IL Gusto reviews
88Walked by this restaurant and was greeted by a hostess so we decided to have a late dinner here. There were some chaotic patrons who threw a tantrum because they had a long wait but we felt ours was reasonable. 10 minutes after placing our order, our oysters and garlic bread were served. They were so fresh and delicious. About 35 minutes after that, our Gnocchi Bolognese, Gnocchi Pesto & Gnocchi Gorgonzola were served. We felt it was a reasonable wait time as all the pastas are made fresh. It was amazing and tasted so so good, especially with the parmigiano
Dined here today looking for an Italian feed. We ordered 2 pizzas and they were woeful, I’ve had better frozen pizzas from the supermarket. So disappointed in my restaurant choice, unfortunately won’t be going back.
The pizza was frozen pizza. It was low in salt and I can do better when I buy it myself from the market. Also, if you buy pasta, be sure to ask about the size, otherwise they bring it larger and the price is more expensive. Also, unfortunately, the taste was not good.
Despite all bad reviews we tried to give a chance to this place, but….
The most bad experience was with meatball pizza. Pizza base from supermarket. Meatballs aren’t meatballs, they are 10% meet and 90% something else, like dog food
Marinara was ok, sparkling wine was ok, service was great and super sweet, but meatballs…I will see them in my worst nightmares
I've only been to this place twice, but each time I went, I had a pretty bad experience. During my first visit last year, I ordered a Gnocchi to go. When I was eating it, I kept finding bits of bone in it. Don't know how they even got in there when it wasn't exactly a meat heavy dish! During my second visit, which was last night, I ordered a chicken pizza. It was bland and it has given me food poisoning. Thanks for that!
We were starving and decided to give this place a shot, even though it was empty. Little did we know we would be having the worst pizza in our lives. Flavour less, small, unappetizing. And worst of all we waited 1 hour for three pizzas even though we were the only ones. I will have to start looking at reviews before I go to places
Reluctantly dragged in here by hubbie as very few places open on a Monday on Lygon St and we were in a rush. A layer of grime covers the whole place. Literally the worst pizza - I can't even imagine how they get it this bad. It looked and tasted like dry cardboard with burnt inedible edges. It seemed that it had been cooked previously and then recooked with toppings - in the microwave. There were only 4 other people in the restaurant but my son's Marguerita pizza still came out cold - probably because it wasn't defrosted properly. It looked disgusting - not sure what they were using for cheese - looked like something mixed with plastic. The only mercy was that none of us were sick afterwards. The waitress was pleasant enough.
AVOID LIKE THE PLAGUE!
My appetite has been restricted by the faetus inside me. When I walked past this place and saw the photos of vongole on the window, I had to ask my buddy to come meet me here. No more Japanese for dinner lol
They split bills as well. Very customer friendly. The service was lovely and the food was faetus recognised
It’s really a nice restaurant. I had gnocchi bolognese for lunch with seafood. It was really delicious. The staff (Amira & Ali) were very lovely and friendly. Thank you very much. Definitely, I’ll come back again
Used to love the food as a child, now I’ve gone back and the entire meal was disappointing. Cold and the taste was below average and mass produced.
If I could give this place a 0 I would! Please read the reviews and don’t make the mistake we did.
My partner & I visited this place the other night after failing to find any “decent” Italian open on Lygon St as we realised it was the start of the week when most restaurants have their weekends. We’ve visited Lygon in the past & have had the most beautiful food and I also always read the reviews to avoid disappointment but unfortunately we were starving & we fell into the ill Gusto trap. From a chefs perspective, it is highly unlikely the cooks at ill gusto are trained with the lack of flavour & use of strange ingredients to make a dish as well as the lack of meals available on the menu. I have never in my years of culinary experience seen carrot, lettuce & cheap processed ham in a carbonara sauce! Gordon Ramsay needs to pay a visit to this place.
Had carbonara with 'bacon' in it. It didn't taste like bacon, told by proprietor it was beef bacon, didn't see signs restaurant was halal. Carbonara sauce tasted bland, pasta not good quality. Will queue for a place with more stars next time!
Had my birthday here unplanned and loved it! The waitress Sonia was beyond sweet giving us drinks free of charge + bringing me a ballon and dessert out of her own kindness, other then that the food was good really liked the Parma thanks for a wonderful time guys
Went on a Monday, place was absolutely dead. Service was good but the food was pretty forgettable.
My experience was a bitter surprise with the host being extra reassuring with high expectation. However, food came out disappointing with the chicken parma being the most ill-biting experience ever.
If I could give this place a 0 I would. Almost every second item on the menu they ran out of, it took over 1.5 hours for our food to arrive and the staff were very very rude. They claim they have been on lygon for 40 years however their service speaks otherwise. Disgusting
Let me preface this by saying that the waitress was so lovely and understanding bless her but the host is a joke. We should have known better not to trust a restaurant giving a free round of drinks and an appetiser on the house - its giving very much desperate. Food was really average but my friend had the “filet mignon” which was literally two dry thin skirt steaks stacked with a rancid bechamel and some random steamed veg? I told the waiter who promised us a ZERO dollar fee if the food wasn’t “fantastic” that this was literally inedible and the cut was NOT filet and im not paying for that. His reasoning was “here in australia they do things different to italy sweetheart” and walked away and then the chefs reasoning was they got a new butcher who cuts the steak in half? Lol literally dont go to this circus “40 years traditional italian chef” what an absolute joke.
The guy out front baited us in by offering free wine and garlic bread and said if we weren’t satisfied we wouldn’t have to pay. One of us had the mussel spaghetti which amazed us because we hadn’t tasted mussels so tasteless, hopefully they’re not sick tomorrow. I had the Margherita pizza which was the most mid $19 pizza I have had, just tasted watered down. Don’t make the same mistake as us and get lured in by the dude saying the shop has run for 40 years
Ordered "Tortellini Allan Panna", a simple classic, and got some raviolli dish that wasn't even close. When I called the restaurant they tried to tell me it was Tortellini. Seriously its an Italian restaurant! If they can't tell the difference they should close. Terrible.
Extremely overpriced for what you get. $9 for a can of luke warm coke? No wonder they do not advertise prices in the drink menu. Only visit if you want the experience of being ripped off in an Italian restaurant without having to travel to Italy.
