I wouldn’t even give them 1 star, so beyond rude to me on the phone about temp work. Learn some customer service skills and how to be polite.

I have applied, emailed and called different Hays offices to ask for assistance in finding a job. They always say "we'll call you" and never do. No one responds to your emails as well. You question whether they're doing their jobs for the sake of working or they should be in another career! 3 attempts with contacting a consultant and absolutely NO replies. Pathetic.

Does Hays even look at applicants applying on Seek? The residential construction admin roles I've applied for over 4 weeks have ended up not even being viewed. I have almost 10 years experience & a diploma in construction. Absolute waste of time applying if you see jobs advertised by Hays on Seek.

1: They expect you to have a mobile phone on during the day 9 - 5 even whilst you are at work which is unethical. Double standards much?

2: They expect you to call Melbourne from Adelaide for them to tell you that you didn't even make the shortlist; something that could have easily been sorted out via email I'm pretty sure with a stock standarded reply or even no reply (which I prefer).

3; Much like all the other agencies 5 years in the call centre industry alongside TAFE qualifications to match & a typing speed of 70wpm is not enough experience for them (even though at Telstra in 1999 I ended up getting a job in a call centre WITHOUT ANY CALL CENTRE EXPERIENCE - maybe 4 years as a radio presenter had something to do with it but oh well).

4: They asked for my age which is illegal & want copies of my drivers license - just to find out who is younger no doubt. So I stood no chance even when I got in for the interview. We need to regulate recruitment & make it less painful. I now work in another industry although years have passed since this horrible experience & I'm still looking for inbound call centre work.

They seem to have lots of recruiter turnover and they are not great if you want a personal touch with your job search. They are big though so they seem to get the big contracts and seem to be able to get you something at any given time, if you have the skills and the availability. I would use them again if I was job searching.

DEAR HAYS - WE ARE NOT CATTLE! They called me unsolicited and asked me to come in for an interview which I did. I took the trouble to go all the way into the city and was kept waiting, then I was told I would receive advice if I was moving forward by phone in 24 hours. Of course no call came and he did not respond to my phone message nor did he have the courtesy to email. Surely a cut and paste email rejection costs nothing and should be done as a professional courtesy as this is your business. Employers -if you want poorly written ads and un-professional people to represent you sign up with Hays.
