Gold Leaf Chinese Restaurant (Preston) reviews
74Don’t waste your time - me and my party of 7 visited Gold Leaf for an early Christmas lunch. The service was terrible, incredibly rude, during a yum cha service we opted out for menu items, plates were thrown on our table and refused to be removed. We were overcharged … or attempted to be overcharged $300! A total shock we asked to review the receipt and a further THREE re-prints later, we finally got our correct receipt. The servers were making fun of us in their language, giggling and pulling faves. Floors started getting mopped and were incredibly wet with no wet floor signs. A member of our party is heavily pregnant. We asked to have the floors dried or signs up for safety. A table was being rolled along the floor before being plonked up on legs ready for customers. The food was average. Would not recommend, go elsewhere!
A solid restaurant with really good service and it beats any restaurant on high street, I keep coming back because it’s local.
Pretty good yum cha, service is great here and it's usually not over crowded like some other places are, food has always had a good standard too!
Have been going to Gold Leaf for many years. We had booked for yum cha on Christmas Day and I was sooo disappointed. Some of our courses were cold. The service was poor. I will not be going back.
Not much HALAL food, however the seafood was amazing and JIMMY is a super star and a fun guy! Will def be back!
It used to be a good restaurant so I wanted to leave a good review but sorry, I agree with other reviewers. Most of the dishes I ordered were bland, greasy bad oil flavor. 5 unimpressed dishes + pot of tea cost $57. I expect more if they charge this high.
Went on a busy Sunday afternoon around 1pm without any booking and we got seated immediately. To my surprise, this place has reallllly good service (unlike most of the yumcha places). The aunties who push the carts were super friendly and helpful, some of them even joked with us (which was extremely surprising). Apart from the excellent service, the food was great too! All dishes were fresh, steaming hot and portions were great too. My favourites are the siumai, pork dumplings, pork trotter, chee cheong fun and fried salted dumpling! Would definitely come back for their other dishes I can’t wait.
Worst meal ever. Went there for a birthday (someones milestone 18th bday) and got served Peking duck that looked like a pile of ****. Honestly didn’t even know that Peking Duck could ever look like that. The waiter was a complete douche and rude. Asked me to go and ask another waiter about my order. Seriously? Can’t wait til this space gets used for something more worthwhile. This place doesn’t deserve the money that anyone pays.
Felt ripped off. The food was disappointing, the prices were very high. The staff were fine to me though, unlike other posters.
Saturday Yum Cha's ambience is nice & not so noisy compared to Sunday, food is still warm but taste not as good as the last time we were there, still contains lots of MSG though.
The restaurant overall had a buzzing vibe. It's a good place for groups if having Yum Cha due to the variety of plates to choose from, including desserts. There were tables with kids and access via elevator or stairs.
It was very busy, I recommend making a booking. There is parking available at the Preston Market but it is a shi* show, make sure you give yourself time to find a spot.
Two reasons for knocking off stars.
1. Atrocious parking
2. If you're not opened to trying new things you'll find Yum Cha hard to satisfy your tummy. I don't feel "western palates" will enjoy this but that is a massive generalisation on my part.
3. It's loud (which for some people is a negative).
4. No Yum Cha menus on the table so you have to ask what everything is, would be good to have a point of reference.
Overall, if you're into Yum Cha I think you'd like this place. Staff are friendly and the food is quick!
Best yum cha on this side of town! Another hidden gem next to the Preston Market. Fantastic atmosphere, fabulous service & delicious food! I have missed egg custard tarts & ham sui gok (footballs)!
Always good food and friendly staff but extremely hard to hear and understand with their masks on, maybe speaking up and clearly will be a good idea.
I would say 3.5 stars. Despite the luxurious decors, nothing is special here. The food was just okay and pretty much average. The fried rice was the best dish. Pipi with xo sauce was sadly bland.
Food is okay, my friend has sea food allergies, and the ppl give her dumplings with shrimps in it and told her it’s pork only pork… thank god she realise it on time and avoid the hospital ride
Plenty of people enjoying yum cha, about three quarters full. First time that I have tried it. Not my style, are happy with sweet and sour pork and fried rice. One of our group did all the choosing so we got a varied selection of food which is fine. Looking around, everyone seemed to be enjoying their meal.
I wanted to take my friends out to a famous restaurant with high standards and expectations from 'Gold leaf' however we were left very disappointed! The wait for service was long and the wait for the meal was longer, even with a hungry stomach the food was not of standards nor what we would expect. The food use to be amazing back in the days hence why I came back but after this visit it will be the very last. The food was atrocious to say the least. Service was horrendous, thought I walked into 'Karen's diner'. My advice.save yourselves the trouble.
Tried Ordering 4 foods and they had none of them, including one that was on a sign at the front of their store
If I could give zero stars I would! This place has a few horrible staff (appear to be managers and team leader) who had terrible attitudes towards us and were very disrespectful from the very second we entered the restaurant. Whilst placing our order the staff was quite impatient and was not helpful about inquiries as we were ordering a total of 6 dishes, we asked what the portion size is roughly and he remarked with "do you want SMALL OR LARGE? ! " still not indicating the portion size. The food here taste like canned microwave food. When trying to grab the staffs attention, we were blatantly ignored. We couldn't bring ourselves to eating the food and just paid and left. As we were leaving the managers and staff glared us out. Overall do not waste your time and money here however if you like tap water, it's not too shabby.
Thanks 60 dollars per person set.
We got a dry-microwaved duck roll, a middle raw prawns pie, and egg shell in our fried rice.
And when we told to the waiter about the egg shells. We’d been told “eat slowly and carefully. “
Not even apologized about it.
Very great service man.
