What an amazing dining experience! Food was incredible, cocktails were delicious but the customer service was amazing! Thankyou for making our first time at Kisume so memorable

Unbelievable gastronomy at the chef's table. Highly recommend this! Every dish was just so unique, created with careful curation and they all tasted wonderful. You're really taken on an amazing journey throughout the night. Without a doubt, book right away. I highly recommend it!

It’s slick, sexy and yes it’s very expensive. The floor service is always great once you get past the front desk who can be prickly, I’ve been refused before for not having a reservation. When walk ins have been available I have dined alone happily at the bar and had drinks at the bar upstairs with a group and it’s a sexy space. Cocktail menu elevates the whole experience, beautiful list. The food isn’t super inventive but I’d still pick here over Nobu every day.

This restaurant is purely aesthetics based, the food is some of the worst sushi I have had and without a doubt THE worst at their price point. You are so much better off going to a less pretentious cheaper restaurant, you are guaranteed to have a better experience. I paid $22 for 1 scampi nigiri that was well below average and the kingfish sashimi ($48) was like rubber. But, hey! It’ll look good on your instagram. If I stop one customer going to this place because of this review I will die a happy man.

Nice place. Id recommend sashimi and nigiri dishes over the cooked dishes. Mushrooms were surprisingly good

I think this place is hyped, to say the least. I'll start on a positive- the service was great atmosphere is fine. But I couldn't help but feel everyone was there for the name, not the food.

I'd consider myself very well travelled (Japan being part of my travel port folio), and although I'm not comparing to Japan, I was still incredibly underwhelmed for the pricing. Food is fine at best. Nothing stood out for me- we got the set menu. My husband and I were bored to say the least. Nothing overly amazing, raw fish, some beef, more raw fish etc etc.

I was expecting way more for the hype this place gets. I mean, I think Kisume, like many other Melbourne eateries, trade off the hype, rather than the actual food they deliver. The food quality is great- don't get me wrong. It was just a mediocre taste experience at best.

From food to service to atmosphere, it was truly special from start to finish. Highly recommended for any special occasion.

Got sitting at 8: 45pm, dine 9ish which I booked 8pm. We were starving! 3 out of 7 people had food poisoning! I was so sick that night…total spent $1500 and had a awful nite.very sad for me and my adults kids.

A few criticisms: I called ahead to make sure that friends on a table of 2 were seated next to our table of 4. They confirmed this with me as well as the other party. On the night, we realised they didn't do this. So they had to sit at the bar and wait 45mins or so for the table next to us to finish their dinner to get seated next to us as agreed upon during the phone booking.

Same thing happened with split bills. I had called ahead and was told that split bills were absolutely fine. I had doubts about this.and on the night I asked again and of course the waitress said that there was no way they could split bills fantastic. Great. Thanks. Why do I even bother to call ahead LOL

Anyway the food was mostly great. The tuna tartare was a bit too fishy for me (I think it's the sea urchin in it). The daqouise dessert is pretty tiny though.

My friends still all had a great time:)

In my opinion, Chef’s table is the best Japanese food in Victoria, I’ve been twice there and 3 times to street level restaurant, you gotta go!

We went for the Chef Table Omakase, 2 ppl around 650$. The omakase kind of mixes of cuision western and japan. Not orginial japanese omakase. Yea properly could say this the worst omakase that i ever had. Not worth the price and will never come back

Super delicious food. Kids loved the waygu beef balls, Calamari and Sashimi. Definitely a must try. We loved the Tooth fish. Would probably give the Asparagus a miss next time as it didn't have enough flavour. Wish the price was less so we could come more often.

Paid $600 worth of food but did not receive the same standard of service. Was also charged for two bottles of still water ($24) without consent, however the waitress served us tap water. Food was not too bad but the whole dining experience was a let down. What a shame. Will definitely not recommend anyone who is willing to spend that much amount to go.

This is the 3rd time I have come to Kisume and previously had 5/5 experience.
Unfortunately today I haven't given them a 5 star rating. I decided to bring my colleague to try Kisume as I have been raving to her about it for months and I thought we deserve a good meal out as we had worked so hard during Covid as doctors.
Anyhow, food was amazing BUT when it came to paying the bill, we started taking cash from our purse to gather the funds to pay the bill and I overheard one of the chief making a comment about us 'haha they are Chinese, that is what they do. Very Chinese thing to do'. It was a very obvious comment pointed at us. I guess it was just unfortunate we were carrying a lot of cash with us that day. I understand comments can be made but next time keep your voice down or don't make the comment at all.
Extremely disappointing and stereotypical comment to make.
P. S just because we look Asian doesn't mean we are Chinese.

Please understand what 2/5 means - if I evaluate Kisumé in its entirety I am looking at the value delivered compairitive to price and then evaluating that to it's contemporaries at that price.

Do I think you will have a nice time there? Yes. I think the kitchen pushed out tasty food and the atmosphere was OK.

However, the cocktails were not well balanced and perhaps because this is the first weekend out of lockdown the front of house / wait staff are a little out of step. If the price were say $110 per person, it would be evaluating as good to average. At $180ish (inclusive of drinks) per person, we were really underwhelmed. The prices did not reconcile with the experience.

Perhaps take this review as that perhaps the team are just a bit behind where they normally would be (especially the bar). Keep an eye on these reviews to see if there is an improvement in the near future.

Great experience fine dining. Good atmosphere and great service. I would recommend coming here for some nice yummy Japanese food.

Although the wine lists had a lot of non Australian selection, there are still some pretty good alcohol.

Truly an exquisite dining experience, the uni was so fresh and so delicious, the sashimi perfectly cut, the sushi creative and beautiful and all at the perfect temperature. Plus the recommended sake pairings were ideal. We like the early sitting, the staff aren't rushed at at all and are very attentive

We visited this restaurant yesterday for lunch. The quality of the food is excellent. The maki, king prawn, and grilled salmon are the favourites. The fish broth with miso is delicious too but the agedashi tofu is bland.

Overall, it is highly recommended if you’re looking for Japanese food in the city.
