By complete chance, I found iCanMed through an Instagram advertisement and attended their free classes (in person Pre-COVID, now online).

They blew me away from the get go, with this truly being the only UCAT company which focuses on teaching the methods to solve questions to the extent of 100% infallibility and efficiency.

Being an iCanMed student isn't just about learning the best techniques for the UCAT - it's a lifestyle!

While you simply complete each stage of the course with video tutorials and specific, and cleverly designed question banks, Michael and Ashton take every opportunity to engage with you/your cohort via progress classes, discord, emails (literally 24/7), and even a phone calls (on a Sunday afternoon). They ensure that we understand the mistakes made by the average student not just in UCAT practice but as students in general. From procrastination to time management/planning, no stone is left un-turned by the team.

My recommendation would be to invest in the Pro Course, as early as possible. The Pro course includes the whole UCAT course, with Ashton's teaching and mentoring as well as a Medical School Application course and an interview online course. The iCanMed team are very generous with discounts, particularly if you can get a friend/group involved.

The Interview Online course holds top spot for me. Michael, a professional interviewer himself, teaches the course bringing a sense of maturity, thoughtfulness, calm and sensitivity to responses. You finish the course feeling prepared for any question and without it I would not have smashed an interview which secured me not only a Tuckwell scholarship but also a place in Medicine at Australian National University in 2025 (direct pathway).

iCanMed also have the most up to date information about every Medical School in Australia and New Zealand, regularly publishing any changes to medical entry/course etc.

My only critique of Michael and Ashton, is how unfair they've made the medical school entry process.

Over the last few years of the UCAT they've drastically increased the scores required to break the 90th Percentile, produced interview masters (aged just 17/18) and secured any dedicated students medical places at their desired universities around Australia/NZ.iCanMed students have an outrageous advantage over the rest of the field and it's hard to imagine how other students compete.

Regardless of your current ATAR or 'perceived' UCAT ability, if you're determined to become a doctor - iCanMed is the stress-free pathway of achieving that goal.

I owe Michael and Ashton more than money can value - their course is outstanding.

From start to finish, iCanMed delivers a really great and detailed program. The amount of effort they have and do regularly put in is remarkable, and it shows in the outstanding results of the students. I, as a year 12 student couldn’t imagine how I could have coped with all the pressures and uncertainty relating to the direct entry medicine process, and am really thankful for all the support and educational efforts which Michael and Ashton have shown. I strongly believe the ICanMed Interview Pro Course is simply THE best Medicine/Dentistry interview course out there for Australian/New Zealand students. I am aware of what other programmes provide and I can definitely say ICanMed is the far better and more valuable course.
A key difference is that it is taught directly by Michael himself, who is genuinely dedicated to his student's success. He truly has a wealth of knowledge and real-world experience of the entire interview process at the various universities and their individual formats. He knows exactly how medical/dental school interviewers grade your performance and what it is they actually want to see. This is much unlike other courses who may only have tutors who are simply medical students with a side job and have only personally done one or very few interviews.

After receiving interview invites, the interviews were my biggest concern due to its highly competitive and unpredictable nature. It is very different to other types of interviews I had before such as job interviews etc.and I was unsure how to prepare effectively. After attending the free seminar provided at the beginning, I could feel ICanMed offered a much more effective and very unique approach to preparation hence I quickly enrolled for the full course.

The course really provides all the essential tools and strategies to allow you to succeed and approach the questions with a different style of thinking that will give you a significant edge over other candidates regardless of interview style. Preparation is a must, but it is hard to do so without any proper guidance. Preparing by yourself with family/friends is not enough and may to lead you on the wrong path. Michael will set you on the right track from the beginning and really change your style of thinking, approach and preparation techniques.
The key skills and unique strategies taught will allow you to formulate a much more high scoring answer and become a better communicator. Ultimately with practice these skills will enable you to grow your confidence towards MMI or panel style interviews and enable you to approach difficult questions with more ease.
There is also always constant support and Michael will try answer your personal questions as much as possible.

You will not regret enrolling in this course and it is essentially the final piece of the puzzle that will enable you to completely maximise your chance of success of receiving a Medical/Dental school offer in Australia or New Zealand!

Usually with interview training, you’re trained up on manners, tone and body language.iCanMed took a very different approach and got us to reflect on our own attributes. I spent a
lot of time defining traits such as empathy and teamwork for myself and had to think of many
different experiences where I demonstrated these traits. It became more about what you
say, rather than how you say it. These reflections were really deep and allowed me to
develop more mature responses because I could later show my understanding of each trait
in my responses. The famous ‘burger model’ then gave me a clever way to structure my
responses, so that the interviewers could logically pick out the content in what I was saying.
We’re never told our interview scores, but I had quite a mediocre ATAR and UCAT score
and still got offers from Monash and UNSW, so something must have gone well in my
interviews. Overall, the ICM course allowed me to be much more confident in what I had to
say because the content I had come up with through the course was all authentic and
personal.

The iCanMed team was incredibly supportive and responsive with any questions or concerns I had. Ashton and Michael were always there to offer personalised advice and feedback which made my overall UCAT preparation and improvement a hundred times easier. I also think the overall course structure is incredibly easy to follow and understand. Overall the best part of ICM for me was how it helped me put everything into perspective and made me confident in applying critical skills that I gained through completing the course, this was especially true for the Interview course which taught me how to treat every question as an opportunity. When it comes to UCAT preparation, a lot of people fall into the trap of believing that you can't prepare for the aptitude test. I believe that you definitely CAN prepare for the UCAT, and that iCanMed has created the perfect course to help students like me improve from mid 50th to high 90+ percentiles. ICanMed was amazing in supporting me with my Year 12 journey and really helped me get over the line with my UCAT and interview. The course itself iss designed in a super simple and easy to understand manner and worked really well with how I like to study. Any questions I had would be quickly cleared up. This was honestly a waste of time and money. I bought this preparation course for the UCAT and i followed all there steps and so called tips. My UCAT score was very bad and wasnt able to get an offers or even have a score that was competitive. I also had to pay for medify on top of this course because they didnt give enough practice questions. Overall wasnt worth the money and would definitely not recommend it.

From the beginning of year 10 I heard how important it was to study for the UMAT. I went with another preparation company at that time and I came away from the experience not improving that much. By the end of year 11 the UCAT was announced as the new med entrance exam. At the time, there were no Australian companies who knew any more about the UCAT than I did, which was just ridiculous that they were already charging money for something that was brand new. After extensive research, iCanMed was the final UCAT prep company that I ended at and I stand by my decision that if I were in the same position again, I would still go with iCanMed.
