It’s really, really bad. The waiter’s attitude when he wore a single earring was very bad. It was like he owed money. It was too expensive. I was outraged.

Fantastic ramen and friendly service. Staying open a little later on a Saturday night would have earned them 5 stars from us.

It’s hard to quantify a perfect experience but I just about had it at Gogyo.

Discontent with some of the other pretender ramen spots in Melbourne *cough* Mensho *cough*, I came to Gogyo a bit forlorn about my experience.

What I had was amazing. The environment was modern Japanese - a sleek interior masked by a clean Japanese cloth. The interior was cool but not cold - perfect as my dining experience was on a 27 degree day.

I sat down and looked intriguingly at the menu - I was hungry, so I went for a chilli shoyu ramen with a side of chashu rice.

The rice came first - mashed bits of chashu mixed with spicy Japanese pickles. The textures worked really well and hit the spot for someone famished - the rice was hot, the chashu was rich and the pickles offered a spicy acidity to the dish.

Then came the bowl of ramen. Topping the ramen was a spicy chicken mince which I was told to mix through, alongside the customary spring onions and chashu slices. The oddity was a bunch of diced tomatoes.

The broth was easy to slurp, and when thoroughly mixed with the mince, made for a perfect heat that was not so spicy it charred the tongue but built with every ladleful of broth I enjoyed. The tomatoes provided a nice acidic relapse from the heat, and the chashu was tender and delicious. The noodles were straight and relatively thin and slightly crinkly, but easy to slurp and delicious combined with the broth.

Gogyo should be very proud of their spicy ramen. It actually provides a kick to spice lovers, unlike most bowls of ramen in Melbourne, and was enjoyable still on such a hot day as was the one I decided to dine. The textures all worked and the flavours played off each other well.

I assume this place is group company of Ippudo. Good things about this place is owned by Japanese so if you wanna eat real Japanese ramen maybe it’s good to be there. Price is between $ 20-30 ish and if you go lunch time I believe they have some kind of deal:) very yummy!

So good! The ramen is delicious, and you can tell the noodles are hand made. The ramen is also full of flavour and super tasty.
The fried chicken and sashimi was also divine.

The service was also amazing, really attentive staff, and always around when needed. Really polite and quick.
The venue is also really nicely presented. Moody and dark, great spot

Really enjoyed the experience, and will definitely go back. Give it a go!

Loved it! My girlfriend took me to dinner at Gogyo today and it was such a pleasant experience that we just had to write down a review!

We had the calamari karaage, sashimi, Modern Tonkatsu and Kogashi miso Ramen. The karaage was so crunchy and delicious, definitely recommend. The sashimi was fresh and beautifully balanced in the sauces. Modern Tonkatsu was so delicious and the Kogashi was a strong umami flavoured to pair with the Tonkatsu.

We also had the sobacha and black sesame ice cream which had a beautiful mochi taste and consistency. So delicious!

The ambience of this place was just so beautiful and the place felt like an authentic Japanese experience.

What really sold our night was when Minny came up to us and wished myself a happy birthday. She ensured that everything was great, got our names and made our experience very personable. It’s the small details that count!

Overall, definitely one of the better Japanese places in Melbourne. Would come again!

On the WEBSITE it clearly states walk-ins are welcome. I arrived at the restaurant at 8pm closing time is 10pm. Kindly asked the staff if it was possible to dine in. Staff walked off for 10 minutes only to come back and and no it's not possible to dine in without booking. Was not asked if I wanted to put my name down in case a spot free upped. Should say BOOKING IS REQUIRED if thats the case.

Good food and lovely atmosphere.

We ordered two of their lunch special which was $35 for a set of: 2 pieces of sashimi, 1 classic ramen (small size), 2 pieces of gyoza, and apple juice and lemonade. And for dessert we ordered matcha, and redbean dessert separately.

The set was good, beautifully presented and the ramen we ordered both was rich and flavourful (we had a shoyu and miso ramen), the broth was a bit salty near the end but good nonetheless.

The gyoza was cooked well crispy and soft, served with a base of light soy sauce.

The sashimi tasted fresh, served with soy sauce, shredded cabbage and tiny dash of wasabi.

The drinks we had apple juice, which was surprisingly from fresh apples, tasted great! And the lemonade was from a class of pre bought lemonade, still quite good.

Now for the best part, the matcha dessert (first option in menu), the matcha jelly was deep and rich full of matcha flavour, paired well with the icecream and some sort of syrup, I would come back just for this, lovely. And the Redbean icecream was okay too but pales in comparison to the matcha, probably don't get this one.

The dishes are on the pricier side, and the wait is quite long for the food to come out so be prepared for that, the ambiance was very nice, you can choose from a bar seating or banquette seating, the room was dark and warm. Customer service was good, they took the time to explain the menu items to us.

Overall, will come back to try other items on the menu, recommended.

Professional staff, delicious food.
Highly recommend the edamame and the tuna tataki, and the special modern tonkotsu (the extra egg is amazing!), but everything else we had was amazing too.
Atmosphere is fantastic IF you get a seat behind the curtains - best to make a booking.

Only turnoff was the tip option on the machine at the end. We don't tip in Australia, and it's particularly off-brand for Japanese.please get rid of it!

Ramen is amazing, but I just made a funny thing between black and white. White one is tissue obviously, buuuuut the black one is to use covering your cloth if you wear in white or light color cloth. Don’t pinch your nose like me. But I just really need it in this cold weather. And maybe we need always ask firstAnyway, maybe the staff can tell customer when you serve this useful stuff to your customer instead that you tell your customer in front of all customers who is sitting in the bar after I used it in wrong way. I just feel a bit ashamed?

I had dinner for 2 here on Saturday night. We ordered the spicy edamame, which were reasonably good. For the ramen, we both chose the chili special. After the mouth numbing chili taste leaves your mouth, the ramen soup tastes like the equivalent of a 75c tin of crushed tomatoes, a far cry from the $30 asking price.
Overall, the dining atmosphere is nice, but the food quality leaves a lot to be desired. I wouldn't recommend eating here for the food quality.

Fantastic restaurant! We come here regularly and love the food and decor! The restaurant interior is perfect with ambient lighting and the option of sitting at the chef's bench or a table. The menu has an extensive range of smaller plates to larger plates and ramens. The ramen is great!

I have a tummy ache from the onion but that's my fault not yours. Good food, friendly staff, cold drinks, great service, nice vibe, very nice vibe.

Black ramen is exemplary. Worth a trip just for that alone. Prices low by Melbourne standards yet the vibe feels classy and expensive

Very special ramen joint. Be sure to get the side dishes, they compliment the ramen really well. Only complaints were that the prices were a bit high, but to be expected for a place like this, and was asked to tip which really shouldn’t be a thing here

I got the Tonkotsu Modern. Honestly such great ramen, it’s obvious that the chefs are experienced. A beautiful restaurant and not over priced for the quality of the meal.

The restaurant has really good vibes. Was slightly disappointed by the food, was expecting a few more ingredients in that bowl!

Ramen was good, but they really needed more vegetarian dishes and vegetables in the meat dishes. A lot of the food options were also fried. So the meal was on the stodgy side.

The care and attention to detail at Gogyo is top class. One of the few restaurants my partner and I go to regularly.

Atmosphere was lively with booth seating but noisy. Japanese curry was bland but my friends (table of 5) loved the Ramen
