It's a great little izakaya up the Preston end of High Street Northcote.
Their staff are friendly and accommodating, including being very helpful for vegans.
The kitchen know their stuff and served up the best Japanese curry I've had, which includes the many I've had in Japan.
Their drinks list is not extensive but they have a great range of beers, wines and sake.
It's a fair way from my place but when visiting family in Northcote I'll gladly eat there.
Do yourself a big favour and try this place out.
Arigatõ gozaimasu!

This is the kind of place you know will be good when you walk in the door. The food, service and atmosphere here are perfect for a bite to eat.

I don’t usually struggle to choose a meal, but there were so many options that caught my eye. The staff were polite and the food was served with a perfect amount of time to settle and chat between servings. A stand out for me was their Agedashi Tofu, the broth was a perfect amount of sweet and salty, with a great consistency and the tofu was prepared incredibly well.

The atmosphere was laid back and the service was prompt with seating, clearing and serving. The music wasn’t over powering and the seating was comfortable.

Currently the menu on their website is out of date, however the same type of meals are being served. If you’re around the area and craving something good to eat I highly recommend giving IROHA a go!

I was very disappointed with the takeway we had recently from this restaurant. The quality of the food was fine-nothing outstanding, but nice-but the serves were very small even though the prices were not. We did not feel that we received value for money. The piece of salmon in my wife's bento was the size of a credit card and the sashimi would not even be thought of as a children's portion. I expect better when I pay $173 for takeaway for four people.

Salmon Bento Box. Quality of the food was great. Portion size was incredibly small, salmon was one mouthful. Unfortunately I’ll have to make a second dinner.

If you brought to life lofi art into a restaurant this would be the place. Good food and the best service. The waiter knew the food and able to offer great recommendations on everything. Exactly the type of place to have good food, service, and unwind after a long day.

Staff very friendly, nice atmosphere and food was tasty however … portion sizes were outrageously small for the price. We left a little disappointed and picked up a pizza on the way home. Wouldn’t recommend unless you’re not bothered by money or appetite.

The service is good but I don’t really like fusion menus, and the food is very expensive. Think of this more like a bar than a restaurant. If you want some nice sake etc, go for it. If you’re very hungry? Maybe not. Especially if you’re vegetarian. I had agedashi tofu and miso eggplant (half) which cost, idk $45 and I was still quite hungry. Plus drinks $$$.

I am celiac and this restaurant really catered for what I need when eating out. The food was phenomenal. Every dish was its own sweet special experience. The grilled duck has honestly changed my life, each mouthful made my heart jump. The sake cocktails were generous pours and delicious, staff were attentive and helpful. I truly cannot fault the experience! Counting the days til I can go back!

Even though I enjoyed the experience of dining here, I couldn't help but feel it out of place. Not sure if they were going for fine dining based on how each dish was presented, or casual dining based on the whole vibe of the place. The dishes were expensive and the wait times between dishes were long. It is delicious, but it is expensive. The service was great, staff was very friendly and really gave the place an authentic Japanese flair. Food standout was the chirashi albeit the serving could have been bigger. Pork skewers, skip the blue cheese dip, that thing was microwaved, not Japanese, and didn't taste great. Cocktails were good, just ask for their special.

The Yuzu sorbet is amazing! You could even use it as a palette cleanser between dishes.
The Tataki Beef and Aburi Scallop Nigiri Sushi are an absolute MUST try!
Kids (ours are 10,8,5 & 1) will love the IKFC and Japadogs!

Was meant to go to welcome to northcote but while walking past, thought this place was cute! They were booked out but we sat outside. They turned on the heater, gave us nice warm blankets and were mindful of asking us if we wanted Ice in our drinks in case it made us cold as we were outside. I appreciated the service so much and the young man that served us is a gem.
The food was delicious and servings were 'quality over quantity'. We got the pickles, lotus chips, miso soup, two beers and two of the specials (swordfish and snapper) with rice. It was delicious, and came to about $100 which was reasonable in my opinion!
We will be back.

Looks nice, but the tired adage of “Fully Booked Out” when the restaurant is empty, just doesn’t fly.

Exceptional Japanese. Chef Eisei is a perfectionist and this shows in the quality of his food. A noticeable step above your typical Japanese restaurant. Consistent quality, lovely staff. We love this place.

Food is amazing here, but it is a bit small serve.
Great variety of drinks to order, love the sake for sure.

My favorite local Japanese restaurant <3

No doubt their Nanban Chicken Karaage don was the best!
Now they have it in a bento version:)

The other day I tried the Pork Belly Tonkatsu don and it is now my new favorite dish <3
Crunchy outside and soft inside!

It would be good to get more than six little pieces or, alternatively, a bit less rice. But still very tasteful!

Tasty food and good service, but I would say the prices are a bit high for what you get. But they use a lot of authentic ingredients and it's rough out there for little niches like this right now. Would be interested to return for lunch.

Had their bento box on Wednesday, it was amazing. The just finished the bento right before i arrived, it's so fresh and hot. Different vegs side dish and the potato salad, it surprisingly a high quality with a reasonable price, coming back for sure.

And they are opening on Sunday now!

The food was extremely salty and the staff were pushy and rude. I was shocked when I ate there. I had to abandon my glorified salt lick.
