Matrioshka - Russian Restaurant

The owner were so rude, destroyed our night last night by shooting at us cause she was asking us to pay her cash. Food wasn't great for 85$ cost. Doesn't worth it, never again.

Very quiet. Not lively or buzzing. We had a work function at this venue. We were not told about a lot of important details. Such as it was completely BYO and cash only. Unfortunately the way the everything was dealt with was unprofessional and quite scary. The owner coming out and stopping the music to say she would be calling the police on us because we weren’t paying, which is completely false. Holding my boss in the kitchen not allowing her to feel safe with my other colleagues while we dealt with the issue, reducing her to tears. The photographer was an elderly man who kept forcing himself onto my team mates to get us to pay for our photos, $30 per photo mind you. The meals were small, good size for sharing, but NOT over $80 worth of food, entertainment and drinks. I would have been happy with paying mmmmm maybe $40 and I’m being polite. The singer and music played was fun after we had asked to actually play music but was too much for a venue that was only a third filled. The server was lovely also. Doing her job and polite.
Our experience last night was awful and I would highly suggest people wanting to visit. Maybe research a little more before choosing this as your next function venue.

Horrible experience on the New Year's party! The owner screamed like crazy, threw away the most beautiful singer, calling him bad names, who dedicated his years entertaining people on weekly basis, the food is awful! This restaurant need to be put down from now on

Thanks to the restaurant Matryoshka for New Year celebration! As always nice and tasty food, good music lots of fun and dancing. Love spending time and having dinner at Matryoshka with my family and friends always.

Authentic Russian food tasty and great service, there meat is tender and cooked well great place if your looking for different cuisine

Wonderful experience at this restaurant, certainly a very different vibe than your usual restaurant here. Weekend live singers, the Russian cuisine is amazing if different from a regular dish, you get up to two rounds of entree followed by mains. An experience everyone should enjoy at least once!

Great experience. Loved the atmosphere and the live entertainment. You guys made an awesome night for us. Will be back again.

Hard to find authentic Russian cuisine in Melbourne. If you want a taste of the culture and food, deffinetely recommend Matrioshka

Always amazing. Fantastic choice of cold platters awaits when you're seated at your reserved table.
As soon as you're seated the waiter makes sure you have everything, you're comfortable and he's at your arms length to serve and help. Music starts, singers sing and congratulate table by table every celebration.
Everyone is invited to dance, people start mingling on the dance floor and all of a sudden everyone becomes one celebration. Of course we sit back at our own tables, but feel as one. Mix of songs in Russian and English. Strap your heels, shine your shoes, get your sparkliest of frocks out and dance your night away with amazing staff and food. Night to remeber

Bad experience, we reserve last Saturday a table for 16 people. Unfortunately 4 people cancelled and Vitali charged the 16 even we were only 12 there. Also they were picking up everything kicking out us at 11 pm when is supposed to be open til 1 am.

Put your dancing shoes on! This place is the best! Can’t wait to go out and party at matrioshka! The food is really tasty! Thanks for all the great nights out!

Easily the best Russian restaurant in Melbourne. The food is amazing, the staff and hosts are warm and welcoming. The food is divine and prepared perfectly. There’s also great entertainment, singers & dancing. It’s festive and fun. A great place for family dinners and functions or a romantic evening. Thank you so much to our host Ella. I love everything about this place.

Awesome food, music and atmosphere. I loved it. Just putting it out there though, that the restrooms need a major overhaul.

Nice and fun place with live music! Russian food is pretty good however, they have some problems with pickles. When I was there the first time their pickled tomatoes were too bitter and the second time they were pretty good but cucumbers were bitter again.

Its a very good russian restaurant with good food, beautiful ambiance and live music on Saturdays. They have a large hall with a big dance floor. If you are a fan of big buffet style meal served to you then you can't go wrong with this restaurant especially on saturdays. But mind you guys they have a set menu, about which I haven't heard any complaints from any of my friends and relatives. The best thing is that they also cater to people with special meal requirements like vegetarian and allergies. You just have to notify them in advance about your meal requirements. Its a very good place for holding large parties because of ample space. They also have a Bar, huge parking space, good service and quality.

Great atmosphere and service but the food was ok. It wasn't traditional Russian cuisine and very westernized.
