Matte Black

I had been looking for a good big breakfast for a while and Matte Black delivered. I will be back.

Coffee was luke warm and banana bread slice was so thin!

Still got 3 stars as the coffee did taste nice and the staff were friendly.

Amidst all of the other “brunch” places in the area, I would have to say that Matte Black is at the top of my favourites! The food was absolutely amazing and the staff are always the nicest people. It just has an amazing atmosphere and I will definitely be back for more:)

Recommended to me by locals and happy to report it was fantastic! Soy mocha was great, home made sausage roll was 10/10 and service was 11/10. Outdoor area in the back is super cozy and with gas heater is perfect place for cold winter mornings! I will be back.

Friendly staff, good coffee and delicious food. I tried the sucuk and pastirma omelette for the first time. I was absolutely impressed with it. Thank you so much

We had a family event, Excellent food! Great outdoor at the back.court yard. We had a dedicated serving person.such a gentleman and looked after a baby while the mother had her breakfast!

We had a large family breakfast (14 adults) in the back alfresco (garden) over the weekend and absolutely loved it. The staff were amazing, Matt made the booking process seamless and Sam (our waiter) went above and beyond to ensure we had a great morning.
We definitely feel the back area could hold some amazing gatherings.
My wife and I have quickly declared this our new favourite local. I recommend the pickpocket siracha.
Looking forward to our next visit Matt and crew.

Have had breakfast here a few times now, fantastic service. Staff are always welcoming and friendly. Food and coffee is great! Would recommend this cafe over the others in the area. Loved the experience, will be back more!

Possibly the worst coffe and least tasty food on the strip, with one of the best cafes in essendon less than a minute walk from here i know where i would go.

I love the courtyard area and our food arrived so quickly despite being busy. Thanks for the great service.

First time being to a cafe with the easing of restrictions and was not disappointed. Loved the vibe, and the food. Ugh the food and coffee was amazing. Great place to take someone on a date or catch up with great mates. The staff were so friendly and ensured my friends and I were well looked after, accommodating even for a nearby mother with her pram. We were blessed also with three free coffees from the manager I believe. Loved the experience. Thankyou so much

We had breakfast here this morning. The surroundings were lovely and bright and the food was delicious. I had the jackpot / one of the nicest breakfasts that I have had. My husband had a cooked breakfast and he could not fault it. The coffee was as ordered “ hot” not lukewarm as we have encountered lately. We will definitely go back.

Matt the business owner manages an excellent business. Its great to receive excellent customer service. Top quality food and beverages. Highly recommend.

We're not from the area, but know that Mt Alexander Rd boasts some amazing brunch spots. We were going to pick up something that was on order at DFO pre-COVID and we were just desperate for a good coffee and a good classic breakfast menu. Matte Black did not disappoint.

We were greeted with a friendly smile by an older guy who seated us. A young girl came out of the kitchen shortly after and smiled brightly at us and went to fetch the menus. We could see the chef cooking and he is obviously very passionate about his craft! Hangover burger is to die for, poached eggs are absolutely perfect and the sweet potato hash.yum!

It is a nice place to have your breakfast. It was my first time but I don’t think it will be my last. Convenient as close to my house and very nice staff.

This little Cafe is a perfect place to eat. Food was of an excellent standard and they were more than happy to cater for dietary requirements. Must visit.

Just a horrible service and how the manager (I assume the manager or even the owner) talks to his staff is appalling! Disgusted with that blokes actions to his younger staff. I wouldn't stand for it and left before II did anything!
