Hitoshi Sushi reviews
52 I was excited to find a Japanese restaurant close by as we were in Ringwood for house inspections and missed lunch. Went to Hitoshi Sushi and ordered 2 types of ramen. Mine was chashu ramen. Chashu looked different but tasted great. Sadly the ramen broth was not what I expected and my first thought was “this is Chinese soup”; and don’t get me started on the broccoli in the bowl! Ahhh … I am sorry but i do not recommend this place to those who seek good Japanese food. If you are happy to eat Soup noodles, just take it for what it is. Same with the spicy hot ramen, not Japanese taste.
Service was good: polite and courteous.
For myself: will not return there for Japanese food.
These bento’s are tasty. Great décor and a place to dine in and forget about the outside world. So, lets break it down…
Atmosphere: ****
Very neat, clean and somewhat intimate feeling when you dine in, as it is not a large place. The décor is very nice and almost takes you away from the hustle outside. The only drawback I could see is that if you are a sitting at the back, the tables are very close together so sometimes it feels like you're joining a random group for lunch. Well Done.
Customer Service: ****
Super quick to take your order and they will bring it to your table when ready.
The order only took about 8 minutes to prepare and was hot & ready to eat.
The service representative was friendly and courteous, hoping the I enjoy the lunch. Nice touch, great job.
Food (why we are here) : ****
Order: Bento Box J $19.90 (Inflation is killing us atm)
I have ordered this a few times and while this is certainly my favourite, it does sway between perfectly cooked chicken pieces to overcooked and dry. However, when it is perfect, it is just that. The teriyaki and honey glaze do hit spot and it is a large serving – you could probably split this between two for a light lunch and you would be satisfied.
Overall: ****
It’s a great place with a few short comings but overall, I keep coming back here occasionally for the Bento’s and Sushi Rolls. Both are above average, and you won’t leave hungry or disappointed.
Thank you, Hitoshi Sushi.
Amazingly delicious. We ordered one of the ramen dishes and the fried rice. Both smelled and tasted fantastic. Friendly staff, clean seating area. Definitely a hidden gem.
Have always had super fresh and really tasty sushi from Hitoshi Sushi. The rolls are really generously sized compared to other places.
It’s my go to place to get Sushi in the eastern suburbs
I have bought 2x "signature" bento boxes, twice.
The first time, there were ingredients that should probably have not been selected. I for one would cut out the manky brown bits of avocado, rather than serve them, right?
On our second try, two bento boxes we received were both beautiful, delicious, tasted fresh, and well presented.
The balance of delicious to non-delicious fillers (the fish: rice ratio) is also pretty good.
I think we'll be back many more times.
Benton box M, first salmon wasn't cooked through properly however when i called to let them know, they gave me a whole new box. They couldve just apologised or just replaced the salmon part of it, but they gave me everything again! Great service!
Besides offering fresh sushi, they have a cool few things from Japan that you can buy for your own kitchen.
Absolutely delicious sushi rolls! Way better flavour than chain store sushi. Not the cheapest in town but I think it is definitely worth the value for fresh ingredients and the extra care that goes into the process
Lovely family owned Japanese restaurant and takeaway sushi. Very fresh and delicious sashimi and sushi. Love the big variety of bento boxes to choose from. My favourite is the tempura, sashimi and unagi rice box. Friendly staff and fast service!
They also sell some Japanese grocery!
The rice in the sushi rolls looks like just jasmine rice (instead of sushi rice) and tasted like leftover rice. Price is a little high for the quality
We used to order here every week, but the prices have just gone up and up and up in such rapid succession. This is unfortunately no longer a viable sushi joint for my friends and myself. It's easy enough to find decent sushi now, but I definitely miss what Hitoshi Sushi once was.
I've been eating here 3 or 4 times a year year for about 6 years now. Not a regular, but still, someone who supports the business.
As I sit here, the couple at the table in front of me speak the same native language as the business staff. We are the only people in the dining room.
Someone came up to their table, cooked and served the food. Different staff at different times. They confirmed I had checked in (Covid) so they know I'm here. They just haven't checked in with.
I don't remember this place not being table service, but even still, someone should have asked if I was OK or knew how to order.
The food had never been that great, it was just easy to get to. It won't be hard to find somewhere different. L
Sushi is perfect every time, can’t rate this place highly enough. Have tried various other sushi places in the area and none come close to Hitoshi.
This is the best sushi shop in melbourne and i always have such a good experience there. The staff are always friendly and theres a nice little seating area if you choose to sit in. 5 out of 5
Went there for dinner last night. Great bento boxes, LOTS of take away flying out the door, good fresh turnover. We’ve been visiting this place for like 15 years and it is always exactly the same quality. Good prices too. Owners are nice and friendly too. Support local businesses!
Ordered Bento Box via UberEats, the chicken tasted a bit bitter and the fruit is not fresh either…
I’ve been going to Hitoshi for the last 10 years and by far the fattest, best tasting sushi! At one point I was eating it 4-5 times a week! Staff are so nice too! Love Hitoshi
Despite their sushi rolls looking not as tight and "perfect" like the other competitors, the reason is because they are very generous with their ingredients. Salmon sushi roll always has big slices of fresh salmon, big pieces of teriyaki chicken and crunchy outside too. This place would have to be the best for what you pay for. If you're looking for variety then expect to pay more at the other stores located in shopping centres etc.
Luckily Hitoshi Sushi is in my local area. I have been a regular if not a part of the furniture for 10 yeras or so since they opened. In that time they have been consistany delicious, fresh and the seving portions are generous. Its a realy cozy enviroment to sit and eat and chill inside, and I love the outside table area. Extremely fresh and healthy.
Best sushi I’ve had anywhere but it’s a little up there in price and the staff seem a little angry sometimes.also, extra 20c for a plastic bag seems like a money grab considering they’re small and not of recycled materials.
