Malthouse Theatre reviews
54Iconic Melbourne Arts precinct staple. Alw a us a great s how. Varied acts. A variety of tastes and genres. Great for a night out if you are feel u nd cultural. Worth keeping yourself on the mailing list to see what is coming up.
Some of the best theatre happens here. Great facilities, excellent staff and I love that they have maintained some of the original malthouse aesthetic. Nice outdoor area to relax in too.
Look, I love the Malthouse. It's a great venue that gets some good shows in and always has a good vibe. Be wary of parking in the area, as there's always a rush. Public transport connections aren't the worst, but definitely aren't great, unfortunately.
Theatre with a bar in the ground floor. I saw the opera Goust, the stage direction was impressive and so were some of the singers but I expected more accurate musical performence
This is my second time watching Michelle Lee's plays. This is an awesome little venue where you can watch cool plays and area is outside of the CBD enough that you can find street parking. Place also offers a selection of beer and wine that you can take into the play (request plastic cups). I highly recommend it.
We went to the Malthouse Theatre to see "The End of Eddy" an English production that was part of MIFA. Both performers were fantastic working with four screens to present multiple roles while also partnering to play the part of Eddy. This was totally engaging theatre dealing with political issues deftly and bringing to life the trials of working class life in a village in rural France. Eddy's futile attempts to make himself a real man were moving and his courage in finding a path to being himself was inspirational. It was a shame we saw one of the last performances because I intend to tell everyone about this performance.
It's been years since I've seen a performance at Malthouse. Today made me realize what I've been missing. Enjoyed amazing performances by innovative students, including ours then had the pleasure of seeing the professionals present the same play as the students. Very thought provoking performances by all. A great day.
Good food, but the overall customer service can better. A bit surprised to find a cafe with no internet service in this day and age.
Hosted an epic night of edgy comedy for the Fringe Festival. Great bar, unisex bathrooms and great theatre. Will be back for more funky nights.
The show was great but the staff there were disappointing at the bar and especially the restaurant we had been there for a function and they were supposed to have nibbles and snacks afterwards because everyone had come straight from work that’s how the function was organised
It’s like they delayed and delayed the food deliberately 9.30 pm we left hungry and angry
I will not recommend going here for a function
The shows yes
An amazing theatre with a great atmosphere, friendly staff and a variety of fun and educational performances
Great theatre with diverse range of shows. The excellent Alice Fraser and the Granny Bingo boys have been a highlight
Went to see Solaris at the Malthouse. First time for us and happy to say it won't be the last. The play was amazing! Fantastic acting, props, sound and video Hugo actually worked. The bar/cafe is great place to relax and enjoy a drink and a bite to eat before and after the play. The Malthouse is easy to get to from the city by tram or cab/ride share or even a brisk walk if you prefer.
Art, culture, entertainment, food, drink. What more could you ask for?
Solaris was excellent awesome use of set changes and great cast, characters and story totally engaging and different.
