Melbourne Charcoal Chicken

When you walk and see $20min eftpos this is already a bad sign but I was hungry & ordered a chicken roll with coleslaw then I heard it being heated in the microwave and tryed started eating it was terrible bun over zapped chicken dry! Never Never coming back

The old lady who runs the business is quite possibly the rudest person I’ve ever talked to and would rather be mean and abusive rather than run a good business. My order came to $19.50 and she pointed to the $20 minimum eftpos. The chicken tastes like fish and the chicken rolls are soggy and microwaved. Will never come back again and strongly encourage everyone else to do the same.

The owner lady (the older one) who serves is absolutely rude and horrible.
The older lady I'm sure will die and be born as a chicken and will be roasted there!
They only accept cash if order is over $ 20, so i had cash 50 cents short and the older woman took back the food she already gave me! (just for 50 cents!) Mind you the shop was already closing and that was the last piece of chicken that was left!) I simply could not believe her attitude!

Best charcoal chicken in the south eastern suburbs. Chips are always freshly cooked and with plenty of chicken salt. Highly recommended anyone to order from here!

Very efficient operation. Service is quick. Prices are reasonable and fabulous chicken and chips. Also a great selection of salads and other sides.

Tasty, but the don’t accept card under $20. I’m happy with a surcharge but not accepting it means I have to buy at least 2-3 items, when I only ever want a chicken. It’s frustrating.

Appalling! Forcing cash usage during these times. Cash is unhygienic. Tried to purchase large chips and told min $20, no surcharge available. Have reported you.

Purchased $40 of food from them, and paid via card. Decided to add another chips ($8), and went to use my card they refused, pointing to their minimum $20 eftpos rule. Guess they had amnesia to the $40 purchase I had just made only seconds earlier. Lost me as a customer after patronising that store for so many years. Then the owner tried to play the 'they are the rules' line, like it's a Woolworths store simply following policy, even though she makes the rules.

Not happy, we have been buying dinners from here for years, only to be told that will only accept credit over $20 dollars, we wanted to pay buy by debit card, we are seniors did not ask for discount, don' t count on our business in the future

Family favourite for charcoal chicken. Food and service is always great here and chips are super tasty!

Charcoal Chicken was very appealing because the service was absolutely fantastic, the people there were so nice and friendly. I also loved it because the food was wonderful, the chicken was very well cooked and the chips were also well cooked and tasted amazing.

Chicken was OK but smelled a bit like canned tuna. Chips were undercooked, we asked for fresh chips cooked properly and the staff were rude. The woman threw the bag and said that we have to tell them we want the chips cooked longer (apparently customers in the area like undercooked chips?) when we received the chips, the bag wasn't a large anymore they had given us less, presumably for asking that the chips be cooked properly. Unprofessional and appalling customer service.

Great place especially for locals as they are a very nice family owned buisness who care about the customers, and the food is cooked amazing. Definitely recommend the chips.

I was concerned that the young girl that served me had extremely long painted nails when we know that painted nails in the service industry are a no no. Further her customer service could be improved on.

My burger tasted like it was cooked in the microwave and the bacon was pink. Dont get the burgers lol

Very good choice in the local area but I made the mistake of going at a very busy time of day.and things were a bit hectic and the shop gets a bit claustrophobic! Disappointing they haven’t partnered with Uber eats or Menulog.

The chicken is super delicious and they have well flavoured chips to go with it too. You get a good quantity of chips especially if you get the deals and offers that they have. It's all value for money.
In the deals, you have an option to get salad and there are a few choices available. The Greek salad is the most popular one. Their salad is good but not the best but at least you have that option if you want to be healthy.
I haven't tried anything else here. They do offer noodles, rice, dim sims (size of South Melbourne ones) but everyone comes here for the chicken. The service is generally efficient and friendly.
Seating is available if you wanted to eat in rather than take away. There's an option for you to sit outside if the weather permits.

Our family has been patronising this shop since it opened about 20 years ago and have never been disappointed. The food is reasonably priced, servings generous and the chicken and chips taste great, especially the chips - first rate.

Those that have given this place a "1 star review" are either too high maintenance or have no idea what charcoal chicken is.this place is an absolute delight! Been comin here for many many years! Never been disappointed! Those "1 star reviews" should be able to cook for themselves! #laionicachickenforever
