McKinnon Hotel reviews
69Table service was lovely. Atmosphere was really nice and you could have a conversation over dinner. Staff were very attentive. Would visit again!
The vibes of this place were immaculate! For a Friday night it was bustling, and super fun!
I went here for my birthday, and I put in a request for the pub to do something special for me, and there was nothing. So, I'm a little disappointed, because the request box on the online booking form has no purpose if that is the outcome. Other than one staff member saying happy birthday to me, there was nothing done.
The food menu was very extensive, and there were heaps of food options available for everyone, and catered to everyone's needs. The service was friendly and prompt, however the waiting time for the meals was a little longer than expected. In saying that, everyone's meals mainly came out at the same time which is something I can appreciate.
Overall food and drinks were lovely, other than the few criticisms, I enjoyed the night overall.
Asked for no onion and garlic on the fish and chips and got flat out told it was too hard. After some discussion of alternative options, the staff member confirmed it was probably easiest to alter and could be done by removing some items.
Kitchen staff then ignored the requests. My plate came out with pickled onions and another sauce
Disappointing that dietary requirements weren't taken a little more seriously
Great pub that’s bustling with people because they do great food and the ambience is perfect. The new deck means more lazy lunches!
We often eat here. It’s one of my husbands faves as he loves the steak here. My kids also enjoy it. I find the choices a bit limited. I’d like to see more seafood on the menu and some more modern dishes. I often struggle to choose a dish that’s not carb heavy here. Atmosphere is good and service always excellent. I would still recommend but need to alter menu more regularly
Called on Saturday night to ask to make a booking for the beer garden at 10pm. Was told they don't take bookings for the beer garden, but we should be okay to just walk in. When we got there, we were told by a server that was extremely rude to us that everything was closed and we cannot be seated anywhere. The hours on their front door say they are open untill 1am.
Great spot, really good, classy kinda pub food and fantastic service. Outside area is really nice and a good atmosphere in the front bar to watch the footy. I'm a new regular
Nice venue and ambience with very impressive staff/service. My one criticism is the severe lack (almost non-existence) of vegan options which is obviously personal to myself only and shouldn't deter others. Would recommend to non-vegan friends/family.
The layout of this place was great, and that’s where it stops. 35min wait for a glass of wine and the food was underwhelming and overpriced
We chose McKinnon Hotel for its accessibility for my frail, elderly mother but were blown away by the standard of food and the extraordinary service provided. We are coming back next month. Very impressed!
I'll give two stars for the service. Very professional. But the kitchen is taking the Mick! Ordered the fish of the day (King fish) received Salmon that was under seasoned and over cooked. Also ordered Oysters Kilpatrick as an entrée that arrived after the mains that were the smallest, saddest little things I have ever seen at $66. Not even an apology, explanation or compensation. Watch out.these guys are gouging!
I went with a group. I had Tiger prawns which were very messy to eat and not much meat. Looking at my friends' meals the serves didn't seem very generous and the fish and chips were disappointing.
Just moved into the area and decided to have a beer and steak.
Great decision, welcoming atmosphere and gorgeous food. Steak was perfect. Highly recommended oh the the Great Northern was chilled and sparkling. Excellent customer service
I write this review with a real sense of sadness after a real shame of an evening here. We attended an event that was very important to the organisers, who have extremely limited funds and wanted to provide a lovely evening for everyone. Instead, they were met with faces of very hungry people, who were frustrated and very let down. For $60 a head for 2 courses, it was certainly expected that there would be adequate food and service and that people would be looked after. It was quite the opposite, with very underwhelming entrees to share plopped in the middle of the table with no service utensils, so people had to pass the plates around and use their hands to serve. This was not even close to the absolutely awful "mains" that followed, which consisted of a minute amount of very strangely coloured beef that was so undercooked we all expected it to moo at any time, and an equally tiny portion of chicken, all of which was put in the middle of the table with no serving utensils again (remembering we are in a post-covid environment), with no accompaniments. So as people stared in disbelief at the undeniably ludicrously small offerings, they were embarrassed to take anything to eat, knowing there was not even close to enough to go around. In any case, where on earth do you go where tiny portions of meat are dumped in the middle of the table, with nothing beside them? Long after the tiny and tasteless morsels were gone, a salad appeared, again, tiny, and then chips followed, which again were tiny. This special night was horribly let down by an incredibly poor lack of care and attention, and a complete sham in terms of catering. The discussion at the table turned from general happy talk to people planning where to eat when they left, both bitterly and with strong intent to never return to the McKinnon Hotel. This was an appalling theft of funds in everyone's opinion and a more overt rip off no one could imagine. A total and utter disgrace.
Very good food and love the oyster night. I had steak which was cooked perfectly but would have liked some more accompaniments - even just a few fries or some vegetables as the meal was a bit bare - only steak, and a little bit of salad garnish.
We love it, food is great, buzzy, apple turnover to die for for, staff are good but the music is a bit loud for us.
Looks good, staff are friendly, food is OK. But canned whipped cream on the deserts, what an insult, no decent chef would allow it. Terrible ending to a bistro meal. Get real!
The staff were lovely and friendly. However the atmosphere was somewhat lacking. We enjoyed our meal (a simple chicken parmigiana) but some meals came to the table simply raw. For the price that we paid, I would expect better quality food for all.
Great food. A little overpriced with renovation works happening all around. Be good when it's finished!
A convenient location with a large carpark. Large and spacious inside with a bistro and main bar. Food looks great. Wide selection of beers on tap. A beer garden is being built (March 2021).
Quite noisy inside due to concrete floor and lack of sound insulation.
