Il Bacaro reviews
42Food was remarkable. Sommelier incredible, producing the most sensational Italian wine I've experienced.
Absolutely sublime, per usual. The quality of the food is outstanding and the service is impeccable. Italian fine dining at its best. Thank you.
The food was amazing with the John Dory as a main really good. The cheesecake desert, as recommended by the waiter, the best I have had. The experience was fantastic.
Food was excellent. Had the roast pork and it was glorious! The appetizer was good to as well as the salad. Had the cheese cake dessert and it was a another winner! And i don't know what they put in the potatoes but it was some of the best roast potatoes I've ever had.
I can't think of many places I've gone 2 nights in a row, but the cheesecake had a magnetic pull. The perfect combination of texture and taste. This dessert is a journey.
Stylish. The food left you salivating. From the calamari with rocket (one of us at the table, said it was the best calamari they ever had), to the oh, so, delicious mains. The salad with the lamb, finger licking good. That spaghettini with the Moreton Bay bugs, baby, give me more. And that rectangles of pasta with King Brown mushrooms and ricotta were truly lovely. I chose with place, purely on the fact of the photo of the cheese cake. One of the best dining experiences I've ever had, with great company. Thank you. Oh, and the Wild Duck Riesling, smacko.
Most disappointing. We dined there several times 5+ years ago and it was a favourite spot when travelling to Melbourne. Sadly, after our meal there this week, we will never return. The prices of both food and wine were exorbitant. The nettle fusilli with wild garlic and artichoke (portion ridiculously small) was virtually tasteless and contained just a few slivers of artichoke. Service was not stellar (particularly the maitre d') on an evening with many empty tables. We finished our pasta and had dessert elsewhere.
Definitely not recommended in a city with so many wonderful Italian eating options.
From the days I used to visit after it opened, right up to last night over 20 years on, Il Bacaro represents the very best of Italian cuisine and Melbourne city dining. Bravo
World class authentic Italian food. Great atmosphere and staff were very friendly and their service was 10/10. We will be back.
Intimate little restaurant but can be noisy depending on the noise level from other patrons. Food was good, modest portions. Service was very good. Possibly a little expensive.
Extremely poor service. Food, unable to eat, tasteless cold food and service.too costly.
I order a pasta, for my surprise it comes a small portion of a cold, dry and harder spiral pasta in a plate, absolutely nothing add to it.
And in a unprofessional manners the waitress response was, can you see that brown thing, that’s it, and walk away.
Very rude,
Very disappointed, definitely I would never refer this place to anyone.
I had a lovely time dining here and the meals were well presented and very tasty. The venue is extremely cosy and classy. I loved the service and how the staff were very attentive and friendly. Five stars in specially meals presentation. Love it. Thank you.
Superb food presented in a very impressive manner. Lighting was a little dark.however you cannot fault the food or service. Complimenti
Would call it small little italian gem.
The interiors need a bit of refresh but food is just outstanding.
The whole menu is definitely carefully curated and all dishes are awesome.
I got the pasta of the day which was delish
My partner and I had an amazing experience while visiting Melbourne, last week.
The service was on point, the food was just AMAZING. We had oysters (boring you’ll think but they were actually the freshest, best oysters we had for a while served with great sauce) ; risotto and saffron pasta: everything was absolutely fantastic.
The atmosphere is romantic with dim light, cozy but a bit noisy.felt like in Europe again (tables quite close to each other).
We will be back. Thank you chef for bringing back such great Italian memories! Delicious!
Went there after years and the service is still warm and everyone is so cordial. Food was good had vegetarian pasta and risotto. The highlight for mine was the buratta and cheesecake.
Probably the best Italian food of Melbourne, the rabbit ragu pasta is to die for! Our waiter Alejandro made this experience exceptional. Thank you to Marco and his team
This is a very good restaurant. I enjoy very my the food especially the duck and its cosy atmosphere.
Dined at Il Bacaro on Saturday night. The restaurant was quite busy/loud and the tables tightly packed but the atmosphere was nice overall and the wait staff quite attentive. With respect to the food, for entree we shared the calamari special which was delicious - lightly battered and very tender. For main, I had the Tortelli. The presentation of this dish was amazing and it was certainly a flavour profile I'd never had in a pasta dish before - the lemon ricotta was quite forward but eaten together with the ragu it was quite tasty. We also had the spaghettini which was delicious and the Croccante for dessert, of which the apple sorbet was delicious, though I note the unexpected savoury undertone which I think came from the fermented honey. In sum, a pleasant dining experience.
Just a small venue but a human welcome. Great coffee (well, that's what they're there for.). A little side street, plenty of local guys from the surrounding offices. It's worth a try!
