Kumo Izakaya & Sake Bar reviews
83Food was really good pretty much all the dishes were delicious except for the "garden salad" which was mostly capsicum, sake and staff were amazing, and the pannacotta dessert was nek level, it is a little on the pricey side of the value for money ledger though.
A fantastic place to book a small izakaya get together for your office friends. Portion size of food is less than expected but the drinks are great.
We went here with a good food voucher that we had and it was the best choice the sashimi was amazing and I’m not usually a huge fan of it. The fried chicken bao was sooo good as well. We’ll definitely be back!
Highly recommend, great service and consistently decent food on every visit. Cosy and lively atmosphere great for groups.
Stunning. Incredible. Awe inspiring. There might be a better contemporary Japanese restaurant in Melbourne but if so I haven't heard of it. Every item on the menu is a delight and the staff are very welcoming and professional.
One of the best Japanese experience I had so far in mel. Nice sake option (of course it is a sake bar). Great food. Do not hesitate to order dessert platter as it gives you a final touch for the evening
Wonderful New Year's Dinner. Food was perfect, service was excellent. The private room made the night really special. Could not fault.
This has got to be the worst Japanese restaurant experience I’ve ever had. Never got menus, so I had to get them for the table. Waited 45 mins for meals, one came out. Never got water. The wagyu was chewy. Sashimi $18 for 4 very small pieces. Still waiting for my mains.
What a delicious experience, we had so many sharing dishes, all outstanding and last was the sharing dessert platter with 3 desserts
Fantastic restaurant, beautiful food and cocktails, staff were great even though we were annoying and asked to be moved due to a noisy table next to us. I notice some people complaining about price in reviews, but we looked up the menu beforehand so we're not surprised by pricing and the food was definitely worth it. We were both very full by the end. Great for vegetarians.
Portion sizes are fine, but the food is very westernised and just really not really on par with the quality you’ll find elsewhere at that price point. The banquet had pretty average food items that weren’t overly impressive. The sake matching was nice and we still enjoyed ourselves, but there are much better places in Melbourne that cost a similar amount of money and for that reason I wouldn’t go back to Kumo.
Service is great, they managed to squeeze us in despite being fully booked. Food came out quite quickly too.
Food was quite tasty, well portioned and priced. Everything had a nice modern flavour to it so if you want more traditional tastes you'd have to look elsewhere. The edamame were quite delicious and definitely recommended.
Nice warm atmosphere that's lively but not too noisy. Keen to go back and try a few more dishes when I get the chance.
Food was great. Real lovely staff. So friendly and happy to give recommendations, particularly on their drinks list. Real cosy industrial vibe.
Not a standard Japanese restaurant by any means, but a very cool one.
The Octopus Bites were delicious, as was the grilled Miso Salmon with Watermelon Kimchi, Apple Snow, Black Garlic and Yuan Sauce.
Thematically the place looks and feels great and the atmosphere when we went on a Saturday nice was chilled but still energised.
Really good fresh fish! We did the degustation, this was good value for money, paired with sake (the $35 pair). The sake was ok. There was no warm paired sake which was a bit of a bummer.
Food excellent. Ambiance good. Service good. Next time we'll try the sake tasters. Highly recommend.
I went with friends to a Good Food Month degustation dinner with paired sake and it was AMAZING! What topped the night off is it was hosted by Sake Master Andre who shared a wealth of knowledge about sake and Japan.
I highly suggest an outing to Kumo for the food and sake alone, and if you an opportunity to do the hosted experience, go for it!
Absolutely Delicious. Excellent price and value. My favourite Japanese restaurant in Melbourne! The service was very fast and friendly even during a busy Friday night.
Service was excellent, food was delicious however I found a couple of the dishes a little heavy on seasoning. It was loud and crowded on a Saturday and it was hard to talk. Other than that it was a pleasant evening for me.
When I read other reviews saying serving sizes were small I thought well it's a Japanese restaurant so servings will be small but these were really small and I'm not a big eater. My boyfriend and I spent a $100 good food voucher but were still hungry when we left. The food was very good but not exceptional, especially for the price. Maybe the banquet is better value?
