Vegan options include:
- mapo tofu
- dumplings with veggie filling
- curry puffs
- spring onion pancakes
- spring rolls

The right phone number of the restaurant is 96639866

And pre ordering via the phone works very well.

The food
Firstly the range is well balanced for a dumpling based Chinese restaurant
However where Mao Please shines above others is the range of gluten free food.
They had a full menu not just one or two items

The service
For me was let down it was basic, simple came took order and left
No follow up or even returning to upsell aka ask if we wanted dessert after the mains
Further I found it frustrating they wouldn't change or alter food such as I couldn't swap normal rice for fried rice

The atmosphere
The location is perfect for a Chinese restaurant as it is in the heart of Melbourne's Chinatown
Inside the theme fits a dumpling restaurant
Only weird or odd part was the choice is background music
Having Celine Dion - my heart will go on playing as I had a fried dumpling for me killed the vibe and theme of what I want from a Chinese dumpling restaurant.

It's rare for a Chinese restaurant to have a separate gluten free menu. The gf dumplings and veg fried rice were delicious. The seafood noodle soup was odd tasting though.

Not bad of the Chinese food, tasty!
Good to share with friends, In the China town, very close to the place you want to go next, communion for the night out!

I had a fantastic experience! Their menu accommodated well for coeliac and vegetarians. They accommodated for all 20 of us which is often difficult these days. We did need to physically get up to find the staff request water, wine glasses and water for the table. But once we got their attention they were lovely!

Great authentic fried rice. It’s good Chinese. Worth walking right in

When a restaurant gets basic dishes right, that says a lot about the restaurant.

When I sat down I wasn’t sure what I was going to get, but it’s Melbourne and all Chinese food taste good here.

RoboMao’s fried rice was made properly and it was delicious! It was exactly what I was looking for on that day.

Images on the table was a little strange but they’re trying to stand out from the crowd hence it made sense

For these reasons I give this place 4 bears

Always excited to see a full gluten free menu. Caters super well to dietary requirements and the food was great.

They have a pretty good gluten free menu which is great when your partner is a coeliac and you want to eat Chinese foods. The GF dumplings though were lacking flavour, and the steamed ones were a bit dry. The GF shallot pancake was also a bit flat and didn’t have much to it. We also got the Mongolian beef, which was nice but felt like it was missing something. Overall, not the best Chinese and not the cheapest, but fine if you’re GF and just want some Chinese food.

Amazing gluten free Chinese food. Big portions. The Mongolian chicken was delicious and the gluten free dumplings amazing. Customer service was a bit lacking but the food made up for it.

Can’t figure out how they could get an average rating of 3.8! By far the worst Chinese meal I’ve had in a long time. The beef and potato dish cost $38.80 which looked and tasted really bad. I mean, REALLY bad!

Some of the best Chinese food I've had was here. Points too for the ultra-friendly atmosphere and the really original theme and decor. I just love this place and can't wait to be able to go again. It is open until very late, so suitable for after the opera or theatre, and they make one so very welcome!
This isn't the place to be wasting your order asking for the same old lemon chicken or sweet and sour pork. Try the special regional dishes from the Chairman's own homeland to get the most out of your experience. In particular, their Kung Pao Chicken is one of the best things I've ever eaten, anywhere.

Very impressed with this restaurants gluten/vegan/dairy free menu dishes. So tasty and a great selection of all the favourites. It was so lovely to enjoy Chinese food again! The only negative comment l have is that the wall decorations and decor in general are in need of cleaning!

Gluten free menu was brilliant, delicious food! Great price for gluten free food as we usually get stung for having Coeliac disease! Overall pretty good.

Gluten free dumplings for the win. Loved the pan fried chicken dumplings. Also ordered the GF chicken fried rice which was delicious. Service was great and restaurant was almost full. Prices were reasonable. I ate with a non GF person who also enjoyed their meals. We will be back.

It was actually diarrhoea. The chicken was fatty and slimy, the seafood soup was full of instant noodles with no flavour & we instantly felt sick from the smell walking in. Absolutely not worth any of your time or money.

First restaurant I came across that serves gluten free dumplings! Food is definitely worth checking out. The service on the other hand needs some improvement. Had to wait good 15-20 minutes to just place the order.
Both the steamed and the fried dumplings are amazing, full of flavours. All in all must visit place.
P. S.make sure to book your place beforehand as the waiting time can be upto 45 minutes here.
