Hector's Seafoods reviews
50So shocked with the size of burgers we had from this shop! It was so massive it almost as big as my face. Price was so cheap and it tasted delicious. Worth visiting to local shop for your burgers or fish and chips craving down in Rye.
We were order 195 on 5/4/21. We ordered 2 Blue packs with blue Grenedier
The only word I can use to describe the fish was YUCK. The fish wad definitely not fresh and had obviously been frozen. All 5 of us that ate the fish stated that it was dry and unpalatable. We ended up throwing most of the fish out. With the price of a piece of fish from the fish shop the very least I expect is for the fish to be fresh. I eat blue Grenedier all the time at home and it is always moist and tasty. The texture of the fish changes when it is frozen and for those of us that like fish it is very obvious. Potato cakes were nice and the fish had nice batter. Chips were ordinary
Some of the heartiest fish and chips I've ever had. Got the family pack. $48 will get you 4 of everything. Big pieces of flake, a chicken nugget, panko crumbed calamari rings, a dim sim and the chunkiest potato filled potato cake that will keep you full till your next meal.
Would have given 5 stars if they gave some lemon wedges and a 1.8% surcharge for using card.
Best scalop from a fish and chip place I ever had, all the seafood are quite moist wrapped tasty batter.
The worst fish & chips shop I have ever tried! No taste, potato cakes were thick only batter.fish was grilled with no taste add some fricken salt on it.it needs renovation makes you sick just walking in Service was shocking! It doesn’t even deserve a 1 star don’t go there
The only thing i enjoyed was the calamari rings, the rest including a flake was pretty average, i expected more from a fish and chip shop right on the coast.
Grew up in Tootgarook/Rye and seen Hector's go from OK to Great to Average to Call the Ambos then back to Great. Was even around when the Original owner himself "Hector" was caught Dumpster diving in Woolworths bin out the back scrounging for their discarded Potatoes. Anyway I believe he'd at least washed his hands. Today's effort from them ie: Butterfish, Seafood Sticks and Dimmies was very nice. The batter was crisp and crunchy and not so thin as you could read a newspaper through it. Don't know what number owner their on now but they should do OK. And to all the people who whinge and whine about the occasional long wait, go down to one of the others places where these no Ques. "Think About it"
Well Done Owners!
Hectors used to be fantastic. As at middle January 2021, they are the worse fish and chips I've had anywhere. Horrible chips, not crispy, filled with oil, burgers were dry, and seafood sticks were awful. I reckon their change of ownership (assumption), has led to this being somewhere I will never go again. Something cannot of gone so far downhill without a change of cooking skills (lack thereof), poor experience and loss of good management, in my opinion.
The hamburgers were beautiful but the wait time was ridiculous. 2 hours would have gone somewhere else if we had of known
Best Hamburgers in Rye.but don't order one for delivery on menulog.wet & sloppy by the time it's delivered.
Shocker. Not fresh fish, completely over cooked. Insipid flavourless chips, still raw potato cakes. And an indicated 35 minute wait that took 70 minutes.
Food was great, took a little while to receive our order but love their flake and Scallops, prices are pretty good, recommend it
Hands down the best fish and chips in Rye. Do not bother with any others. Nice and fresh, always busy AF which is annoying, but there is a reason!
Don't go to Rye. Worst. City. Ever. There are absolutely no toilets available for anyone and no retailers will let you use theirs. Very unfriendly place.
The place has no plates for you to use, no cups and barely any tables. You'll have to clean the few tables they have on your own before using it. It adds to the "charm" of the city.
Consistently high standard of thick juicy fkake cooked in a non oily batter makes this the return to shop in Rye.nice chips and potato cakes too.fast covid safe service.
Below average food even when served on an off peak lunchtime in Winter. Unable to work as a team to serve fish n chips and a burger resulting in cold food. Fish was poorly filleted, and was unable to eat both portions. Either the oil for deep frying was very old, the batter not fresh or the oil not heated up enough. Will not be returning.
Fresh, delicious fish n chips. Perfectly cooked. Super busy even in winter (We went on a long weekend). Call ahead to place your order!
Best fish and chips and has been for decades. Seems to have changed owners over the years but quality and service are still great. Can't go wrong here.
Best Flake & Chips I've had in Years.
Stopped in with my family visiting from the USA and they also agreed
best Flake they had ever had.
Nice crispy batter and the scallops were huge compared to Melbourne fish and chips shops. Definitely one to try if you are down at Rye.
