Memorial Arch at Eastern View reviews
38 A place to take proof photos
no toilet
There is a beach next to it, so swimming seems possible.
Nothing special except the entrance.
This is now the 4th iteration of the Arch. There's parking nearby for the famed photo moment. This memorial was to commemorate the efforts of returned veterans who played a big role in connecting the small towns along the coast. There are specially designed photo spots near the highway to get the best view of the arch without endangering yourself. Information boards and signage trek you the history of the place.
I never realised that you could pull over into a parking bay here. I would imagine it would be busy when tourists are out and about, so it was nice to take the opportunity while it was quiet.
Beautiful monument to diggers who created the Great Ocean Road. Also don't miss the unspoiled beach from the parking area.
The entire great Ocean road is breathtaking and The towns around are do beautiful. Lorne is amazing. I really wish I had that life around beautiful waves, weather and food!
Great photo opportunity to start a great Ocean road driving trip, and learn a lot about the history of the building of this iconic road!
An interesting insight into the building of the great Ocean and the sacrifices made to produce such a incredible scenic dry. Beware of the rather windy roads and getting stuck behind overly cautious drivers
The official starting point of the Great Ocean Road.this place provides the perfect photo opportunity and like other photos and comments, details the huge Importance and impact that the construction of GOR had and provided to coastal townships.
My Chow enjoys here' plenty of salmon to be caught ' salmon fillets for Dinner ' i worry beach slowly eroding away'funa disappearing into sea. Brilliant place to be.
I drive under this every single day. It's really great to not have to dodge tourists in the middle of the road trying to get their shot for the gram or cars pulling out on the wrong side of the road. An upside of lockdown.
A fine tribute to our Returned Service members. Always great full for their sacrifice to enable us to live freely in this beautiful country - AUSTRALIA
Good information available and photo opportunities. However no caravan parking. Considering the amount of caravans - we parked on the side of the road forcing our kids to get out of the car onto the busy road.
I always make sure I stop at Memorial Arch on the way down the Great Ocean road. It is a great photo spot and it also gives you some information on why and when the Great Ocean road was built. There is a car park to park in and also some platforms to stand on to get the perfect shot.
Pit stop for a leg stretch. Would be better if there was a lab and marked photo spots. Can be quite dangerous with some standing in the middle of the road for a snap
Busy. Poignant story. Well worth a visit and reading up a little before you visit. The gateway to some of the most breathtaking coastal and inland scenery. Have driven around Chapman's peak drive. Cape Town. Table Mountain with its own 12 apostles. They compare well.
Historical site to memorise the contribution of the honourable soldiers of Australia in WWII. The arch was demolish & re-build for four times.
There are three wooden platforms offering different perspectives of the atch well off the road so you can take that Instagram worthy photo without getting yourself killed on the road.
A tribute to the ancestors who built the great ocean road
Many must have lost their lives in giving it the present form
Lovely to watch. On a pension I certainly couldn't afford to buy even though the pieces on display were beautiful and I was very tempted.
The arch kick starts the Great Ocean Road. Not forgetting, it also marks the start of the largest museum. Do pop by here to take a photo and also learn abit more about the history of Great Ocean Road. Saw some people risking it to take photos in the middle of the road. Not worth the risk.
