Hopetoun Tea Rooms reviews
36Was referred to this tea room, because of their great coffee. But with all the choices of tea, me partner and I decided on some tea and some food. The scones were delicious and the jam and cream were so fresh. The staff were very knowledgeable about the tea options and nothing was too much trouble. Highly recommended their new venue just off Burke St.
So terribly disappointed with my experience. I was looking forward to a special treat and my husband and I had the worst carrot cake we have ever had. It was so synthetic, terrible texture and taste. I raised it with them, they apologised but offered no alternative. Really poor show. Naturally I won't be going back.
Had the Devonshire tea for two, it was lovely. The atmosphere is so quiet and relaxing away from the hustle and bustle outside. Awesome little Cafe where they make everything by hand and there is a window where you can watch all the goodies being made. The homemade raspberry jam for the scones was so delicious and packed full of flavour. The coffee was really good and they have every tea imaginable with a tea expert to discuss your every want, not to mention it all gets served on a beautiful tray with matching cups and plates. Yummy cakes and sweet treats would definitely go back and recommend for everyone with a sweet tooth.
I'm pregnant. I just ordered to take it away, and the waitress was so kind and helped me choose a good option letting me know which dessert was safe for pregnancy
A disappointing experience. There is so much potential with the history of the tearooms. The staff have no service skills and things are clunked around. The cake was served with a large fork not a cake fork.
There are so many tables crammed in that it’s not pleasant to be in.
It would be far better to recognise the history with well trained staff, who are carefully groomed and tidy rather than slap dash. Use trays, cake forks and research the art of taking tea in these times and you will honour the history.
At the moment with the awful service and lack of charm it’s just an old tearoom with a nice cake window. Take a photo of the window and give it a miss.
Just an exquisite area to dine. Staff could’ve been a bit more warmth in service. A pleasure to have delicious food in a Time Capsule.
Exquisite Parisian-style tea shop, located in the heart of Melbourne. The cakes are divine! Good selection of teas. A lovely place.
Amazing ambience! And really good service from staff especially "Reena". She was very polite, enthusiastic and friendly. The historic interior gives a delightful touch to the experience.
I got a takeaway of 2 cakes; I didn't realised until I was home and opened the box and found that my order was wrong; I don't know how they can get things so wrong on such a quiet day, they will never cope if things get back to normal; really very disappointed with the quality of the cheesecake too which tastes like an overly sweet slice of gelatine. If I want cakes that look great in a window but taste rubbish I would go to Ackland street but now we have the same in the city. Like a lot of so called iconic venues, this one is trading on its reputation, time to move on.
Hopetoun is a must visit every time we visit Melbourne. I’m so sad it’s still not open for this visit but can’t wait for it to be reopened!
Unfortunately Hopetoun Tea Room's deliciousness that appears in the window doesn't translate to the tasting.
While the surroundings are lovely and the front window is simply divine I have to say my disappointment with the scones, cream and jam were a let down.
Someone needs to teach the pastry chef how to make a fluffy scone that melts in your mouth. HTT scones were awful. They were not fresh and resembled Little Rock cakes rather than scones, and the jam tasted as if it came out of a supermarket jar.
On the day we were there the Barista was in training. Hire someone experienced who knows how to handle a crowd.
I've been going to HTT for years, but now our love affair is over and I shan't be going back.
Very rude staff, and discriminative behaviour.
Worst experience in Melbourne.
For such fancy place in heart of Melbourne, their customers service is a minus 10
-10/10
Nice ambience and love the interior design that makes you feel classy. Everything here just look lovely. Enjoyed the dining experience here.
The perfect pav at Hopetoun Tea Rooms is complemented with a fine selection of organic teas. The alleys & arcades that characterise Melbourne are well worth the wander, especially when you can pause at an oasis like this.
I was fortunate to get a seat here in one of the iconic high tea place in town without a long waiting. The tea selection indeed is incredible. The flavour, the perfect temperature and the scent, has also perfectly blended with the sweet desserts i had which is tiramisu and fig chocolate cake. Due to its fame, there usually be lots of people queue to get a seat, and since its tables are considered small in size, bringing children and babies wouldn't be as comfortable to enjoy the high tea experience.
From the entrance I feel welcomed to the place, I tried the carrot cake and some tea. The cake was fresh and fluffy. The staff are friendly and nice especially the lady who meet me in the entrance. The atmosphere there is cosy and makes u feel as u are in victorian home style. I enjoyed my experience, and If I could give u more than 5 stars, i will.
(2016) Melbourne's most iconic tea room with a grand selection of cakes, and a gluttonous pleasure for anyone with a sweet tooth.
With some dumb luck, we arrived here to find no queue, only a bunch of people transfixed on the front window display.
Can't blame them, the well lit cake display is a well conceived master piece.
We ordered a bunch of cakes and tea, going through a hard selection process.
I'd recommend the Royal Chocolate Mousse, a multi-layering of Chocolate Syrup, Mousse, Crunchy Biscuit and thin White Chocolate base. A divinely rich and smooth treat indeed.
The whole experience at Hopetoun has been charmingly delectable and I'd still highly recommend a visit.
(2021) New location, missing the iconic display window.
This place is a Melbourne Institution. Sad to see the location change but thank God the place is staying at another location. The tarts, the cakes, the tea. It’s simply the best.
The passionfruit tart! Unreal
All the food in general was top class.
Our waiter Karl was very attentive and provided me and my girlfriend with great customer service!
Second visit. It’s always a pleasant spot to start a day. And just in time for strawberry seaosn Great selections of cakes and tart. “Where the tea is, there is hope. ”
