IL Gusto reviews
88Worst pizza I’ve eaten. Not only was it bland but their idea of a vegetarian pizza was Margherita topped with sliced carrots, green beans and pieces of zucchini…?
Disappointing experience.
Service was fine.
Decor is dated but cosy feeling.
Food was average in terms of tastiness.
Value was poor given the prices and portion sizes.
Worst, we had to wait for 45 minutes for our food to arrive.
Don't know how or why they are still trading.
Our group of 4 were all disappointed, Garlic pizza was like cardboard, Veal scallopeni had hardly any veal.
Recommend you find somewhere else to eat.
Avoid at all costs! We made the mistake of giving this restaurant a go on Tuesday night when most other vendors were closed. Eerily similar to Diane and others at her table below. We were told it was a 40 minute wait for food because of a function upstairs - absolutely empty! Why lie to us? Food was overpriced, tiny portion sizes, no taste and some of the pasta wasn’t even cooked. Incredibly shocked this place is still in business…
My wife and another couple came to this place as so many other restaurants were either closed for different reasons or had long lines waiting to get inside them.
My wife had the garlic prawns which were really nice. The other couple had spaghetti wth mussels but found ti most odd that there would be carrot in it. Her husband had the chicken parmigiana and there was a lot of chees but NO ham in it.
I had the veal marsala. The description says Medalions of veal.there was a few very thinly (and not evenly) cut slices of veal.there were vegetables which included squash and bot green and what looked likt yellow butter beans. I love veal marsala, but didnt love this, she sauce wasnt smooth and creamy, instead it looked like (but wasnt) curdled.
We ordered the garlic pizza as a share before the main meal, Ive never ever seen anything like this that would remotely call itself a pizza, there was NOpizza base! Instead it weas like some kind of flat bread whic was like cardbaord when served, it had a very basic introduction to garic and olive oil, the base was thinner than most crackers and there was no real flavour to speak of.
When we arrived we were tolfd there was a 40 minute wait becuase of a function upstairs, this was not the case at all, there was Nobody upstairs.
Note to staff. PLEASE DO NOT TELL FIBS TO CUSTOMERS.
Normally I would say I would live here if it was a special place, but this is not special and i could not wait to get out of the place.
Serioulsy if you dont want to spend a fortune and look at what they had t offer, drive on through
Worst restaurant on Lygon Street. Gave us the wrong food, yelled at us, served us spam, and charged us for food we didn’t order. Do not go here.
Absolutely wonderful. Great service and i absolutely loved the chicken soup. Highly recommend if you’re looking for a calm evening.
What a lovely little surprise restaurant. Super friendly lady to greet us. Tasty bruschetta to start. Delicious Moreton Bay bugs & gnocchi bolognese for main. Really enjoyed our experience. Thank you
After reading very mixed reviews we decided to give this restaurant a try and I must say the food was very average with the pizza being burnt and overcooked, the spaghetti bolognaise being very bland, lamb cutlets over cooked and chewy with a rosemary sauce that didn’t have any rosemary flavour, lasagne that looked and tasted frozen!
We had 6 people at our table and every person was disappointed with their meal and have left the restaurant still hungry!
The restaurant was cold inside no heating (as it was very cold outside) no very inviting to say the least! Now I understand why the restaurant was empty and it was easy to get a table whilst a lot of other restaurants had a lot of people in queues. Will never go back there or waste my money on this place again!
Very skeptical to enter the restaurant as it was near empty on a Saturday night, but with a party of 10 our options were limited. Lovely customer service from both ladies to accommodate us, but disappointed and quite annoyed with the quality of the food. The heavily promoted gnocchi was not available and the pizza's were absolutely atrocious (definitely ALDI pizza's wacked in the oven). I only ate my meal, as I was intoxicated and hungry, similar to the others. Gordan Ramsay needs to pay a visit to Il Gusto to improve it. Only 1 person enjoyed their meal which was the risotto. Won't ever be returning and do indeed regret going here, as it was for a special occasion. Was asked to leave a 5 star review also. I did. I just divided it by 5.
I wish I could give this place 10 stars. My favourite Italian on Lygon St. Fernando is my favourite. The name 'gusto' is very fitting as everyone had lots of gusto.
Awful pizza. I seriously think they were frozen pizzas you buy at the supermarket
Please don't go here
After numerous recommendations I thought I would pop in and try this little piece of Italy!
Had the bruschetta which was really good but the hit was the Rib eye on the bone? !
Absolutely perfectely cooked just the way I ordered it and the flavour took me back to when a steak tasted like a steak! 10/10 for me and I'm so fussy with food.
And the lady at the door was amazing so easy going nothing was an issue and that just made it all the more relaxing!
Will be back real soon lol
I wish I could give this place 0 stars. We asked for the $10 garlic bread and got charged $15, my friends were sharing a bruschetta and the manager automatically upsized it with out their knowledge and charged us $22 instead of $15. None of these new prices were specified on the menu and usually you expect that when you ask for something on the menu it will be the price specified on the menu! I’m never going here ever again. Food tasted below average aswell. There are much better Italian options along Lygon street. Ps. Who on earth charges $5 for a can of coke
Completely transactional experience. Once we began to order we were told they don’t have any gnocchi today because the chef didn’t make it (which was a third of their menu). Got the spaghetti Napoli (large) which was overwhelmingly average and indeed SMALL. $24 and was charged $25 but wasn’t informed of the surcharge until after the transaction had gone through- incredibly dodgy vibes. I never leave reviews but this experience upset me and made us regret going there: (
If I could give zero stars I would.
This place is a disgrace.the pasta was tiny but apparently a main.
The pizza was so bad it's a frozen pizza not fresh definitely not made on site and didn't even have the correct ingredients on it.
Even my 12 year old daughter was disgusted.
Please do not waist your time or money
The lady was very nice and friendly for international visitors such as me. The restaurant had a good Italian style and I felt relaxed. The combination of pasta and cheeses tasted awesome.
The best gnocchi Gorgonzola I have ever tried by first far! To be fair all the dishes are amazing! The most lovely staff that couldn’t be any nicer. We have been coming here for about 2-3 years now and cannot understand why that do not have 5 stars… we drive from Elwood at least once a fortnight
Great service from Philippe, loved their marinara pasta. Adequate pricing and a free drink on the house. Will be coming back.
Perfectly delicious food made by friendly people:)
Can happily say that this has been the best tasting Italian restaurant I have ever eaten at, highly recommend!
