Kumo Izakaya & Sake Bar

We came here with my family for my 21st birthday dinner. My family have been here multiple times, so we thought this would be the perfect place to have a birthday feast!

10 minutes after sitting down, the manager came up to me to wish me happy birthday, then proceeded to tell me that I needed to be mindful of other patrons in the restaurant and that my guests and I were not to be loud or rowdy. Awkward, a Tuesday night with a table of people ranging from 30-50 years old who were all working the next day. I was actually embarrassed, as half the table heard. Werid, rude, unprofessional.

Service was below average. Really slow front of house, couldn't get drinks-even after making eye contact with the manager, not clearing plates and bottles. Back of house slow as well, we noticed many tables getting food before us. About 2 hours just to get through the banquet courses.

Steak was really delicious, so were the salmon tacos. But all in all, I just wanted my guests to have a nice time and order big, instead I feel underwhelmed and embarrassed.

Food was exquisite. Ambience was perfect. The staffs were so friendly and accommodating. My kids got free Japanese chopstick sets for kids and also colouring books so both parents could enjoy our time here.

Cannot fault Kumo, such tasty food in a beautifully designed restaurant with the friendliest staff. The signature ramen gnocchi is AMAZING, as well as the sashimi deluxe and beef rib.

Beautiful restaraunt for a lovely night out. Food was fresh and tasteful, wine list was a good selection. Highly recommend this place! Both owners personally came up to our table to see how we were going and if we required anything. Felt very relaxed and comfortable. Highly recommended!

Great food and wonderful service staff will give advice on portion sizes and id you want more just order more.
Drinks were good cocktails were nice and the happy ending was worth while try

Great food experience. Costa and his team were lovely. The venue is amazing and would definitely go back and recommend to all my friends.

Very disappointed on the service. We came in hungry with a Big group and Waited almost and hour and a half for a mains and an hour for our appraisers and almost an hour to be served 1 beer which was asked multiple times and noticed the manager not even looking in our direction and serving everyone else as the got their food before us when we came in first. Food is delicious but ruined by the experience we had and always having to ask for the same order and stress on when put food is coming.

Came for Mother’s Day the food was incredible and the atmosphere was great with its traditional aesthetic very enjoyable experience will definitely be coming back

This place offers all the things that you would expect from a Japanese dinner experience- from service to quality and flavors.

Fantastic bar. Amazingly delicious food, the waiters offered us a great range of sake and whiskey through our stay. Highly recommend booking the "landing on your feet" room for a group, you get a very interesting dining experience. Great night had by all, highly recommend it.

The dishes in the chef's omnivore feed-me set was really delicious - couldn't be happier with the quality of the food. Unfortunately we had to wait around 90 minutes for most of our mains to come out, though we did have a group of 19. Beware of eating at this place if you have a large group

Great choice for our return to dining out post-isolation. Great food and sake and great service. Even with the social distancing measures, the atmosphere was lovely as the booth seating makes everything cosy.

Kumo is our favourite Brunswick restaurant. Food is always amazing. Great service and a lovely, cosy atmosphere.

Great service, incredible food, wonderful vibe. This is easily a new staple restaurant for us. Will be coming back 100% the free cocktail was a nice treat too: D wonderful staff full of knowledge and made our experience all the much better.

What an absolutely brilliant experience. Coming out of COVID lock-down, it was a real treat to be able to eat out once again and Kumo Izakaya & Sake Bar far surpassed our expectations. The private dining room was a real treat, the food (set-menu) was outstanding - full of flavour and variety, the service exceptional - particularly from Brendan and the Sake Samurai who was so passionate and patient (with all our questions) and had a wealth of knowledge and hands on experience in the Sake world. Definitely one of Melbourne's best Japanese restaurants in Melbourne.so refreshing to have great quality food with exceptional service as well. Thank you to all the staff for making it such a wonderful experience for us. We'll be back again very soon

Came in for dinner with friends. The food was beautiful. Fresh and delicious. The grilled squid in particular was a highlight. Next time I would avoid the tables with bar stools in favour of one of the booth tables.

I dined with 3 other friends and we were all in agreement that the food and service was great. We had a selection of 10 different dishes all great. Good value for money

Sake is the best place to try out. Foods are amazing, Sachimi is great with fairly price, eggplant is good salads and miso dressing, Ramen gnocchi is wonderful dish with a twisted Japanese style and carbonara. I’m sure I’ll definitely be back again.

Great venue with a varied menu and excellent selection of sake. The fried ramen gnocchi was especially memorable!
