Golf Fitting Hub - Albert Park Golf Course reviews
55 The golf course views are amazing, really a treat a couple of the holes. The staff in the Pro Shop were friendly on arrival and helpful. This is why this review isn't 1 star.
It was busy when we played on a Saturday which is to be expected. Our groups golf game was poor given the fact we're all just learning. One of the pro's came out and politely asked if we could move along as there were a few groups behind us. We called through the group behind and then were waiting for them as they were waiting for the group in front of them.
This is when the review of the course starts to go downhill. It's a Saturday morning, we expected it to be busy. A person in a green cart raced past us, and speed off, we thought to overtake us. 5 minutes later he races up to us and tells us to hurry up in an aggressive fashion. Given we'd paid $120 collectively, being told to "hurry up", really isn't ideal.
We continued for the rest of the round, waiting for the group in front of us, then the group behind having to wait.
At the 18th hole, we putted out, congratulated each other a good game despite the scorecard saying differently. Then the same guy races up to the green. I decided I'd let him know that I was going report him to the clubhouse.
Rather than apologising which would have been the end of it, he doubled down. He claimed "Who are you going to report me too, I'm with the GM", then he said something along the lines of "You were holding hands like children". I informed him that I didn't care who he was, I was going to report him to the clubhouse. He didn't like this one bit. He then tried to intimidate me by saying "What time was your tee off time? ". I assume trying to flex that he could get us banned from a public course for not playing our game his way. When I challenged him on his behaviour and the way he was talking to me, he used the classic line of "That's who I am". The whole time I didn't swear at him despite him growing increasingly aggressive. He then said "If you don't like it F OFF TO YARRA BEND".
Ultimately I decided to capture the tail end of the conversation on video to ensure he couldn't claim he was perfectly civil.
Course ok
But
We hired clubs and most were left handers
Between the 3 of us we completed the round
When we suggested to the pro shop they discount one of the sets we were told to write an email and they would see what they could do next time
Pretty poor
My Favorite Golf Course in Melbourne. Started my Golf journey from here, had my lessons here and play 2 rounds a week here.
Nice wide open course, with some challenging holes, great views of the city and the lake. The course is playable all year round, drains off excess water in the winter while watered and maintained in the summer.
The staff are friendly and a bit cheeky at times, but will always try to accommodate during busy times.
Get on down there and enjoy.
It’s a simple course but it’s priced accordingly and is still a fun track. Nicely set aside Albert Park lake on the Front 9. It’s a good choice if you don’t want to put a hole in your wallet but be aware it can get busy and slow.
A very great golf course with stunning views of nature and the city. Often this course would be my go-to place for some enjoyable golf during the weekends
They do not have premium golf club set at all i guess. T-up time was around 1pm but we start 30 mintues later. There is no cart even we booked.
Was surprised with no electric golf cart.its engine oil, so very noisy and smelling.
Also, there is a lot of walker! Please, it is golf course.u gonna die when u were hit by a golf ball.why nobody restrict them?
A very unforgettable course. Fairways not in great shape and bunkers rock hard. Might suit someone starting out playing golf. Older guy working in pro shop has a chip on his shoulder. Asked him a couple of simple questions and he seemed annoyed. $30 plus $6 for parking is an expensive 9 holes. Best avoid if possible. Plenty of other options in Melbourne
We played here in the last day of 2020. I would say its a decent experience considering some of the holes were not in a good shape. But for an experience to play within a well known Albert park it deserve a good experience for us.
What a shocking experience. They advertise a casual environment. During my round this extended to multiple groups of 6 and a group of 5, lots of people sharing bags of clubs, heaps of spectating kids under 10 just messing around, groups of teenagers swearing at the top of their voices and filming themselves rather than playing.got onto the course later than the booking because the cart we booked wasn’t there and only got it eventually after chasing the staff down for it. After getting through only 7 holes in 2 hours I walked off and will never return. Avoid at all costs.
Never have I seen the course in worse condition.
Take some pride in the course.
It used to host a pretty reputable pro-am; these days you probably wouldn't let your sheep graze on it.
The photo you use is years old and is akin to false advertising.
You pay your money (which is a rip off given the above) without mention of you coring/sanding and massacring the greens. Any other course, be it public or private, would make the customer aware before paying, rather than having a sign out of public view on the opposite side of the pro-shop, telling you to watch out for greenkeepers. Do they exist? I am seeking a full refund of money paid. PLAY ELSEWHERE.
For a mini golf course all to ourselves it was awesome. My four year old daughter loved it. Staff are facilities are great. Worth a visit.
I don’t like leaving bad reviews but what is going on at Royal Albert Park Golf Course?
The entrance and pathways to the Pro Shop were a shambles, the buildings and surroundings are run down, nothing opened to get a feed after our round.
Luckily for us the Pro Shop had a pie warmer!
It looks as though the mini golf facility has taken priority over the course itself.
The actual golf course while understandably is a busy public track was in better shape 35 years ago.
The fairways were disappointing along with a few of the tees, the greens were in great shape though.
Three players in our group had never played here and I don’t think we’ll be rushing back to Albert Park Golf Course anytime soon.
Good to see the Kiwi Golf Club is still going.a regular hāngi might be needed if players can’t get a feed after their round.
One of the best Public gold courses in Melbourne, picturesque views of the city and Albert Park Lake, well curated fairways, nice bit of variation in the greens, tricky placed bunkers, wide forgiving fairways, highly recommended golf course.
I’m a golf lover in Melbourne. We played here for first time with our friends and kids. Good public course. This is the first time I’ve played at a golf course next to a city and a lake. Amazing Staff very Friendly and always helpful.
Very Relaxed environment.
Great location, Greens fast. Fairways in decent condition for summer.friendly staff and an awesome experience. I will definitely come back
Never knew there was mini golf here. I took the kids here for a school holiday boredom day and they loved it. The 18 holes are all different and themed. Very well presented and clean thanks for having us!
Really nice public course, quite flat which makes play easier, and a good variety of par 3 and 5 holes
I found this course simple but enjoyable to play. The condition of the fairways is fair to good. The tee boxes and greens are well kept. Excellent location with views of CBD. The pro shop and clubrooms are in fair condition. I noticed they are taking COVID safety seriously and they have a cleaning area for buggies. Service quite good. They were running 5 minutes late with the tee times but once I got out on the course it was moving OK. I will play there again.
Im pretty sure the rates for 18 were $36 pre covid. Currently to play 18 it is $42 (without online price discount). I can appreciate that Covid has had a financial effect on the business however I dont think that increase in green fee is warranted. Especially given that the overall quality of the course has not improved over the course of lockdown. Whilst I do enjoy the course, I dont believe it was ever worth the original $36, let alone what it is now.
One thing to take into consideration is that the course is public property and is frequented by many non golfers who may cause unintentional/intentional harm. However If Im paying $42 dollars, I expect not have to hit off fake turf on hole 17 due to the primary tee having no grass on it. Nor do I expect to have to tee off on the fairway of 14 when the tee box looks like it is in fantastic condition. If the tee boxes require time to grow thats absolutely okay, however the green fees should at least be altered slightly to accommodate for that slight decrease in quality.
Despite this, I will continue to play at the course given its ideal location. With the views of the lake and city, it does make for a nice round of golf. It is just dissapointing when you dont get the quality for which you pay for.
I hadn't played there for years and forgot how enjoyable the location is with Lake and city buildings nearby. A really nice, non challenging course with short par 5's.
