La Onda Latin Mex reviews
30The owner is delightful and would come back because of her hospitality to stay open after scheduled hours! Food of course was delicious and authentic
La Onda Latin Mex failed to meet expectations. The ceviche, left a sharp acidity that lingered, somewhat overshadowing its potential freshness. The redeeming factor came from nachos, their chips providing solid form holding up to the cheese, sour cream and guacamole, this was probably the only dish I personally enjoyed.
The biggest disappointment came from the tacos, a substantial investment at $74 that failed to justify the cost. The absence of coriander in the pico de gallo, left the salsa lacking of its usual vibrancy. This, combined with bland, dry fillings, created probably one of the worst tacos both my partner and I have had. The chicken was dry, the beef not as dry but lacked any flavour whatsoever, the vegetables honestly just tasted like someone had cut up veggies put them in a pan and slapped them in a taco, the fish taco tasted very fishy, reminding me of frozen flathead tails which made an unappetising taco.
The wait time on food seemed longer than expected, whilst overall we don’t mind waiting for fresh high quality food, this wasn’t worth it. While the nachos provided a brief respite, they couldn't salvage the overall dining experience. La Onda Latin Mex, despite potential, missed the mark. I rate this place a 3/10
What a beautiful little Mexican pocket in the heart of Dromana!
We smashed a taco feast with the family and they were more than accommodating for us, extended the table to make room, custom taco for my son and even made me a horchata that wasn't on the menu by request! Thank you for looking after us. The food was more than filing! Super fragrant and delicious, but e will be back! Thank you for having us.
Ceviche, ribs, Cuba libre, sangria and corn were epic, service was excellent, thanks for a great dinner guys.
Amazing food, amazing atmosphere. A differemt experience, food cooked right in front of us. We will be back for. Thankyou Roxy, you made our night with your caring hospitality.
Beautiful, authentic Latin Mexican food cooked with love!
Sitting up at the bar and watching Mama Roxy cook was simply beautiful. She meticulously fusses over every dish that leaves her little ‘one lady kitchen’. Her eyes simply light up watching everyone smile with joy upon eating her creations.
Could not fault our dinner or our experience. We will definitely be back!
We visited La Onda on Sunday (and experienced the 10% Sunday surcharge) which was decent Mexican style food but nothing special in my view given it was relatively expensive. The bathroom which is via the kitchen was also quite a strange experience! I had nachos which could have been more topping heavy and the flautas which I personally thought needed a dipping sauce (so I ordered a side of sour cream). Not somewhere I would frequent
Excellent customer service and the food was lovely. Would recommend visiting this restaurant.
There are only two perfect Mexican restaurants in Victoria. 6 people, looked after by a generous family business.
Roxy and Alex are the most wonderful people you will ever meet. They have created a very inviting space with the most delicious Mexican food around. Amazing food, drinks, service, tunes. I love this place!
My husband and I ate here recently and absolutely loved it! The food is so tasty and delicious, and the staff are very welcoming.
Firstly, was served the wrong beer and were told it was our fault and we ordered the wrong kind.
Ordered pork and beef tacos, both were dry with no flavour, couldn’t even swallow it was that dry.
Out of the 4 tacos we had a bite out of each.
Staff weren’t the friendliest and the chef was so rude when we complained about the food after we had apologised for complaining, chef stated we were just after a discount on our food.will not be back and was a disappointing ending to our first weekend away as a family. Wouldn’t even give it “one star rating if that was an option”
This place is really overpriced and flavours were average, I'm mexican and I couldn't believe that their guacamole is a supermarket paste! It was strange because the first guacamole we ordered was real/natural (still not great taste though), but the second was absolutely not real, what an insult. Also the service is way too slow, we had to ask the waitress for what we ordered several times.
Wouldn't recommend
Really disappointed with the service! Very long waiting time, confusion with orders, even a bottled beer, we were waiting for 15 minutes! Served half of dish and food although tasty is extremely overpriced eg standard size nachos cost $32. Staff is pretending you are not there even we were sitting right in front of them, they didn’t give us napkins and cutlery! So we had to take it from another table.
Spectacular soul food cooked with so much love and care.
Thank you to the lovely owner, we didn't feel like we were eating in a restaurant - it felt like we were in your home kitchen watching you lovingly prepare our food.
We could taste your heart in the wonderful beef burrito bowl and the sumptuous Tulum Salad.
The complimentary jalopeno poppers were a delight while we watched you create the magic in your kitchen!
We will see you again in the future on our next visits to Mornington Peninsula - always!
Muchas gracias
Great food ie tortilla soup, poppers and tacos. Margaritas were delicioso. Wouldn’t take much notice of low reviews about service. It was really good! Can’t wait to go back
The service is first class and awesome energy… All credit to those locals keeping hospitality alive and providing everyone with a moment with MUMMA ROXY…! We’ll be back for sure.
Very well executed fish tacos, batter is light and fish is fresh. What’s most amazing is the hospitality of the lady boss who kindly offered us her Mexican hats for photo taking. Great food plus warm reception is what makes this place a to go when in mornington peninsula
The Ceviche was great.
Tacos were ok but I might try something different to chicken next visit, as it was not as tasty as i would have liked this time round.
The chefs are so friendly!
Wonderful alternative to fish and chips or the pub. Authentic Mexican food and friendly staff headed by the lovely owner. I had the burrito and it was amazing, so fresh and healthy! My friend had the fish taco very generous servings. Well worth and try.
