 am and were told that they are in between service (breakfast-lunch) so no food is served. We were however told we could grab a bite at their takeaway window which we did. We got egg and bacon roll and sat on the seats out in the back garden. They were delicious for a quick fix. On our way out, we took away a slice of carrot cake from the indoor cafe that was delicious.
There is also an art gallery where you can buy arts which I’m not sure if it’s temporary or permanent.
I don’t necessarily agree with stopping the food service on a weekend, at a popular tourist destination, at a time when people usually have brunch; but who am I to decide.
Great vibe, beaut combination of the things you want.great coffee's in the sunny backyard, formal dining or some wine tastings from the locals
Lovely relaxed wine and cheese on veranda. Staff friendly and helpful. We came at quiet time so assume it would get busy weekends.
We were served by a young blonde girl and she was really friendly. Service was excellent and wrote a cute note on the takeaway bag for our mates birthday. 10/10 deserves a raise
Great wine store / restaurant / cafe - incredibly busy when we visited on the long weekend but the staff were friendly and the food was delicious
Our first visit there was at the weekend, the (free) tasting bar was so crowded you couldn’t see the barman. So we went back late on a Friday afternoon and had it all to ourselves. We sampled a full range of local wines each accompanied by a detailed description. Very enjoyable way to spend an hour.
The staff who has lack of common sense and racism ruined our weekend absolutely. They should hire quality staff for their reputation.
This General Store has everything you could ever want. Everything is clearly displayed well the staff are extremely friendly and the food is beautiful. You can have a wine tasting here, buy bottles of wine should you wish, but there is no obligation to buy if you have a wine tasting. Set beautiful land with lots of different areas to sit inside or outside
Great selection of wines for tasting especially if you like Chardonnay or Pinot.
The lunch menu is good, the grazing platters likewise and the atmosphere is friendly. Great spot but does get very busy on the weekend. Recommend booking ahead
Very good venue showcasing wines of the region and an excellent restaurant. Can get very busy on weekends and public holidays, be sure to book. Staff are very helpful. Stop for coffee and cake or a full luncheon.
Good coffee and scrambled eggs. A nice ambience with friendly and fast service. A good selection of local produce is a available too. Recommended for a coffee and food stop. Very popular.
