Grampians Eco YHA reviews
51 Honestly, I definitely wouldn't recommend this hostel. My room was on the ground floor with no window, but a door facing outside the hostel. The anti-mosquito net at the door is broken. Since there is no window, we still needed to open the back door with the broken anti- mosquito net to let in fresh air when we slept. Safety became our crucial concern. Anyone or wild animals can easily walk straight into the room. It was really unacceptable. Not to mention the blocked sinks in the washroom and some clogged toilets.
My friends' room was on the first floor with a big window without an anti- mosquito net. Again, they didn't have a choice but to open the window and let in the insects as their companions.
This hostel has great communal spaces including outdoor seating and a BBQ area, which combined with the location (a short stroll from the main strip and the oval to spot grazing kangaroos) made it a excellent place to stay in Halls Gap. The room and bathrooms were pretty standard for a hostel but perfectly adequate for our needs. Overall would highly recommend for those looking for good value accommodation in the Grampians.
Wonderful little hostel in the heart of the grampains, just close enough to everything while not being too close to town so still very peaceful.
Be sure to ask BJ for hiking recommendations, he didn't let me down once!
Was a great stay can't recommend enough:)
Great hostel!
It is a very cleaned place, facilities are very good and comfy.
There is a herb garden and also chickens. Sets in a beautiful place in Halls Gap. Not to mention the beautiful Australian native garden - very well looked after. I had a great experience, highly recommend and would def come back.
Friendly welcome, rules set out
Kitchen well equipped
Great location, 10 min walk to shops/restaurants in Halls Gap
Best YHA we've stayed at, the kitchen is huge and well equipped, there are 2 super nice lounges to chill, the bathrooms are nice and clean, beds are comfy and the owners are super nice. It's also a very conveniently located to just start hiking directly without needing a car. Also, there are some cute emus and kangaroos roaming around in the late afternoon.
Clean kitchen which is very impressive and so nice for a hostel! Decent beds, nice lounge areas and overall a comfy feel, highly recommend to travellers.
Really great place. Nice, friendly, staff and visitors. Very clean environment. Ideal place for accommodation within the Grampians. +
Beautiful and eco friendly place in Jalss gap. Staff and position are amazing. Perfect to explore Grampians region. Leave only footprints
Grampians YHA is fantastic! Friendly and helpful staff! Awesome facilities, all in one of the best places on Earth!
Lovely hostel with great facilities. Bernhard and Tara were very helpful when we were delayed and arrived after check in hours, thank you!
My favourite YHA I’ve stayed at so far. Tara and BJ (the owners) are lovely and I felt a sense of the community in Halls Gap. The rooms and the common areas are outstanding and the place feels very homely. Affordable accomodation great for hikers.
This place lives upto the YHA's name. It's at a very beautiful location, great amenities, very clean! Would be great if the hosts were a bit chatty and put up smiles once in a while to all guests. The only drawback is their check in is at 4pm and the check out is the usual 10am. 2pm check in will work wonders for the guests.
We were looking for a room after 7pm for 1 night. Website said it had vacancies so we thought to book in person. Reception was closed so we called. Was greeted with a unfriendly member of staff initially turning us away but then he reluctantly changed his mind after someone murmuring in the background. Turns out they were on the other side of the shutters talking which we thought was a bit strange. We understand it's difficult to accommodate when they're lacking staff and was going to just turn away. The only way we can book is online and there were lots of hoops and photos needed to be sent etc before we could get a room. Was too difficult and his tone was making us feel very unwelcome so we left. The place does have great facilities, friendly volunteers and it's well kept. Just a shame about coming at a time where they weren't happy to have us.
It was clean and the people running were really nice, which is all you can really ask from a hostel. Kujo was also adorable.
Affordable accommodations in Halls Gap for two adults and a toddler. No family rooms available but was able to book out a 3 bunk room for us. They had lots of little bits; shampoo, razor, soap and towels for $2. The managers were efficient and keen to look after their guests.
Made a great stop on the Grampian peaks Trail. One of the few places we could find for a single night. The were happy to hold our food drop on either end of our trip so we were able to pick up our resupply and leave our extras behind for pickup after our hike.
The room was quiet despite being near the kitchen and common areas as well as the stairs. Didn’t hear anything with the door open.
The hostel exceeded all of our expectations, it was clean, spacious and had thoughtful touches for guests. It's location was central to all of the best walks in the Grampians. The hosts, BJ, Tara and Kujo (their gorgeous dog) were so friendly and welcoming which made our stay even better. Thank you for your hospitality.
I really enjoyed my stay and I am looking forward to going back. BJ and Tara went out of their way to make sure I enjoyed my stay and gave me great advice on how to enjoy the Grampians. A great hostel to meet new people or to have a quiet stay
Loved our stay. Kelly, Gary and Lucy were wonderful hosts. The room was comfortable and the facilities were great. Our daughter especially loved seeing the local Roos.:) We decided to head out early so we missed meeting the chickens - next time! Thanks for having us.
Really friendly and helpful owner!
Everything is great here, big kitchen fully furnished, nice to stay on the sofa with the fire
Perfectly clean, free range eggs
