Mao Please reviews
43We booked a table here for a special birthday party as they catered for dietary requirements. When we arrived we were given paper cups when everyone else was given plastic cups. Then to be told the rest of our party had to hurry up as we only had the table for 1 hour and some of our party was 10 mins late. The attitude from the wait staff was absolutely DISGUSTING. She gave us so much attitude. We were a party of 7 and they lost our business we walked out as we were told we only had 20 mins to eat as we took too long to order. DO NOT WASTE YOUR TIME GOING HERE. Birthday ruined.
Great range of gluten free and dairy free options. Have really missed being able to eat authentic Chinese food delicious and safe for coeliacs
A brilliant environment that showcases a varied and delicious menu. A complete gluten free menu which is full of good food. BYO alcohol which is supplemented by the bottle shop across the road. Super affordable and very generous portion sizes.
Mao Please is the only place in Melbourne I've found that has gluten free dumplings! They're a little expensive, but delicious.
My husband is celiac so hasn't had food like this in a long time, the gluten free menu was amazing and so delicious!
Queued up, finally got in and at 1.15pm told that at least 5 types of dumplings already sold out. Not good enough. Food ok. Mao, don't take bow.
We ordered spicy chilli oil dumplings and we were not expecting vinegar in it at all.
Well if it was just a little vinegar I would understand but trust me they were vinegar dumplings not chilli oil dumplings.
When asked this to a waitress and just raised a normal doubt she went furious and showed no customer service at all.
Then we all forgot about the taste of the dumplings but were surprised with this customer service.
Well it’s okay even if dumplings with a lot of vinegar are called chilli oil dumplings.there was one nice waitress in uniform who was actually concerned and told that she will take it off the bill.
But when I went to counter a lady named Jess showed me the bill and it included the dumplings when I just politely asked her that I thought these were not supposed to be charged she showed outrageous attitude and was literally shouting to me and was calling my girl friend ridiculous again and again for initially just complaining about some dish she did not like?
I did not said a word kept my cool paid the bill and asked her name.
No hate to anyone that’s why I left 4 star review.
But let’s just be friendly and good human beings and spread love.
I hope you guys understand specially you Jess. ️
All love x
Overpriced location, poor service
Small serving size, poor quality food
Came on a quiet evening to try a new gluten free restaurant, staff seemed annoyed to have a walk-in customer.
Not all the gluten free dumpling options were avaliable for order either
Ordered a bunch of amazing dumplings, forgot the juicy dumplings but was more than enough anyway.
I had sweet and sour chicken. My friend had Mongolian beef - lunch time specials during week. Both meals were excellent, serving size was good and reasonably priced. Service was great. We also had the Chinese tea which was refreshing and enjoyable. Would recommend.
Fantastic to have a gluten free menu including dumplings & soy sauce, also vegan versions of veg dishes available. We had dumplings, fried rice and mapo tofu. All pretty good and reasonably priced. You can BYO wine. I have a couple of favourite cheap & cheerful Chinese/dumpling places I adore where I think the food is a bit better, so four stars from me. However would happily go back? ? ?
The gluten free dumplings and noodles here are delicious! A great selection of fillings, gluten free soy sauce, and very friendly staff, thanks:)
Great food in Chinatown. Quick service and an excellent range of Gluten Free offerings. Excellent for families.
Booked online to be told that bookings where not recognised within 24 hours, food was actually really good once we made it in
The gluten-free dumplings didn’t make me miss the gluten ones. In fact the vegetables dumplings were amazing! This is now my new joint for dumplings. Also love their menu design, very simple and right on the money!
The GF pork dumplings were about the only thing that satisfied me. I ordered GF fried vegetable noodles. The noodles came with just spring onions, some salt and pepper. When I asked the servers whether there was a mistake they confirmed that what I had in front of me was indeed what I ordered. I asked where the vegetables were and go told that the few pieces of spring onions visible were the vegetables I paid for.
The normal vegetable dumplings came again with a filling that was predominantly spring onion.
Would not recommend at all.
Food only average. Food took awhile to be served.
Was only advised 'kitchen closing soon'. But they sent signal loud and clear to leave fifteen minutes after my food were delivered to the table.
Couldn't eat fast enough.
Asked for take away containers, and they wanted to charge 50 cents per box.
Instead of being understanding, the cashier was not a bit apologetic.
So great to have a huge range of gluten free options!
Most places have one or two mains, this place almost has a gluten free option FOR EVERY MAIN MEAL!
FINALLY somewhere with gluten free fried dumplings YUMMM!
We dined in one day, and uber eats ordered them the next.
Next time we are in Melbourne we will definitely be making a stop here for the fried pork dumplings again!
Food is ok. Best part for me was that the gluten free dumplings are safe for a Coeliac. Tables were a bit dirty even though I got there as they opened for dinner. Was an ok experience but not cheap for what it was.
The food is fantastic, and so is the service. But make sure you ask for the 'Chinese' menu as if you're not Asian, as they'll give you the Aussie menu instead. You don't go to Chinatown to eat fake Chinese food.
