Melbourne Cup Carnival

For every 1000 horses that are bred for the purpose of racing, 0.6% of them will die on a racetrack. For every 1000 cattle that are bred for human consumption, 100% of them will die in a slaughterhouse.
Unless you are a vegetarian/vegan, you have no place entering the "animal cruelty" debate with anyone that makes a living from the horse racing industry, or attends a horse racing event.

This is a week that does not dissapoint.

AN event whether a racing enthauist or not, that must be on the bucket list.

Another Melbourne Cup & another dead racehorse. Time to ban this revolting "sport".

No class what so ever, drunks, drugs, rich bogans who don't even see the track ha! And pay $1000s.pack of stooges:)

Rainy day today, so good chance at least one horse will slip, break a leg, and be killed afterwards because that’s the “humane” thing to do. Most of the races will not be watched by the crowd, who are actually there to drink and dress up. Which is fine. Just why do horses need to be tortured to do so?

Cruel. Would like to see our gutless politicians tongue tied and ridden around while being whipped and see how they like it

Such a cruel industry. How many horses have to die before people realise they can have a good time without exploiting animals?

Still exploiting animals so people can get falling down drunk and waste all of their money. Sad. Look closer at what happens to the horses, don’t believe the propaganda.

We need to respect humans and animals. The horses are very sensitive and need our respect and their dignity. They need freedom and no whip.they need love and no stress. Imagine a world where animals and humans live in peace together and there are no races needed so the people feel good. I feel very very sorry for the horses. I wish no horse will get hurt or killed.

Anyone who engages themselves in this clear animal abuse must be vapid, selfish drunkards or brainwashed imbeciles. Melbourne cup, the animal abuse that stops a nation.

This is a Capitalist event, pretending to give people the chance to win Money while betting on slave animals and consuming copious amounts of alcohol. The only true winners from the Melbourne Cup are the Slave traders and major corporations.

Sad to think this is a part of Australian culture. It's cruel what they do to the horses, so many horses die because of this race. It's brutal and barbaric. It'd be nice if we stopped racing the horses and did something else.for those so concerned with the """fun""" of it.

I think they should widen the race to include other competitors (e.g. Cyclists, pantomime horses, solar cars etc)
