Garam Merica Melbourne - Taste of Indonesia reviews
39 Food are delicious. Too bad that it is never enough stock to keep serving until 3pm.
3 out of 5 times we came in especially on the weekend, it sold out by 12.30pm. Good on you to make sales and surviving during these time. But if this is an ongoing problem, people just won’t be bothered anymore. Surely you can see your sales record and the amount of sales you are missing out too.
Service is the worst. You line up for so long only to be greeted by rude staff at the front and to be told that everything is sold out. No eye contact, no apologies.
Should put up sign at the front or ask service staff to let customers know.
Definitely need a better system, major improvements needed.
The place for good old fashioned Indonesian dishes. We were there on a Sunday when they offer the nasi bungkus or banana leaf wrapped rice. Between us we had 6-7 variety of meats, veggies & curries. All delicious And thumbs up for the sambal! Parking is a pain & the seats are limited but the awesome food makes it all worth it.
Definitely the most authentic Indonesian food in Melbourne! I always missed my home country's food and Garam Merica did it so well to satisfy my cravings. Nasi bungkus is the must ordered if you're in here. Choose 2 meats 2 vegetables from the available list and trust me you're gonna be full and satisfied at the end.
My go to restaurant if I miss Indonesian food! Their recent Nasi Uduk with Chicken is so delicious! The coconut rice was perfectly cooked and so aromatic! And it’s not spicy, which suits my taste buds! Es Cendol drink is a must have too.
Best Indonesian traditional food.especially their
- Nasi bungkus
- Nasi goreng kampung
- Mie goreng kampung
- Es Doger (dessert)
they are my favourite foods when dine-in
For anyone that loves nasi bungkus this is by far the best I've had outside of Indonesia- all the meat and veg dishes are perfectly cooked and tasty
Nasi bungkus
tasty & aromatic fried chicken
prawns in chili sambal
eggplant in chili sambal
indonesian spiced egg
aromatic beef rendang
stewed squid in black ink
? Kale in red yellow curry
tempeh in special sauce

: Been wanting to try this famous Nasi Bungkus from @garammericamelbourne for a while but been missing their pre-orders because they sell out so fast! Thanks to @doodel.au for delivering.
️: Really loved the Beef Rendang Daging and Cumi Hitam black ink squid—so yummy! Definitely will have to order again.
Food is good. But the slowest service in the whole universe. Had to wait an hour for one takeaway meal which are all from the hot bar anyway, and then only to be told they have sold out of some of the dishes because they had my ordered wrong, and had served other people who ordered way after me.
If youmre not sure or if something is delayed, why don’t you come and ask to confirm, rather than leaving people waiting for an hour.
Make sure you ask them over and over again because they are all over the place. So slow, despite having so many people working and in the kitchen. I spent an hour watching all of the workers running around like headless chooks, yet still so slow.
Such a bad system. Not worth the wait. Waste of time
Ordered Sop Buntut Bakar, 1 bowl of rice, and Nasi Bungkus for lunch on Sunday. Total 33.50 AUD. This restaurant located right next to Indonesian consulate general in St Kilda, and they do not have surcharge for card payments.
The Sop buntut bakar (Ox tail with soup) was nicely grilled and sweet, the meat was very tender. The taste was authentic. However the soup portion was very small. Comes separately with the rice. For 2 AUD per portion, the rice was also very small, considering their target market is Indonesian, who are well-known for consuming a lot of rice.
The Nasi bungkus (rice wrapped in banana leaves) comes with a generous selection of 4 dishes (2 meat + 2 veg), for 16 AUD. I ordered grilled chicken, beef tendon (kikil), egg balado, and eggplant with green chilli. Overall portion is quite small, although compensated by inclusion of 4 dishes.
The grilled chicken (drumstick) was a little tough, but tastes good, has a nice "char-grilled" taste. The beef tendon was very tender. The egg balado meets expectation. The eggplant was nice but not extraordinary.
Would give 5 star if the rice and soup portions were improved!
Very friendly staff. Very clean, authentic Indonesian cuisine.
My favorite is the nasi gorang.
Parking bit via queens lane or side Steet parking. Weekends free parking.
You will love the atmosphere.
Shout out the locals of the area and office folks.please help local eateries.
Food was alright. Must admit I was expexting better seeing the reviews and ratings? Anyway, not a bad feed.
An absolute gem in the least expected of places. At the base of this office building on a busy highway lies delicious Indonesian home-style cooking. Definitely worth a visit if you happen to be in the area!
One of the best indo restaurant in Melbourne. You'll be surprised how close their food is compared to actual Indo food
Food was really good very tasty, reasonably priced. The only thing I didn’t like was the single use plastic cups for water. Quite a few people were using them. So if you go bring a your own water bottle or hopefully restaurant will change this.
It is not delicious, but OMG delicious! The grilled beef ribs is a must try dish. You're welcome.
A local friend took us here and spoke highly about this place and when we ordered, we were not disappointed! I ordered the ketoprak and my dining friends ordered ayam bakar with the sambei terasi pedas. We also had 3 chilled jasmine teas and it was all so delightful and refreshing! Ingredients were fresh and the sauces were amazing! The device was friendly and quick and the staff are lovely too! Highly recommend this place!
It was our first time to dined here since they moved from Clarendon St, and it was a pleasant experience. We ordered 2 Risoles as snack, the special menu “Lontong Cap Go Meh” and Grilled Ribs with sambal ijo as main, Bubur Ketan Item as dessert. All yummy! If you are looking for a tasty Indonesian food, i highly recommended this place. We’ll be back for more
Ayam gobar with sambal terasi pedas surely is my favorite and also my take away Indonesia fruit salad is the bomb
Good variety of Indonesian foods. They have a big portion of delicious rendang, a sumptuous soto betawi with a lot of tripes, a nice gado-gado and a very refreshing cendol. Sorry, I don't post any photos. Forgot to take the pictures because the foods were so making me hungry.
