Such an amazing lunch. Simon was a rock star and gave the best wine recommendations to have with the meal

I have travelled the globe on business entertaining clients as part of my role with the company. I booked a for 4 for lunch and sat overlooking the vineyard toward Phillip Island and Bass Straight which blew my guests away with the stunning vista. Then the food arrived with companying wines and what could we say but amazing. This would have to be one of the best restaurants I have ever been to. The service was subtle but friendly and not interrupting our business lunch. Go there you will be surprised

Went as part of a truffle hunt and meal experience. The food was great. The vegan options were really appreciated.
There was a couple of large party bookings but our table service was exceptional. Well done Max's.

We, a table of 6, dined at Maxs on Sunday 30/08/23. The atmosphere on arrival was that of an old place with not much done to it lately. Initial service was fine, although a bit slow. We chose the 3 course menu with matched wines for an extra $50. Well the wine extra was a rip off. No explanation of the wine apart from the style. The pours were short and varied noticeably between each person. When this was mentioned I was ignored. When we ordered a bottle of wine our glasses were filled to the correct pour mark.

Food. My wife had the scallops as I did. Mine were good but my wife’s were still cold and watery, One even slid around on the pea purée. The other entrees were okay although the kingfish seemed very bland and and a bit cooked by the beetroot. The mains were average to say the least. The roast pork special was the hit of the day. The duck dish that two had was so dry it was almost inedible. There was no skin and a dribble of sauce. The panne cotta dessert was lovely, the apple crumble terrible and cheeses were cheeses. All in all a very disappointing experience.

When the bill came there was a review piece of paper which I filled out with this exact critique, hoping to hear from someone to discuss these issues, but there has been no contract. I also replied to an email asking about it be experience, but still no answer, hence this review. Never to return and would not recommend Maxs to anyone.

Such a fantastic experience! The staff went above and beyond, making the whole experience a magical one. The food was spectacular, as were the performers of the day (Opera) Hannah and Michelle. Highly recommend

Would have given 2.5 if I could and that’s mainly for the view and location.

Just had lunch here and was a special Mother’s Day limited menu. $99 for a 3 course meal and the best dish was the side of hand cut potato chips with a chilli Mayo. The oysters were terrible, I only ate 1 and left the others in the bowl. The steak tartare was average at best but I was looking for the salt. The fish main was ok, the pork belly was fatty and underwhelming, I don’t even know how to describe the dessert I was given. Kid options were fish and chips and chicken and chips and was very basic for the $45 price tag (included a choc top and drink)

Overall it was disappointing: service was ok, atmosphere was ok, food was below average especially given the premium price.

You are just as likely to get a better meal down the local pub for less money.

Do not recommend this restaurant at all. Food is flavourless and overpriced.paid $75 for two courses and a side of chips, the chips were the best part for $12. Lied to about the amount of entrees available and wait staff fished for compliments the whole time.

The children's menu is $35 for what claims to be chicken tenderloins and chips, a choc top and soft drink.what came out was a bowl of packet French fries and processed chicken. The waitress tried to tell me that it doesn't claim they're tenderloins when it clearly stated that on the menu. Also the choc top must have been years old because it was mainly ice inside.

The wine was lovely and views stunning. But the fact you have to pay for water is a joke. And also the waitress insisted on taking photos of our food when it was at the table. Don't waste your money.

Few weeks ago, we took our interstate friends to Max's for lunch we have been many times beautiful views and usually lovely food not this time! The steak we could not cut through, cream with chips not aoli also bad service, food brought to our table by mistake, we complained to the waitress who informed the Manager, we waited 15mins before he came over he was not concerned and reluctantly offered us a free glass of wine! He informed the kitchen about our steak and they said it was a bad piece of steak! We were very disappointed that nothing else was offered to us and we expressed our concerns to him with very little response! After 10mins he returned and offered us some cheese! Whole experience very unprofessional!

Extremely noisy uncontrolled group of 2 long tables including screaming patrons not controlled by staff. Could not talk to each other. Observed one couple leaving due to noise. We should have. Slow and inexperienced service. Started with menu that was missing page with food! 2 course lunch took over 2.5 hours. No apologies or offers of more wine or bread. Food sub-standard especially for cost. Cold rubbery potatoes obviously plated long before cold meat that was tasty but dry. No apologies for slow service. So disappointing for a restaurant that has such a lovely view and a high cost. There was a wedding that evening. I hope they had a better time and decent food.

What an absolute shambles!
Our special birthday lunch here was shamefully disappointing from the first 5 mins we entered the place. Drinks ordered had to be chased up and then incorrect. We arrived at 12 pm…. At 2.30 pm we got our entrees which were well presented but surely not worth a 2 hr wait. Drinks again missed!
We had to chase up lunch mains and got told we had been moved to the fast queue (we were the first to arrive)!
Half of our group decided to leave and that is when the mains started to appear. Far too late. Everyone was hungry, tired and exhausted from waiting, we decided to leave.
When owner was approached by us to express our disappointment he was very casual and appeared to have a non care attitude to our complaints. When told that we had a restaurant appraisals gentleman at our table, the owner told us we would not have to pay for anything. This was said to us as he was preparing drinks for another table, the owner could not even give his apologies or attention to us.
The waiter staff appeared to be out of their depths and at times spoke quite condescending to our group.
We were a table of 10 that the owner did not seem to care about losing out on not only the money we would bring in but also the bad recommendations we would spread to future business.
Very disappointing for family birthday!

Wonderful food great service and amazing atmosphere!

My partner and I arrived at Max's for a Thursday lunch and were greeted very kindly at the door. I requested to have a table overlooking the vineyard in my online booking, and was delighted to be taken to our table overlooking the entire vineyard and an ocean view! The kind waitress also gave us complimentary bread which was amazing!

My partner and I ordered 3 courses with appetisers. We began with the cauliflower croquettes for appetisers, which were light crispy and delicious. For entrees we ordered the kangaroo carpaccio - which was good, but we both found to be slightly lacking in flavour, and the seared scallops and tuna, which was absolutely incredible and tasted beautiful! For our mains we ordered the lamb shoulder and beef steak with a side of their chips and needless to say, everything here was perfect. The lamb was falling apart with my fork, and tasted amazing. The steak was cooked to a perfect medium-rare and had a wonderful complexity of flavours. The chips had a lovely crunch and the accompanying aoli was lovely too! Lastly for dessert, we both ordered the parfait of dark chocolate, which for me was a little bit too rich, however my partner loved it, and the combination of chocolate, salted caramel and berries worked very well together.

All-in-all a wonderful winery with a lovely selection of in house wines (I reccomed the shiraz), with beautiful food, service, and atmosphere.

I attended my best friends wedding at this venue and it was an absolute shambles behind the scenes.
I would never recommend a wedding here - unless it was just the ceremony which was beautiful. A restaurant like this is just not equipped to do a wedding. The staff were terrible, the so called event manager left before the reception even started. Can you imagine getting to your wedding day, the event planner was disturbing the bride on the day for things they needed which they should have asked for before the day and then leaves before it even starts.
The food was horrible, stale bread, poor timing, poor quality and staff just had no idea what they were doing in general. Again, no event manager to manage things at the reception.
My friend got charged extra 3 weeks before the wedding to have red hill estate wine at red hill estate, what a joke.
DO NOT WASTE YOUR MONEY HAVING YOUR WEDDING HERE!

I am not one to review a restaurant in a bad light.
Having attended a Mornington Peninsula Winery restaurant in 2021 of which could not be faulted and received a rating of 10, my party, of which included International Guests were so excited to attend Maxis restaurant at Red Hill Estate. Being a member of Red Hill Estates Wine Club, Max's was most definitely the restaurant to reserve and attend.
Booking was made for Thursday 8th December 2022 at 1.00pm.
Having being seated, waitress attended and explained the menu options. We opted for the 2 course menu of entrée and main course.
Wonderful start to the menu of our dining experience. All parties offered water prior to ordering. Later found to be not complimentary, but charged at a nominal fee.
Entrees were ordered by all parties.
All entrees were received promptly but were unfortunately below expectations.
Seared Scallops undercooked
Beetroot and Walnut Ravioli undercooked
Quail Dolmade presented wonderful but unfortunately dry.
On completion our waitress of whom could not be faulted in any way, attended to take orders for our main course. Main courses were ordered by all parties
This is where everything went downhill.
After viewing other diners of whom arrived later than our party receiving their entire meals it was time to question the staff.
Time duration between receiving main courses and entrees exceeded 1hour. Questions to the kitchen via our waitress, eventually confirmed that they had lost our order. Not good enough.
After our thoughts were relayed to the kitchen by our waitress our ordered meals promptly arrived of which were all overcooked and dry.
Many apologies were received from our waitress with the restaurant offering to deduct 1 round of drinks from our bill. Not really acceptable as all parties were not consuming alcohol.
When you consider that our cheque for the entire experience exceeded $400.00, obviously we were disappointed with the whole experience and hope that management will rectify.
Management were contacted via email, their reply suggested that this would be discussed at their next team meeting and hope we will reattend and give Max's another chance. No way would we ever reattend.

Lunch today was exquisite. Service was 10/10. Views spectacular. Excellent value for money. Your wine was lovely. Of particular excellence was the freshness of the oysters. Highly recommend.

Fantastic food, friendly, helpful, attentive staff. Beautiful views over Western Port and the Red Hill Estate vineyard. Lovely grounds which include outdoor dining in warmer weather. Great for that special occasion meal.

The positives were friendly staff and a very pleasant setting with a great view. However the negatives were, the prawn ravioli, the filling was dry and pasta crunchy on the edges. The salmon appeared insipid, lacked flavour and was a small portion. Fortunately I had ordered chips as a side dish. Apart from sauces and gels, meals such as lamb and salmon are not accompanied by any vegetables or similar. Finally we had to wait an hour between entree and the main course. Unfortunately it was a disappointment after the recommendation we had received from a family member.
