82Beautiful food, crafted with care, exquisitely presented and absolutely delicious! Service personal, attentive, but not intrusive. Atmosphere quiet, so you can talk, warm and pleasant. I would highly recommend this small local gem in Heidelberg.

Originally an Italian deli, Little Black Pig & Sons was transformed into an Italian restaurant by chef/owner David Lakhi. Their menu changes fortnightly, with a new menu released every 2nd Wednesday. You can choose to dine from their A La Carte menu, or their 5-course tasting menu for $120pp. They only use local, sustainable produce and implement nose-to-tail cooking throughout their dishes.
We started off with fresh oysters with a tangy apple vinaigrette to cut through the creaminess, and followed by tartlets which were very fresh and light making them so easy to eat. The pear and caviar added sweetness and saltiness with a satisfying crunch of the tartlet shell. The finely chopped veal was accompanied by truffle butter which wasn’t overpowering - it was a balance of creamy aioli and the umami of truffle. Again, could eat many more of these easily!
Both pastas were incredible - the pork sausage ragù was saucy, rich, generous in portion and deep in flavour. It was perfect to soak the focaccia in.
The duck agnolotti was divine. The duck filling was incredibly tender and rich in the burnt butter and sage flavour but was so well-balanced. The portion of this pasta seemed small but after the richness of flavour and the additional sides, it was the perfect amount. The broccolini was great, tender and a good portion again. The tiramisu was delicious - a little different to others I’ve had, but nonetheless we wiped the plate clean. The sponge was soft but not too wet, the cream was nutty from the hazelnut liqueur.
What a fantastic experience - the food was outstanding and the service was excellent throughout. They run like a well-oiled machine, even on a busy night. It may have been my first visit but it won’t be my last!
I've eaten here on more than a few occasions. As always, the food was magnificent, and the service is excellent. My dining partner and I shared the Carpaccio di pesce and the Polenta con funghi to start. I had the Spaghetti con vongole e granchio for main course and we had a taste of the Tiramisu along with a coffee. Little Black Pig & Sons is situated in between my dining partner and my home, and this is our go to restaurant. We both look forward to eating here and would encourage people to experience how good this gem of a place is. If you don't live in the area, it's worth the drive.
Loved every detail of our experience here. The food was excellent and an exceptional opportunity to educate our palates. The staff were friendly and attentive and the ambiance was cozy and delightful.

Beautiful Italian experience. Waiters were professional, friendly and attentive. Service was great and food was excellent. We ordered the beef carpaccio and oysters as entree and the spaghetti vongole and duck ragu pappardelle for mains. All were beautifully executed! Would return and definitely try their tasting menu.

We had the valentines day set menu. Food was excellent- beautifully presented and full of flavour. Fine dining right in the heart of heidelberg. Good value for money and attentive service.
Tonight we celebrated our anniversary with exquisite food and lovely service
David has a great insight into seasonal food and his preparation, quality of the food is paramount, and David’s expertise is revealed in every part of his menu. I enjoyed some beautiful oysters from Tasmania with pickled apple and avruga caviar. They were both delicate and delicious
My husband enjoyed the oven baked lakes entrance flounder with heirloom tomatoes and olives and I enjoyed the amazing handmade Casio cello filled with leek, spinach, buffalo ricotta mint and nutmeg

Wow factor, and I used David’s homemade bread to soak up the sauce
We enjoyed our fresh and crunchy radicchio salad and because we were celebrating we then ordered the tiramisu and the flourless chocolate cake, both incredibly scrumptious
What a beautiful meal topped only by the really attentive service from Matt the maître d and manager and the team of attentive staff

Note, I'm a small woman. 5 course tasting menu not great value, left hungry even after 2 large slices of bread offered to us during the meal - take it you'll need it. We were told the tasting menu are very small portions of the a la carte menu, they weren't lying. E.g, the agnolotti under the primi menu were 4 small pieces of pasta. Duck was tough but at least this serving was a little more generous.
Service was ok. I arrived before a group of 3 who came together but they were attended to and seated before me. Waitress kept giving me sparkling water but I asked for still. To her credit, she noticed once and apologised but it happened 3 times.
Overall the food was rather disappointing in taste not just portion size. Some dishes could have been improved with more seasoning. Others didn't have a great balance of flavour and were rather bland or overpowered by something else in the dish.
Worth the price! The freshest seafood with high quality ingredients and perfect steak are the main reasons that bring me back! The 5 course tasting menu was worth the price and the service was friendly and attentive.
What a fabulous little gem tucked out of the way in Heidelberg. The ambience is perfect, the tables nicely separated in a small dining area, the staff are welcoming, knowledgeable and attentive - but all of that would mean little if the menu items were not fabulous, which they were. We enjoyed the Ricotta Tortonis, and shared both the Duck Cappelletti and Slow Cooked Lamb Shoulder.
All dishes were delicious, beautifully presented and plentiful in size - though I do hope to get back and enjoy the Duck Cappelletti in Butter Sage sauce just to myself - it was a flavour explosion in the mouth. Thank you David and team for a wonderful mid-week dining experience.
