Buyers beware. The quality of food is not to a high standard. The "fresh" fish we had was warm. The avo delight and panko prawn rolls did not taste good at all. The whole experience and food left my girlfriend and I feeling very unwell for the rest of the night.

When we entered the restaurant we were sat down and not talked to for 20 minutes, without menus, leaving us wondering if we were even going to be served.
For what we paid I could not justify going back again.

Really enjoyed every bit of it.
I don't think I would be able to eat sushi anywhere else

I love this place, good quality Sushi for a decent all you can eat price. The staff are lovely and I always enjoy myself when I am here.

Pretty disappointed with the service, staff wouldn't even look at our direction when we wanted to order.it didnt seem too busy either so i'm not too sure why they were actively ignoring our table.

There were times when the wait staff would see us and just walk to a different table or just stand near the kitchen.

Food was decent but probably not worth the bad service.

Authentic Japanese in South Yarra @gaijinmelbourne. They have an extensive a la carte menu, or you can go for all-you-can-eat sushi (make sure you book in advance to avoid disappointment as they do get very busy)

Featured:
GAIJIN PLATTER
Mix and match 2 of your favourite sushi rolls half-served
9 assorted sashimi
Seaweed salad
Side-portion of Gaijin

Nice food and interesting combination of dishes.
The cheesy gyoza was a very good one, also the Melbournian roll.

Right up front let me admit that my review is negatively coloured by the seating - at my age and level of physical decrepitness I cannot abide backless stools for more than a few minutes. 2 days down the track and my back is still aching.
This said, it's an OK diner with generally good food. We (4) had a wide range off the menu and it was all good. I did find the "Japanese Curry" sushi not to my liking. Thumbs up for all the other dishes.
Service was a bit patchy and ambience non-existent. Cost was about $100 pp.

Introducing Gaijin a Japanese fusion restaurant in South Yarra with their new brunch session and menu Located right next to Prahan market this restaurant offers a good variety of Asian fusion dishes to choose from. Sisig nori crisps was our favourite, crispy pork belly pieces coated in mayo with a zesty kick from the lime! Loved the flavours of the Hainanese chicken pasta, however chicken was a tad over cooked? Was my first time trying the ube pandesal and let me tell you, you definitely need to share this as it was super dense Also finished off the meal with the affogato with durian ice-cream, and surprisingly it was super tasty and went really well with the coffee! Durian flavour and smell was very subtle.

what we ate:
salmon tartare
dragon vs.tiger roll

salmon tartare was the highlight of the night! Crunchy and so flavorful? And the sashimi was so freshhh

Another reason is to not follow Instagram promotions. I was disappointed, the meals were too salty, wasabi not spicy. Could be more cheaper and tasty in Sushi Hub.

Food here was fantastic! Loved the Mix and Match option as you can create your own sushi platters from their list of different sushi rolls. They have over 20 different sushi roll flavours to choose from and I really liked the one with cream cheese in it

We've booked all-you-can-eat for our table. The start of the service was amazing! Really 5 star level in everything! The photo from the 1st round is attached.it really tasted great!
Then they got so busy that they kept forgetting our orders, we had to wait 40 mins at some point. When our last round of sushi finally arrived all we could taste was rice vinegar in all 5 sets of rolls, like someone spilt a full bottle on it and it was mainly rice, they didn't put much filling in it.

It was our 2nd time at this place and it was quite disappointing this year.

I was really looking forward to my dinner at your restaurant, but my experience was completely ruined when I saw a mouse running across the floor. It was a very distressing and unpleasant experience, and it completely ruined my appetite.

When I brought this issue to the attention of your staff, I was disappointed with their response. They seemed unconcerned and did not take any immediate action to address the situation which they told me that it was the first time that a mouse had been seen in the restaurant. Meanwhile I have never encountered a mouse or any other pest during my visits. This incident not only ruined my dining experience, but it also raises serious concerns about the overall cleanliness and safety of your establishment.

I would appreciate it if you could provide me with more information about the steps that you are taking to prevent future occurrences and ensure that your customers do not encounter any unsanitary conditions while dining at your restaurant.

Gaijin Japanese Fusion is a contemporary Japanese restaurant that offers a refreshing and unique menu!

We loved their creative sushi rolls, including the Melbournian roll and Rainbow roll. From the other meals and dishes available, I loved the most the Baked Dynamite, the Nasu Dengaku and Gyozas. Pleasantly surprised about the exceptional quality!

The service at the restaurant is superb and the staff are accommodating and accommodating to make changes for dietary restrictions that my partner had. The experience at Gaijin Japanese Fusion is just a bliss and we will be back! Recommend!

Dinner all you can eat was very low quality. All of the rolls essentially tasted the same.

Dynamite side dish was just a mess of sauce with bits of crab stick.

Opted in for the ayce sashimi for extra $10pp but informed that kingfish, one of the three options were no longer available.

Disappointing, will not be back again.

I recently had a great dinner at Gaijin Japanese Fusion. We ordered to share the sushi & sashimi combo, cheesy gyoza and salmon tartare.

The sushi & sashimi combo features assorted sushi, mixed nigiri and a side potion of salmon salad and is served with miso soup. Everything on the plate was so fresh and I thought it was great value for $35.

I was surprised how well the cheese worked with the seafood gyoza. Somehow the combination works and I found the cheesy gyoza to be quite delicious. If you love cheese I recommend giving it a try.

The salmon tartare was another lovely dish. The minced salmon and Nori tempura crisp worked together beautifully and had a nice contrast in textures.

Overall I had an enjoyable evening at Gaijin Japanese Fusion. The restaurant was busy and had a great atmosphere, the menu is extensive with plenty of options including all you can eat, and the food was fresh and delicious. I rate it out of 5. Thanks very much for having me.

Food was good, but lacked distinction. Even though I ordered many different sushi flavors, they all tasted more or less the same. Lots of them had cheese and/or some variety of mayo incorporated, only differing by the type of meat. The more you eat, the more you get sick of it, so maybe go easy on the sushi if you're not a big sauce person.

The food quality was awful, the prices were much too high for what you got. The sushi made me and my partner feel sick afterwards, you can get better sushi from virtually any other place that’s cheaper yet alone $45 per person. Staff were polite but apart from that I wouldn’t recommend this place to anybody I know.

Gaijin is a little gem of a restaurant! Located within close proximity of the train station, it is convenient to get to and has a delightfully large range of sushi rolls to pick from! They also offer ALL YOU CAN EAT on Weekdays @ $55 per head. Good value and you can order to your hearts content! If you’re craving Japanese and particularly if you’re in the area, Gaijin hits the spot The dishes off their ala carte menu were also delicious - you have to get their takoyaki! Comes with a generous sprinkle of torched cheese and seared salmon chunks. Also the volcano salad and tataki are really yummy

Y’all I found one of the best Japanese restaurants in south Yarra - @gaijinmelbourne!

Me and my friends enjoyed every dish (except the teriyaki Beef sushi which was a bit dry and tasteless).

I ordered the $36 sushi platter which serves 16 pieces of sushi (4 types can be selected).

The crispy salmon, melbournian roll and cheese sensation roll was amazing! The miso soup took me by surprise and it was quite authentic.

Definitely would return to try the infamous Tasmanian rolls and other dishes. The sashimi and Chicken Karaage was also well loved by my friends who ordered them. My friend said she will definitely return for the Karaage.
