Hopetoun Tea Rooms reviews
36This lovely store is a wonderful way to spend a morning. I love relaxing with tea and scones. The queue is often very long in peak times though.
We visited today, and unfortunately, both our coffees were bitter, and tasted like they had been made with skim milk. Even after adding extra milk, the taste was still unpleasant. The raspberry sponge was fresh.
I hope everything’s alright with Hopetoun Tearooms, I heard about the recent dispute with Block Arcade. It’s our family’s favourite place, mum and dad would fly 16 hours from the US for those cakes. Looking forward to reopening soon! You have the world’s best pavlova!
This place is a Melbourne institution. There is almost always a long queue of people waiting to get in, so be sure to allow some extra time and peruse the selection of tasty-looking cakes displayed in the window.
Hopetoun offers an array of "Australian" teas like "Gumbi Gumbi Earl Grey". I tried the "Wattleseed Breakfast" which was very good.
I recommend the freshly made scones with jam and cream.
Busy little place with an amazing selection of cakes. We lined up, so missed the opportunity to browse the window before being seated (an organised person on the table next to us had taken a photo to order by!). We left our cake selection up to our lovely host and we were very happy with the selection. The cake of the day was exceptional and presented beautifully. Lovely tea selection or a coffee if you'd prefer. Not much room to move in the space, but it seems to work! Will have to come back to try the high tea option.
A large selection of interesting and delicious teas and desserts, worthy of five stars. We had a strawberry oolong tea and a peach ginger black tea along with strawberry pistachio cheesecake and a swiss roll. The teas and cheesecake were especially good.
However, it is a small place with a lot of staff, which makes it feel crowded, and a portion of the prep area is exposed to the customer seating area, which makes the room quite loud and takes away from the experience.
Amusing step back in time. You either need to get there early or late because there are long queues. Closes at 5pm. Perfect cakes and beverage choices.
Not only amazing cakes.it's a good place to have lunch in, full of healthy choices and really nice teas! That's probably why it is always full! But also the staff is very friendly and caring!
Cakes taste amazing here, food is ok but the spaces is terribe.so small, so loud and no spaces to move around, a place to check out not ideal place for afternoon teas and chit chat
Was expecting big things from the reputation and delicious looking cakes in the window. The tea room needs a refurb, otherwise a nice experience and food very tasty. Had the high tea - staff friendly
So pretty, the food was great, amazing coffee too! Staff were so helpful, and we loved the whole experience! The vanilla milkshakes are super great too!
Everytime we visit this is the place that is a must, the cakes taste as good as they look. The range of tea is fantastic, the staff are wonderful and very helpful if you have ant special dietary requirements
Today was my second take away purchase from this place. I can't remember what I bought last time but I liked it enough to be back but today purchase I'm not sure about. I bought 3 cakes and the first is disappointing. The cream on this strawberry sponge cake has split. Being a pastry chef myself I know this cake is a combination of diplomat and Chantilly cream. In this case the cream was not mixed together well hence the grainy look and cream not being smooth.
Had Tropical Chicken Salad followed by Caribbean coconut crumble cake. The salad was the absolute standout dish and delicious. Could really taste the mango.
More than worth the 20mins queueing.
We stood in the queue for 15 mins before we could be seated, which is expected during lunch time. It's busy and loud inside but very pretty. Make sure to go empty stomach as cakes can be quite big on it's own. Most of the cakes are $10 plus tea. They also serve lunch.
