Matthew Flinders Hotel reviews
55Family friendly restaurant, play ground is awesome. Just a pity the Parma was some kind of manufactured chicken not real breast, tasted like rubber.
I stayed for a night, gotta say one of the best experiences I've had. Specially the pub, great service, great food and the pool table is great. I can sit down there and watch the cricket while eating the best burger in town. Great, deserves five stars.
From the dour expression on almost every server we came across to the lengthy black hair that was draped across my nasi goreng, I'm afraid my party of eight could not rate our experience higher than two stars. When alerted to the hair on my lunch when it was placed in front of me, the service woman just walked away. The only person who seemed happy to be at work today was the woman taking food orders at the counter.
I've looked at your recent reviews and my comments appear nothing new to you, as are you cut and pasted replies.
Service is poor, not very friendly staff, waited 1 hour for two kids meals, never came, was just given our money back, no apology, nothing. Bowling lanes always getting jammed up, missing pins. Etc
Good meals, good beer, good pokies. (Warning) Real bogans in the Sportsbar but don't worry if you don't stare at them they won't bite. Plus pool tables and TAB. I recommend the pepper steak?
I had the chicken parma. Portion sizing was large but everything was dry. The chips weren’t that great so most of it stayed on the plate. Not worth it for $24.
Had a 21'st there. The party food that was requested wasn't delivered, just average food and then the cake. Wouldn't go again.
Great family environment. Kids were disappointed the playground wasn't open due to Covid. Good affordable meals especially for a family of five.
We chose this venue because of the kids area and specified in our booking that we would like to sit close to the playground. Nothing on the website or in our booking confirmation indicated the closure of the playground due to covid restrictions so we were disappointed to see that nothing was available for the kids to play on upon our arrival. I had preconceptions that the food wouldn't be the greatest, but once again the play area was the draw card. Sure enough the pumpkin salad came with pumpkin the size of a closed fist and as hard as rocks.my sister had asked to substitute the goats cheese for vegan cheese (as she is a vegan) and the girl taking the order said "that won't taste good", when it ended up being the pumpkin that was inedible.
Not the Mathew Flinders I remember. Staffs body language suggested they did not want to be there, let alone their approach towards customers lacking the most simplistic and vital value in the hospitality industry requires a SMILE.
The food was less to be desired. You order fish and chips, the most simplistic order one could possible ask for only to get some type of fish in strips that smelt bad and tasted worse. I can go on and on, but I will simply say that I will not be going back.
We booked for a Saturday night two to three weeks ago for an early meal. I ordered the Half Lobster from the Specials board at $25.
It was inedible. The shell looked as if it had been grilled and parts were blackened. I don't know how the wait staff did not notice this. The lobster meat instead of being moist and tender was hard and impossible to lift out of the shell. I did return the lobster and the meal was noted by the chef. It was replaced by a Pasta Carbonara dish which was very nice but of a lesser value than the lobster. Very disappointing
Great place for the kids to play. The service was good but the food was way below average, they have the potential to cook really good food but unfortunately don't. Good place to have a drink.
Very bad food service, got. Told 45mins, after an hour got. Told again another 40mins, and again another 40mims, got a refund, alot of people. Waiting over 2hrs for food
Excellent service and awesome place to go with kids. Food is great. Kids are entertained while parents can have a drink and meal and chill. Will most def be back!
Good pub fare, playground is a plus for dining with kids, service could have been more attentive as it was a very quiet night when we went. Overall experience was positive, we will be back
Great place for a family dinner with kids. They love the arcade so keeps them engaged. Food was great, the garlic bread was fantastic! Weekdays are quiet.
Food was nice, had the nasi goreng and kids had nuggets and chips. Great play area for the kids, they had a ball running around. My biggest issue is the lack of staff. A large table next to ours was empty for about an hour and it wasn't cleaned. That's around 20 seats with empty plates, spilt drinks etc not cleaned. Also it took forever for someone to collect our empty dishes. I understand it's difficult to get staff at the moment but it affects the experience of those that attend the venue.
We were there for a party and enjoyed ourselves despite the mess around us.
Great meals during the week here down at Chatstone while in Victoria for work
Since everything has turned in to chopstick and eating by hand food in the eastern suburbs it fantastic to have western food on the plate for a change which does not trip from oil and overpower the environmental conditions with spices hard to get out of your clothing
I be here again on my next trip to Victoria from the food paradise South Australia
Thanks to the great staff as well!
This was my first time at this hotel. The food was nice BUT we had to wai an hour frm order to table
This is not good enough especially when under covid restrictions the restaurant was only half full.
Love it here. Great menu, quality food, reasonable prices and lovely service all round!
Definitely adding MFH to our rotation for weekly/fortnightly dining with friends and family!
Side note: Absolutely amazing facilities for the kids! Playground looks just as good if not better than it did 20 years ago when I was playing on it myself haha
Thanks guys!
